...Fabulous Fall Weather...

You cannot ask for better weather in Alabama in November. With brilliant
blue skies, mild temperatures and light winds, today is a picture perfect
day.

You can expect similar conditions tomorrow, and then things will slowly go
downhill until midweek.

FOR THE REST OF YOUR WEEKEND: After an afternoon with highs in the lower
70s, skies will remain clear overnight. With a dry airmass in place,
temperatures will cool nicely in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. Tomorrow
should be a carbon copy of today, with more sunshine and similar
temperatures. It is more of the same for tomorrow night.

FIRST HALF OF THE WEEK: Monday will be another nice day, with lots of
sunshine and mild readings again. Clouds will begin to show on the scene by
then, however, and will be a sign of things to come. Indications are that
clouds will thicken by Tuesday morning. Moisture levels will jump quickly
on Tuesday as the high pressure cell to our east retreats. Showers will
likely break out by Tuesday night along a warm front that will be moving
northward from the
Gulf.

BIG STORM SYSTEM: By Wednesday, a powerful cold front will be knocking on
our door. A line of showers and storms will enter the state on Thursday and
quickly pass through the area. The storms could be strong, although the
parameters for a severe weather outbreak don't appear to be there. There
will be a sharp change to colder behind the front, with falling temperatures
by afternoon. If it had been the good old days, there might have been a
cold wave warning. Fortunately, things should dry out quickly and the
prospect of any icy weather looks remote now. But readings will likely stay
in the 30s all day Friday with a biting north wind.

TROPICS: Trying to nail those final nails in the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane
Season a little too soon. An area of disturbed weather and low pressure is
over the extreme southern Caribbean north of Panama. This disturbance is
forecast to move west northwest into Nicaragua. Some slow development is
possible.

ON THIS DATE IN 1962: Weather maps on the afternoon of November 25th
depicted high pressure over New England with a low pressure system off the
South Atlantic Coast of the United States. A blocking anticyclone over the
eastern Atlantic locked the two systems in place. The high began to
strengthen, while the low simultaneously began to deepen. The strong
pressure gradient between the two pressure systems resulted in very strong
winds along the East Coast. As a result, gale warning flags flew over
Charleston, SC for an amazing nine days between November 26th and December
4th. Beach erosion and coastal flooding resulted during the extended period
of strong onshore winds. Beaches in the Jacksonville, Florida area were
severely eroded. Tides reached as high as 7.5 feet above normal at
Charleston.

...Fabulous November Weather Continues...

If golf courses could not make money yesterday with a holiday Friday and the
most fantastic November weather in memory, they need to close. I got the
notion that nearly every golfer in the state took to the links yesterday
afternoon. The shoppers were rewarded too, with the blue skies and warm
temperatures in the lower 70s. It will be more of the same today and
Sunday, and nearly as nice on Monday and Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure
continues building into Alabama from the east.

THE ALABAMA WEATHER STORY: How about those diurnal temperature ranges
yesterday? The spread between morning lows and afternoon highs averaged
some 35-40 degrees, about as big as you will see here in Alabama. Expect
more of the same today with highs rising quickly from the upper 30s to the
lower 70s. The next two days will look like carbon copies of today, with
lows around 40 and highs in the 70s under sunny skies.

CHANGES AHEAD: A powerful cold front will approach Alabama late in the
week. Our best guess for timing at this time is that it will pass during
the day on Thursday. We will see gradually increasing clouds late on
Tuesday, with mostly cloudy conditions on Wednesday with a chance of
showers. Showers and thunderstorms will become likely by late Wednesday
night into Thursday morning. There is a chance for severe weather with the
system, although it does not look likely. Then there could be a period of
wintry precipitation late on Thursday into Friday morning, most likely
coming as a little freezing rain or drizzle. Friday will be a miserable day
with temperatures near freezing, that freezing rain and a strong northwest
wind.

ON THIS DATE IN 1963: The teletypes of the Associated Press fell silent
for the first time in history as the nation observed a moment of silence for
fallen President John F. Kennedy.

1926 THANKSGIVING DAY TORNADO OUTBREAK: A major Thanksgiving Day outbreak
started on the afternoon of the 25th across Arkansas and Missouri. The
deadliest twister of the day was an F4 that killed 23 people as it moved
across Faulkner and Cleburne Counties in Arkansas, including 17 in Heber
Springs. Every structure in Big Piney, MO was damaged or destroyed by a
late afternoon F3. Seven people died near Haynesville, LA in an evening F2
tornado. Four plantations in Morehouse Parish, LA were destroyed just
before midnight by an F3 tornado that killed twelve people, including four
of fifteen members of one family. The outbreak came to a close just before
dawn in Fayette and Marion Counties in Alabama. The final tornado rated as
an F3 and passed just northwest of Winfield where a family of four all
sitting down to breakfast was killed. When all was said and done, a total
of 21 significant tornadoes (F2 or higher,) 9 strong (F3) and two violent
(F4) tornadoes were recorded. At least 91 people died.

HOW CAN YOU BEAT THIS WEATHER? Back in mid summer when the stubborn
old thermometer was going well into the 90s every day with the
humidity off the charts, we daydreamed and longed for this type
weather. We are getting a good dose of autumn in Alabama. It could not
be more timely for what is supposed to be the biggest shopping day of
the year. Not for me. I'm hiding out at home. Look for mostly sunshine
through Monday. Clouds will increase by Tuesday night leading to some
showers by Wednesday and increasing in number next Wednesday night. We
look for a major change in weather by next Thursday (we cannot
absolutely pinpoint the day at this time). We think the strongest cold
front so far this season will be moving quickly through the state next
Thursday and bringing us our coldest temperatures so far this season
by late next week. Stay tuned. The latest weather models point to a
1054 millibar high over Colorado next Thursday morning. This is
unusually strong for so late in the season. Translation: lots of very
cold air.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: UAB will be in Orlando to play the University of
Central Florida for a Saturday morning 11:00 a.m. kickoff. It should
be fair and mild with warmest temperatures during the game around 75.

OUR WONDERFUL WORLD OF WEATHER: Lots of interesting stuff going
on…it was 47 below zero this morning at Faro in the Yukon of NW Canada
and 45 below at Mayo with a barometric pressure approaching 31 inches.
It was 72 below at the Summit in Greenland. That is the coldest
temperature I have seen in all of North America so far this season. It
was 35 below at Rabbit Kettle in the Northwest Territory of Canada.
That name intrigues me, but I don't know why it was named that. You
can depart Rabbit Kettle and canoe 230 miles on the Nahanni River
through some of the deepest canyons in Canada. Not now, of course,
because the river is frozen solid…there is 38 inches of snow on the
ground at Pelican, Alaska and 18 inches at Juneau…it was 42 below this
morning at Ft. Yukon and Chandalar Lake, Alaska…coldest in the lower
48 this morning was 7 above zero at Ely, Nevada.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Little Miss Molly sure had an exciting
Thanksgiving. There were so many people on the walking track,
including people visiting in the community, that she was on high alert
all day. She considers anyone that she doesn't recognize as an
intruder into her territory. I don't think she got much sleep
yesterday and late last night she curled up right next to me ready for
a long night of sleep. She is still sleepy today. I sat on the couch
for about 30 minutes this morning and she got in my lap and cuddled as
close to my chest as possible. She was like one of those warm beanbags
you put in the microwave to keep your feet warm at night. Naturally,
she won a lot of points with me. Life goes on.....

...Mild Afternoons For The Weekend...

Look for another big warm-up across Alabama today following a frosty
morning. Temperatures will climb nearly 40 degrees today, with most
communities reaching the low 70s, about 10 degrees above normal for
November 24. The air remains very dry and we will forecast maximum
available sunshine again today for Alabama and most of the adjacent
states. Great weather for the big shopping frenzy.

We don't see much change through the rest of the Thanksgiving holiday
weekend with sunny mild days and clear chilly nights through Sunday.
However, as we enjoy picture perfect weather, our eyes continue to be
focused on bitterly cold air that covers much of Alaska and the
Northwest Territory of Canada. Northway, Alaska dropped to 42 degrees
below zero yesterday morning, and that cold air will be dropping
southward during the next week as the upper air winds begin to change.
This means some changes in our weather next week.

NEXT RAIN EVENT: For the moment, it looks like our next significant
rain event will come late Wednesday, Wednesday night, and Thursday of
next week as the leading edge of that really cold air slowly drifts
into the state. A few strong storms are possible in advance of the
front, but the latest computer model data doesn't suggest a classic
setup for severe weather here in Alabama.

Following the rain and storms, a change to colder weather will begin
Thursday night and Friday. There is considerable conflict in various
computer models concerning depth of the cold air that reaches us, and
the amount of lingering moisture in the cold air. If the cold air is
allowed to plow in here without much modification, we might be in the
30s all day Friday (December 1) with some risk of lingering snow
flurries. On the other hand, if the upper trough bypasses us to the
north, temperatures won't be that cold. For now all we can do is stay
tuned... we should have much more clarity on the situation by Monday.

FIVE YEARS AGO TODAY: A total of 34 tornadoes touched down in Alabama,
killing four people and injuring many more. That is the greatest
number of tornadoes in one day in state history; read more on this
historic weather event on the ABC 33/40 Weather Blog.

ACROSS THE FRUITED PLAIN: Wet and windy were the words yesterday for
the upper Atlantic coast. The rain total in New York City was .71" as
the mercury hovered in the mid 40s all day. Not the best day for the
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. To the north, Providence, RI was
soaked with 2.43".

Our friends in Alaska are very cold for late November. Yesterday in
Juneau, 18 inches of snow fell on the city; their high during the day
was only 15 degrees. In Fairbanks, the high was 10 below zero; 18
degrees below the normal high of 8 degrees above zero. In Northway,
following their low of -42 the high yesterday was -24. A warming trend
continued across the southern states yesterday; the high in Dallas was
77 degrees. Hottest place in the nation was Laredo, TX with 84.

MORE DRY WEATHER AT LEAST THROUGH MONDAY: It is not this unusual to
have nice periods of clear weather in Alabama in November. That is
what we are expecting into the early part of next week. Our next rain
event may possibly hold off until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
Meanwhile, look for mostly sunshine through the weekend. Afternoons
will be very pleasant, but nights will still be chilly. This
afternoon, a high pressure ridge extended all the way from the NW Gulf
of Mexico through West Tennessee into the Great Lakes. That will drift
over us tonight. With clear skies and no wind and low dew points, we
have lowered our low temperature for tonight from the mid 30s to
around 32. Again tonight some of the colder valleys will have upper
20s.

Low temperatures last night included 26 at Black Creek in Etowah
County with heavy frost. That location, off the DeSoto Parkway NE of
Gadsden, has had 18 freezes and 21 frosts so far this season. Other
lows this morning included 27 in Munford, 28 in Anniston and Pinson,
30 in Alabaster and Tuscaloosa, 31 in Concord/Hueytown and 32 at
Birmingham Airport.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: That intense low pressure area that produced
very high winds along the mid-Atlantic coast yesterday, was centered
off the Virginia and Maryland coast this afternoon. The heaviest rain
has now spread northward from New York City to Boston and Portland.
Onshore winds were gusting to near 40 mph this afternoon on the
Massachusetts coast…still plenty of very cold weather in the Arctic.
It was 45 below zero this morning at Mayo in the Yukon Territory. It
was 40 below at Northway, Alaska and 56 below at the Summit,
Greenland…coldest in the lower 48 this morning was 12 at Alamosa,
Colorado and the warmest yesterday 86 at Oregon Pipe Cactus National
Monument in Arizona…don't forget—it is springtime in the Southern
Hemisphere and the temperature today was around 110 at Gascoyne
Junction in West Australia…bitter cold air was pouring south into the
Northern U.S. at this time in 1950. It would plunge the Birmingham
temperature to 5 above zero on November 25. That record low stands out
like a sore thumb from all other record lows in November…still getting
wet weather in the Pacific NW. Amazingly, in one 5-day period not long
ago, 31.10 inches of rain fell at June Lake, Washington.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: No family members present to celebrate
Thanksgiving with us this year for the first time in a long, long
time. Work schedules and other conflicts would not permit, but Little
Miss Molly is here and she can make any day a lot brighter. Among the
many things we are thankful for is having Little Miss Molly for 4
years. We love her very much. Even when we are gone for a few hours
shopping, we want to hurry back and give her a treat and play with
her. I don't know what I would do if for some reason I would have to
be gone for several weeks. I know I probably over dramatize my love
for that little girl, but it is genuine. Life goes on and we are
definitely thankful for Molly....

...Happy Thanksgiving...

You can't ask for better weather on this Thanksgiving Day. Blue sky,
sunshine, low humidity, a crisp refreshing morning, and a delightfully mild
afternoon. Most communities will see a high today somewhere between 65 and
70 degrees, about five degrees above normal for November 23. Quite a
pleasant change from Monday of this week when we had a hard time getting out
of the 30s during the day. The dry weather will continue through the holiday
weekend, with highs mostly in the low 70s tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. We
might see a few scattered high clouds over the weekend, but our weather
should remain dry through Monday of next week.

LONG RANGE: Our next significant storm system will blow in here during the
mid to late part of next week. Considering the warmth we expect early next
week and the magnitude of the upper trough, there might be some risk of
strong to severe storms across Alabama on Wednesday or Thursday (November
29-30), but there is simply no way to resolve details of the system this far
in advance. We also have to wonder if some really cold air gets involved on
the back side of this storm system; bitter cold air covers much of western
Canada and Alaska right now, and might be poised to push south at some point
next week. We will have a much better grasp on this situation in a few days.

RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham's rain total for 2006 is now 53.41", giving us a
surplus of 5.16". Down in Mobile, they report only 45.38" since the first of
the
year; that is 14.76" below normal.

BITTERLY COLD: The coldest place in the U.S. yesterday was Northway, Alaska
with a low of 43 degrees below zero. The high yesterday afternoon in that
community was 21 degrees below zero. We wonder what they think of "global
warming". According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the population of Northway
is 95.

TRAVEL WEATHER: Much of the nation will be dry today, but rain continues on
the Pacific Northwest coast in places like Seattle and Portland, and also
along the Atlantic coast from Boston south to the Outer Banks of North
Carolina. Many communities along the Atlantic coast reported winds well over
tropical storm force yesterday. In fact, winds were getting close to
hurricane force at Elizabeth City, North Carolina where the wind peaked at
69 mph.

Twelve miles south of Oregon Inlet, N.C., highway 12 has been closed due to
ocean overwash. On the ocean side of highway 12, water was waist deep in
many
areas yesterday morning.

BEING THANKFUL: Most of us are blessed beyond our imagination. We tend to
focus on the short term problems and frustrations of life, but today we
really should take a few minutes and be thankful for who we are and what we
have. God has blessed me with a great family, a remarkable extended family
circle through my church, and the best job in the world. And, I am thankful
for you; the people who read our forecasts daily. I hope you have a very
happy Thanksgiving Day.

TOTAL SUNSHINE FOR OUR THANKSGIVING: And you can bet that I am
humbly thankful for much more than I deserve and we should all be
thankful for the good old USA. Our weather for Thanksgiving could not
be any nicer. After an early morning chill, the afternoon temperatures
should warm well into the 60s. The wind will also be lighter tomorrow
than it has been in several days.

We are in an extended period of very pleasant weather. Some of the
newer models tend to delay our next storm system to about the middle
of next week. From now through Sunday, we will have mostly sunshine
each day. Starting Friday our highs should be above 70. It was cold
across the state again this morning, although not as cold as yesterday
morning. It dropped to 28 at Shelby County Airport and in Pinson, but
most lows were between 30 and 35.

THANKSGIVING NATIONALLY: A big percentage of the country will have
dry weather. The main exception will be the Pacific Northwest and the
Mid-Atlantic States NE through New England. In New York City for the
big parade, there should be lots of rain tomorrow with north winds
gusting to 35 mph.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: I have been in weather work for what seems like
300 years, but the current storm system affecting the Mid Atlantic
States is one of the stronger non-tropical storms I can remember. The
intense low was centered just off the North Carolina coast and will be
moving NE. Earlier today, a weather buoy 74 land miles east of
Virginia Beach reported 24-foot waves and gusts to 60 mph. Elizabeth
City, North Carolina was getting buckets of rain with north winds
gusting to 69 mph…bitter cold air continues to build up over parts of
Alaska, Northern Canada and over the North Pole into Siberia. It was
42 below zero this morning at Chandalar Lake, Alaska. It was 53 below
at the summit in Greenland will be near 60 below tonight. Over the
North Pole in Siberia, it was 45 below zero at Ojmjakon. Naturally,
when it gets that bitter cold so early in the season we turn one of
our eyeballs northward and leave it there. There are indications that
the strongest high pressure system so far this season will be
bulging its way down into the northern U.S. by Monday. Stay tuned.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: It was extremely upset. A lone bird
perched in the top of the sassafras tree was screaming at the top of
its voice. No other birds around, so I don't know what made it so
upset. I was afraid the bird might get a stroke. Only thing I could
figure out was that he or she was trying to give Little Miss Molly a
stern warning that she was trespassing. I have news for that bird.
Molly considers all of my tiny corner of the world as her private
Texas ranch. She knows where every tree and plant is and every house
where people live that love her. We greeted several old crows at the
north end of the track. They actually paused for a rest on the grounds
of the Old Crow Motel and we got a good look at them. Life goes on....

...No Rain For Awhile...

TRAVEL WEATHER: Many people will be packing up and hitting the roads and
airports today, considered by many in the travel industry to be the busiest
travel day of the year. The good news is that the weather, generally
speaking, is very quiet across a large percentage of the nation today. Most
major airports will not have weather related delays, and most larger cities
will enjoy a good supply of sunshine with seasonal temperatures for late
November. There are two main exceptions; wet and windy weather will continue
today along the southern half of the Atlantic coast from the southern tip of
Maryland southward to Charleston, Savannah, and Jacksonville. Heavy rain is
possible across parts of the Carolinas as a coastal storm moves only slowly
to the north. The other region with wet weather is the Pacific Northwest,
where rain will continue to fall in cities like Seattle and Portland.

THE ALABAMA STORY: Looks like we will have a string of sunny days ahead with
a gradual warming trend. We will approach the 60 degree mark this afternoon
with maximum sunshine, and tomorrow we are expecting a high in the mid to
upper 60s. Seventy degree readings are quite possible by Friday afternoon as
the warm-up continues. The dry weather will continue on Saturday and Sunday
with very comfortable daytime temperatures.

MAJOR STORM NEXT WEEK?: The longer range computer model data suggests the
potential for a major storm system toward the middle part of next week, with
some potential for strong to severe storms somewhere across the Deep South
by Tuesday night and Wednesday. Then, a sharp change to much colder weather
is likely by the end of the week.

THUNDERSNOW: Snowflakes fell in Charleston, South Carolina yesterday; the
earliest observed snow flakes on record for that city on the Atlantic coast.
Thunder and lightning was even observed with the snow; there was no
accumulation since surface temperatures remained well above freezing. Some
light snow was also reported at Savannah, Georgia. A cold core upper air low
was responsible for the unsettled, wintry weather along the south Atlantic
coast yesterday.

SOAKED: That same storm system produced these rain totals yesterday: 3.76"
at Cape Hatteras, NC, 1.76" at Wilmington, NC, 1.41" at Charleston, SC, and
1.14" at Columbia, SC

BIG TIME COLD: The mercury dropped to 40 degrees below zero yesterday
morning at Chandalar Lake, Alaska. In Bettles, Alaska, the high yesterday
was 23 below zero, following a low of 31 below zero. Bitterly cold air will
continue to cover much of Alaska and the Northwest Territories of Canada
over the next several days. The forecast high today for Fairbanks is 20
degrees below zero.

...Another Cool November Day...

Temperatures across Alabama will remain well below normal again today as a
cool northerly flow continues across the state. On the maps, a deep upper
air low has formed near Jacksonville, Florida, and will drift slowly
northward through mid-week. This system will bring wet and windy weather to
the Carolinas and parts of eastern Georgia, but the rain shield from the
storm should remain well to the east of Alabama. In fact, most of the state
should enjoy bright sunshine today with very dry air in place. Any clouds
should be over the far eastern section of the state, near the Georgia
border. The high today will be in the mid 50s, in the 52 to 56 degree range.

BIG TRAVEL DAY: Tomorrow is the busiest travel day of the year according to
those who know about such things, and generally speaking the weather looks
nice and quiet for much of the nation. Most of the rain tomorrow will be out
west, along the Pacific Northwest coast, where some communities have endured
their wettest November on record. There will also be some rain over the
Carolinas due to the system just off the Atlantic coast. But, a majority of
the nation will be rain-free, and no major airport delays are anticipated.
Here in Alabama, we expect lots of sunshine tomorrow with a high around 60
degrees.

A great day for a drive over the river and through the woods to
grandmother's house for Thanksgiving.

TURKEY DAY: Thursday looks delightful. Lots of sunshine, and the warming
trend continues. We should rise well into the 60s during the day, and some
parts of West Alabama might even flirt with 70 degrees after a chilly start
in the upper 30s.

At this point it looks like our weather will remain dry Friday, and over the
upcoming weekend. A good chance we reach the low 70s on Friday, but
temperatures will cool off a bit by Saturday and Sunday.

NEXT HIGH IMPACT EVENT: For now it looks like our next major storm system is
about 9 to 10 days away, right at the end of November and the beginning of
December. Impossible to nail down details this far in advance, but some
computer models have hinted that some heavy rain might be possible, followed
by a sharp change to colder weather. Maybe some risk of a changeover to snow
before it all ends. But, that is nothing more than voodoo right now since
there isn't much skill in a specific weather forecast beyond seven days. All
we can do for now is say "stay tuned".

HODGEPODGE: A tornado hit the Camp Schwab U.S. military base in Okinawa this
past weekend, injuring three marines, including one who was rushed to a
hospital. The storm damaged 19 cars parked at the base, overturning four in
a parking lot. Bitter cold weather continues over much of Alaska; the
coldest spot yesterday was Bettles with 32 degrees below zero. Hottest place
in the nation yesterday was Woodland Hills, CA with a toasty 94 degrees.

FIRST SNOW FLURRIES OF THE SEASON: We got one report this
afternoon of some fairly heavy snow showers around Ashland in Clay
County. Lighter snow flurries have been reported at a number of
locations over NE and East Alabama. This is not a hint that you should
head to the grocery store, because no travel problems will occur at
all. Instead, it will be clearing tonight with a freeze all the way
down to the coast. Even in Mobile and Baldwin County, temperatures are
expected to fall into the upper 20s tonight.

The big high pressure system bulging into the area is rather strong
for so early in the season. This is going to give us dry weather for
the rest of the week with some cold nights. However, moderating
temperatures can be expected starting tomorrow afternoon and even
warmer toward the end of the week. We should see near 70 Thursday and
Friday with mostly sunshine.

Here in Central Alabama, the low temperature for tonight will be
rather tricky. The wind may not totally down before daybreak. If there
is still a 5 to 7 mph wind where you live tomorrow morning, your low
may be 30 or 31. We are using 28 for an average low, which will
pertain mostly to communities that have a near calm wind before
daybreak.

THANKSGIVING DAY: Could not ask for nicer weather w the afternoon
high close to 70, lighter winds and almost total sunshine. That was
not the case in 1950 when we were getting ready around Thanksgiving
for a bitter cold wave that would carry the Birmingham temperature
down to 5 above zero. We will post a special BLOG story about that
major plunge in temperatures by tomorrow.

THE WORLD OF WEATHER: It has been 7-1/2 years since the last F5
tornado in the USA. It occurred in the Oklahoma City area on May 3,
1999. That is the longest stretch without an F5 since the turn of the
century. Check out a story by Bill Murray on the BLOG that goes into
more detail…42 inches of snow was on the ground this morning at
Pelican, Alaska…Juneau has received 44 inches so far this season—over
6 times the normal amount…32 below zero was the coldest in Alaska this
morning, at Bettles…hottest yesterday was 96 at Woodland ill,
California…on Sunday Los Angeles had 92—which was a record…two inches
of snow this morning on Mt. Le Conte in the Great Smoky Mountains and
also on Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina…there was 1 inch on the
ground at Beech Mountain, Mt. Mitchell, and Banner Elk, North
Carolina.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I am afraid I have been around Little
Miss Molly too long, or at least writing about her too much. For the
first time ever, I dreamed about her last night. In my dream, I was
delivering a sermon in a very large church that did not look familiar,
except that Dennis Altizer, the music director at our church, was
leading the singing. I am not a minister, but midway through whatever
I was doing, Little Miss Molly came bouncing into the church, hopped
up on the pews and was dancing across everyone's lap wagging her tail.
I asked Dennis to sing an extra song while I chased her down. Almost
never caught her. She was running under the pews and hiding. She
completely disrupted the church services. I spanked her with a song
book and there were murmurs of disapproval from the congregation for
the spanking. Life goes on....

In a typical system, if your phone line is cut or fails,
then you have no communication to the outside world.

Since we do not use phone lines, we can still dispatch the
fire or police when the emergency requires. Despite cut
phone lines, storms or over worked cell phones, we still
get the signal through.

We do not offer the free systems like some of the other
security companies. But you do not want to trust in free
equipment to protect the people who are close to you.

Call Prestige Alarm today to get the best alarm for your
home. Ask for Eddie or Amie. 205.956.4811

                ...Another Chilly Day...

Get ready for another raw day, but take heart.  A warming trend is on the way for later in the week, which will make for a wonderful Thanksgiving Day weather wise.

CHILLY NIGHTS AHEAD:   And a chilly day today, to boot.  Most areas will get off to a cloudy start, but sunshine should break through fairly quickly this morning.  A very amplified upper level pattern is bringing a strong northerly flow into the state, and it will be quite windy today.  Winds will average 10-20 mph with occasional gusts over 25 mph.  With cold air advecting into the area, temperatures will struggle to make 50 degrees.  Throw in the stiff northerly breezes and it will be a fairly uncomfortable day.  Tonight, under clear skies, temperatures will drop below freezing.  It looks like northerly winds will stay up just a bit overnight, probably keeping most locations out of the middle 20s.

The northerly flow will continue tomorrow, but with increased sunshine, readings will rise into the middle 50s.  The good news is that the winds will relax a bit.  Sunny skies will continue on Wednesday and on Thanksgiving day. Overnight readings will still be on the chilly side, but daytime highs will gradually warm to near 60 on Wednesday and threaten 70 on Thursday.

WEEKEND SNEAK PEEK:  It looks like a dry cold front will approach the area on Friday, passing through during the overnight hours.  It will be accompanied by an increase in cloudiness, but no showers.  The weekend should be dry with mainly seasonable temperatures.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL PLANNER:  A coastal low will develop off the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia by Tuesday.  It will move slowly north, bringing rain, wind and coastal flooding to the area from Jacksonville to the Outer Banks and then into the Mid-Atlantic states by Thanksgiving.  The good news is:  no cold air in involved.  A parade of storm systems will move into the Pacific Northwest and across the northern Plains, bringing rain and some snow.  But all in
all, no major storm systems are expected during the heavy travel days ahead.

KAMIKAZE:  On this date in 1274 A.D., a great invading Mongol armada, led by Kublai Khan was rolling across the islands of Japan when it met a foe it could not conquer:  a typhoon.  The great storm wrecked the fleet's ships and drowned 13,000 men.  Khan would mount an even more impressive invasion in the summer of 1281 and history was repeated as a second typhoon smashed the fleet.  The Japanese termed the storms kamikaze or "divine wind."  Khan abandoned his designs on Japan.

MOTORCYCLE RIDE--DECEMBER 2nd
BENEFITING THE ELDRIDGE CHILDREN'S HOME

Come join us in a fantastic motorcycle ride with a great cause!

It's the 4th Annual Eldridge Children's Home Benefit Ride. The home, located
in Eldridge just off Hwy 78 and State Hwy 13 in Northwest Alabama, has
been in operation since 1948. It houses 30 children in all age groups; they are
educated in public schools, attend local churches and are raised within the
campus in homes. The home accepts no state or federal money and operates
on donations from area churches and individuals.

Motorcycle riders get together for a ride to benefit this home. Riders are able
to fulfill a special "Christmas Wish List" from each child and help operate this
home all year long. Riders are encouraged to bring gift cards from any retail
outlet or give a donation via check, made payable to Eldridge Children's Home.
This home has a 501(c)3 status, so donations are tax deductible.

Weather will not be a factor--just be there for the children.
The first Saturday in December, all roads lead to Eldridge.
