BMW owners, why go anywhere else?
==================================================================

FINALLY, THE STORMS WILL LEAVE: But, not right away. For the remainder of
this afternoon, we will still have to deal with a line of strong to severe
thunderstorms moving west to east near an approaching cold front. Weather
conditions favor hail with some of these storms, but of course a severe
thunderstorm can also produce wind damage. Lightning is always dangerous.

These storms will not reach the Birmingham area until mid to late afternoon
and out of the eastern counties later. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was
posted for about the northern two-thirds of Alabama until 6:00 p.m., except
extreme east.

After the storms move away, it will turn sharply cooler. A low pressure area
passing NW of us this afternoon will be over West Virginia by Saturday
morning. This will be a strong low and the wind circulation around it will
gust as high as 30 mph across North and Central Alabama Saturday. We could
still have some leftover sprinkles Saturday, but it will be clearing late.

It will be cold Saturday night and early Sunday morning with a low of 36.
The traditionally colder valleys could drop as low as 33 or 34.

Sunday is shaping up for a model day to describe nice weather. After the
early morning chill, it should reach the upper 60s during the afternoon.
Monday will be even better with a high of 73. Tuesday should be dry, but
more showers and storms by next Wednesday.

MAJOR FLASH FLOODING: That's the only proper description of what went on
near the Alabama coast last night and early today. Nearly a foot of rain
fell in some communities. At one point this morning, the EMA encouraged
Baldwin County residents to stay off the roads. At Mobile Airport, 7.41
inches of rain had fallen by daybreak and they had more heavy rain through
much of the morning. The roof of a supermarket on Mobile Highway collapsed
from the weight of water and at one time one foot of water was covering part
of I-10 in the Mobile area.

Mobile wasn't the only one getting heavy rain. In the last 24 hours, around
3 inches has fallen in a number of areas northward to include Prattville,
Selma and the Gadsden area.

FRIDAY NOTES: It sure has been hot in South Texas for the last several
days. The national high yesterday was 94 in McAllen...cold spot in the lower
48 this morning was Yellowstone National Park with a low of 7 above.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I promise to make every effort to catch up on
playtime with my little Miss Molly over the weekend. I have totally
neglected her the last few days. Every time I walk through the living area
to get a cup of coffee, she grabs one of her toys and follows me to the
kitchen. She has a puzzled look on her face when I don't have time to play.
Her sleeping hours are all mixed up. Loud noises like thunder will send her
into hiding. She was wide awake at 2:00 o'clock this morning and slept until
11:00. I need to teach her to drink coffee and then I will nickname her
"weather dog." Life goes on.
