...Interesting Days Ahead...
GOOD MORNING! Remember those Ziggy greeting cards? The little round man
who always seemed to run into trouble? One showed Ziggy lying at the beach
listening to the weatherman say, "It's a gorgeous day out there," even as a
tornado appears on the horizon. One card showed several "you know it's
going to be a bad day when..." One cartoon showed a guy walking along when
he sees a bearded man building a gigantic ark in his back yard. I had my
own personal Ziggy yesterday afternoon when I got a note from my boss, the
esteemed James Spann warning that the forecast would be challenging this
weekend with the prospect of some really cold weather ahead during the first
half of March.
TODAY AND TONIGHT: No chilly weather today. In fact, readings will be in
the 0s today across the area with lots of sunshine. Skies should be partly
cloudy tonight with lows dropping to near 40, give or take a few degrees.
SUNDAY: Clouds return quickly on Sunday as low pressure develops to the
southwest of Alabama and heads our way. Rain will move into our area during
the day and continue through the overnight hours. Rainfall amounts will
average one half inch, with a few locally higher totals.
WORK WEEK AHEAD: Monday will feature clouds and colder conditions, along
with a little morning light rain. Readings may not get out of the 30s over
the Tennessee Valley. Tuesday should be chilly, but dry. Clouds will be on
the increase again as another low pressure system forms over the Gulf. This
system should stay well to our south, but with cold air in place over
extreme northern sections, an interesting situation will occur on Thursday
as some light snow might be possible over the Tennessee Valley. The rest of
the area should see a cold rain. Friday will feature clearing and colder
conditions once again.
TO INFINITY AND BEYOND: One thing looks definite. The first half of March
looks cold . Really cold. And really cold weather in the Deep South
provides interesting possibilities for wintry weather. No specific
forecasts at this time, but we will be watching for that rare combination of
cold and Gulf moisture.
