GOOD AFTERNOON: Today's highs are near normal for early January in
Alabama. Looks for a fairly impressive warm up to occur tomorrow. In fact,
temperatures tonight will bottom out early around 40 degrees, and then will
probably rise slightly during the night as a southwesterly flow increases
across the state. At the surface, high pressure to the east of Alabama and
a low pressure system sliding by to our north will set up the southwesterly
wind flow. Then get set for temperatures soaring to near 70 degrees
tomorrow in some areas. A great January day to get outside.

CHANGES AHEAD: As the low pressure system moves into the Great Lakes
region, it will send a trailing cold front our way. Clouds will begin to
thicken on Sunday night, with cloudy skies expected by Monday morning. A
few showers will break out by Monday morning as the front settles into
Alabama.

Meanwhile, a wave will develop to the west of Alabama. By Tuesday, the low
will be over Arkansas and shower activity will be increasing over the
Tennessee Valley. We could see a few showers over Central Alabama as well.
Showers and storms will move across the area on Wednesday. Behind this
system, the airmass will not be radically different, and mild conditions
will continue in its wake.

END OF THE WEEK: Thursday will be a day in0between systems, but a second
low moving across the Great Lakes will push another cold front our way.
This means another chance of showers on Friday. Those showers will exit
rather quickly as high pressure begins to build in for the weekend. That
high will move east, allowing for a return flow of moisture. The battle
between this high and a burgeoning Arctic high will set up a long slow
moving frontal system that will give us unsettled weather. Much colder air
will be lurking to our north for much of that week. This could spell some
wintry weather for us at some point that week.

2005 HURRICANE SEASON ENDS...FINALLY: December and January are usually
times for relaxation, research and reflection for forecasters at the
National Hurricane Center. Not this year. The NHC staff finally put a
footnote on the 2005 Hurricane Season when Zeta finally dissipated yesterday
afternoon.

The monster 2005 season is one for the books. The Accumulated Cyclone
Energy (ACE) observed during the year established a new record. ACE is a
measurement designed by NOAA to gauge the level of activity in a hurricane
season.

RECORD BIN: Friday was a warm one across the Rocky Mountain states,
central and southern Plains and the Southwest. Some notable record highs
included: 74F in Pueblo, Colorado; 65F in Colorado Springs. It was 66F at
Denver. At least 22 records were broken in the area of responsibility of
San Diego yesterday, including 83F at San Diego's Lindbergh Airport, 83 at
Laguna Beach and 89 at Fullerton.

ON THIS DATE IN 1973: A major ice storm crippled Atlanta with four inches
of freezing rain from the 7th to the 8th. Between 7pm and 9pm, 2.27 inches
of liquid equivalent precipitation fell in the form of freezing rain, sleet
and snow coated Atlanta while the temperature hovered at 32 degrees.
Schools and businesses were closed for several days and damages total $25
million. Up to 300,000 had no electricity for a week.

GOOD MORNING: Temperatures are starting off on the chilly side this morning across Alabama. Readings are generally in the middle and upper 20s. We will enjoy a decent warm up today, as compared to yesterday’s highs that were below 40 in many locations. Most areas should see lower 50s today under mostly sunny skies with a warming southwesterly breeze. With that southwest wind overnight, temperatures will only fall into the upper 30s in most areas.

FOR YOUR SUNDAY: Get ready for a remarkably nice January day tomorrow. We will continue in the southwest flow underneath a rather vigorous surface low over Missouri. Temperatures will warm well into the middle and upper 60s on Sunday, and don’t be surprised if a few locations hit 70 degrees. It will get quite breezy tomorrow, with southwest winds averaging as high as 20 mph. A Lake Wind Advisory will likely be required Sunday. Those breezy conditions will continue into Sunday night as the surface low moves to the north of Alabama.

START OF THE WEEK: Clouds will begin to increase Sunday night and by Monday morning, you can expect mostly cloudy conditions. A few showers will break out on Monday as a weak low associated with the surface low will overspread Alabama. These showers may continue into early Tuesday as a cool front passes through the area.

MIDWEEK AND BEYOND: Broad high pressure should be in control of our weather by Wednesday. This high will slide east on Thursday, giving us a return flow of moisture. Shower chances will be on the upswing in the Friday time frame as another low passes to our north.

ON THIS DATE IN 2004: Cyclone Heta ripped through the South Pacific Island of Niue, leaving the island province of 1,500 people so damaged that officials declared it might have to be permanently evacuated. The island’s infrastructure was nearly completely destroyed.

EVERYBODY WEARING COATS: At least everybody I saw today was. Good reason. A marked change in our weather from a few days ago. Remember that high of 80 in Tuscaloosa and Montgomery very recently? Big change for today as temperatures this afternoon were hanging out in the mid to upper 30s over North and

Central Alabama with brisk north winds. It felt as cold as a well diggers feet.

The wind will die down during the night. Big question is whether the clouds will move out quickly enough to let our temperature drop to the mid 20s. We are going to stick to our low of 25 for tonight, because it is likely the skies will clear a few hours before daybreak along with diminishing winds. If the clouds are still around tomorrow morning, our low may be closer to 30.
Sunshine returns Saturday and look for a marked warm up over the weekend getting well into the 60s Sunday and Monday. See our day-by-day forecast for details.

SNOWFLAKES: They were seen in a number of communities, mainly west of I-65 today. Just a novelty for Alabamians since we don’t see that very often. Had to focus your eyes sharply to see them in most areas. However in NW Alabama, Jamy Mays reported a light dusting in the Winfield/Haleyville area on cars and on rooftops. A few flakes as far south as Shelby County. Chuck Biddinger, a frequent contributor to the 33/40 blog, reported 35 flakes in Roebuck in the NE edge of Birmingham.

GET OUT OF HERE ZETA: A group cheering is in order. Unbelievable tropical system Zeta is becoming discombobulated way out in the middle of the Atlantic away from any land area. It could dissipate overnight. The poor thing spend its whole life at sea.

PROWLING: As much as 2 inches of snow was expected to accumulate today in the higher elevations in the Smoky Mountains...there was already 1 inch on the ground this morning at Newfound Gap and 6 inches atop Mt. LeConte...11 below zero at the west entrance to Yellowstone Park was the coldest in the lower 48...29 below was Alaska’s coldest at Chandalar Lake...a very warm 89 Thursday at Santa Ana, California. That is also the same name of a powerful down slope wind that can create havoc with brush fires...Oklahoma still having a big problem with wild fires, mostly in the grasslands.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: When Little Miss Molly got home from the Puppy Beauty Shop late yesterday, she quickly curled up on my National Geographic blanket and slept most of the evening. She even turned down a treat. That is an all time record. She was exhausted from staying awake all day and missing her long naps. No playtime at all with her yesterday or today. She has been sleeping most of the time. They treat her extremely well at the beauty shop—she just doesn’t get any rest. I will catch up on playtime with her tomorrow. She and I are going to have to work out a timeshare agreement for my recliner. I have just about lost all rights. She has used eminent domain to take my National Geographic blanket but I finally convinced her that she could not take my upscale pillow. Life goes on.

...Colder Weather Returns...

Winter weather returns to Alabama today. Temperatures will struggle to reach the low 40s this afternoon along with a brisk northwest wind that will make it feel colder. Clouds will cover much of the state during the morning as a deep upper trough passes overhead. We will forecast some clearing by afternoon, but the clouds could very hang tough much of the day, especially over the northeast part of the state. A few patches of drizzle or flurries are possible this morning, but measurable precipitation is not likely.

With a clearing sky tonight, temperatures will drop quickly. Most communities will see lows down in the mid 20s early tomorrow.

WARMING UP AGAIN: A warming trend begins over the weekend, and we should be in the low 60s by Sunday, and mid 60s by Monday of next week. The weekend will be dry.

We will introduce the chance of showers late Monday and Tuesday of next week with a weak front moving into Alabama.. The best upper air support will remain north of the state, so amounts are not expected to be especially heavy.

LONG RANGE: The pattern favors changeable weather for Alabama through mid-month. The cold snaps we see should be fairly short-lived, and there will be some nice mild days in-between the cold periods. In fact, looks like we will enjoy highs in the 60s much of next week.

FIRE UPDATE: Wildfires are now mostly under control over Texas and Oklahoma, but weather conditions could bring the fires back over the weekend as a warm and dry wind will blow across those two states. Of Oklahoma's 77 counties, 33 have had fires, and the state emergency management center said damages had
surpassed the $10 million mark.

UP AND DOWN UP AND DOWN: The old thermometer continues to act like it is
attached to a bungee cord. It cannot make up it's mind. Quite a change
overnight, as you well know when you stepped out to grab the paper or walk
the dog this morning. Many places had 30 to 35-degree drops in temperature
overnight.

This afternoon much of the state was getting sunshine, but a deck of clouds
was poised to our north, especially from the Tennessee River northward. With
low level winds out of the NW, some of that cloudiness may spread down into
Central Alabama during the night.

Tomorrow is going to be rather uncomfortable with clouds persisting in the
morning, but breaking up during the afternoon. High temperatures will only
reach the low 40s in Central Alabama. Some places up in NE Alabama may not
get out of the mid 30s along the ridges. There could even be a few
snowflakes Friday morning, mainly over NE Alabama. Certainly nothing to get
alarmed about.

In keeping with its recent trend, the old thermometer will bounce back
starting Saturday and we will be back in the mild mid 60s Sunday and Monday.
Our coldest temperature will come early Saturday morning with mid 20s.

FOCUS ON ANNISTON: That East Alabama city was basking in 70-degree warmth
yesterday, but it was 36 early this morning. Not counting today, the average
high in Anniston for the first four days of January has been 68-about 16
degrees warmer than normal. Six out of the last 10 days featured highs in
the 60s.

ELSEWHERE: 85 in McAllen, Texas was the USA warm spot yesterday...coldest
this morning was 6 below zero at Big Piney, Wyo., and 32 below at Northway,
Alaska...it was only 41 at Little River Canyon in NE Alabama at 1 pm...some
of the colder temperatures in Northern Canada were around 32 below...that
was a terrible ice storm at this time in 1998 in the NE U.S. from New
England into Canada. Normally this time of year they would get almost all
snow. Up to 3 inches of ice coated the area knocking power out for 4 million
people. 56 people died and there was $1 billion in damage.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Cheers!Getting a nice Molly break today. She
is at the PBS (Puppy Beauty Shop) getting a trim. When we put her in the
car, she automatically translates that as a trip to the puppy doctor. She
starts shaking uncontrollably. She knows where she is going because she does
not shake a bit on the way home...I felt sorry for her again last night. I
was determined to watch every play of the Rose Bowl game. Molly agreed to
let me have the recliner, but toward the end, she became very assertive
about not having any playtime. She would jump two feet off the floor and
poke my arm. She finally brought three of her favorite toys, hopped up on
the recliner and deposited them in my lap. After the final whistle, we had a
vigorous play session. She seemed happy. That makes me happy. Nothing like
being happy. Life goes on.

...Colder Weather Returns...

A chilly breeze returns to Alabama today following another day of
spring-like temperatures. Birmingham's high yesterday was 70 degrees, 17
degrees above normal for early January. Tuscaloosa soared to 74.

Temperatures today will be a good 15 degrees cooler than yesterday, with
highs in the low 50s for most spots. The sky will be cloudy at times, but we
don't expect any rain today.

Even colder air flows in here tonight and tomorrow. There will be enough
moisture for a few sprinkles or snow flurries, but measurable precipitation
doesn't look likely at this point. Temperatures will really struggle to
reach the low 40s tomorrow, and a cold northwest wind will make the day even
more uncomfortable.

By Saturday morning with a clear sky, low temperatures should be in the mid
20s for most communities. Then, the cold air move out just about as quickly
as it moves in. We warm to near 50 on Saturday, followed by low 60s Sunday
afternoon. The weekend will be dry.

NEXT WEEK: It now looks like a cold front could trigger a few showers by
Monday night and Tuesday. The best dynamics will pass north of the state, so
rainfall amounts should be light.

WARM SPOT: The warmest weather in the nation yesterday was across the Rio
Grande Valley of deep south Texas, where McAllen reported a high of 85
degrees.

COLD SPOT: Yesterday's high in Fairbanks, Alaska was 11 degrees below zero.
Very cold air continues to build across Alaska and western Canada. We will
keep an eye on it.

FLORIDA FREEZE: Freezing temperatures are possible as far south as
Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa Bay early Saturday morning.

OUR ROLLER COASTER THERMOMETER: Would you believe it was below freezing in
parts of NE Alabama this morning, but it is above 70 degrees this afternoon
over parts of West and South Alabama? That is the way our thermometer has
been behaving the last several days.

Still another cold front is getting close to the state this afternoon. It
will move across during the night and by morning temperatures will be in the
upper 30s and lower 40s. Clouds will be in and out Thursday with highs only
in the lower 50s. A reinforcing supply of colder air will be here Friday
with highs all across North Alabama barely getting up to 40. There could
even be a few snowflakes scattered about Friday morning, although we have
not mentioned them formally in our forecast. Our coldest temperature should
be in the mid 20s Saturday morning, but we expect quite a bit of sunshine
over the weekend. By Sunday the thermometer will bounce back to the lower
60s.

TRAVELING EVERYWHERE: A hot 92 in Laredo, Texas yesterday. Some cold
temperatures this morning included 14 below zero in Caribou, Maine, 25 below
in Northway, Alaska, 29 below in extreme Northern Canada, 52 below at
Summit, Greenland, and 68 below at Ojmjakon, Siberia.

THE SAGA OF RINGOLD: It is a small town on US-82 in North Texas east of
Wichita Falls. When the town was laid out way back in 1892, lots were
selling for $50 to $75. The population peaked at over 400 in its heyday, but
it dropped off to 100 in the early 90s. Ringold fell victim to the recent
vicious grass fires in North Texas and Oklahoma. Essentially, most of the
town is gone. It is a sad story. Even some of the livestock was burned to
death. I feel connected to Ringold and a lot of other towns on US-82 in
North Texas. We traveled that way almost every year in the 60s and early 70s
visiting family and relatives in Colorado, Arizona and Utah. I well remember
coming through Ringold in the middle of the night once under a full moon.
The little community seemed so peaceful. Since December, those fires have
burned about one-quarter million acres in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma
destroying some 250 homes and killing 3 people.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I think Little Miss Molly became disgusted
with me late last night. I, like a bunch of other people, became glued to
the Penn State-Florida State Orange Bowl. No playtime for Molly and she did
not really get to go to bed for good until well past midnight. Looks like
tonight will be a repeat with the Rose Bowl. I have tried to play with her a
lot every chance I got today, but with so much on my plate, it is only a few
minutes at a time. She loves those 30-minute wild play sessions where both
she and I end up with our tongues hanging out. I am still addicted to that
little girl.

There is an old saying that my goal in life is to be as good as my Molly
thinks I am. We are still well bonded. Life goes on.

...Very Changeable Weather...

Quite a roller coaster ride ahead for thermometers in Alabama. This
afternoon will feel more like spring today, with most communities reaching
the upper 60s. Some spots might even touch 70 degrees. But, don't get used
to it.

A COLD CHANGE: A cold front advances into the state tomorrow with clouds and
daytime temperatures struggling the reach the low 50s.

Even colder air rolls in here on Friday as an upper trough deepens over the
eastern U.S. Many places will have a hard time reaching the 40 degree mark
on Friday with a very chilly north wind. Clouds will cover the northern half
of the state much of the day, and there could be enough moisture around for
a few sprinkles or snow flurries. Quite a contrast from the 80 degree warmth
some folks saw Monday.

A freeze is likely by Saturday morning with mid 20s likely for most
communities.

WEEKEND WARMUP: A warming trend begins Saturday afternoon as we head toward
the 50 degree mark, and 60 degrees will be possible by Sunday. The weekend
will be dry.

PEEK AT NEXT WEEK: The main storm track will be north of Alabama for at
least the first half of next week, so the weather looks dry with
temperatures running about 5 to 10 degrees above normal Monday through
Wednesday.

ALASKA WATCH: Cold air is beginning to return to Alaska; yesterday's cold
spot was Chandalar Lake with 26 below zero.

TEXAS HEAT: Hottest spot in the nation yesterday was Laredo, Texas with 92
degrees.

CALIFORNIA SNOW: Mammoth Mountain (elevation 9,000'), in the Sierra Nevada
mountains, reported 95 inches of new snow in the past 48 hours from a major
Pacific storm.

THE ALABAMA STORY: It was a story of exceptionally mild weather Monday, but
a change to cooler for today. Those high temperatures across the state
yesterday were more common to early May than early January. Just a few of
the highs included,

81 in Selma, Montgomery, Wilsonville
80 in Prattville, Mobile
79 in Livingston
78 in Hamilton, Horseshoe Bend, Wadley
77 in Birmingham, Talladega, Alexander City
74 in Huntsville

The same old problem persisted today-low clouds inviting themselves down
into the northern counties and not wanting to go home. This meant the
temperatures across the Tennessee Valley were quite a bit cooler than
further south. Most of that cloudiness should break up tonight leaving us
mostly clear.

We still do not see any major change to colder until next weekend when
morning lows on Saturday should be in the 20s. After that another warm up.
Please see our day-by-day forecast for all of the details.

TROPICAL STORM ZETA: It is hanging on like glue. It (we do not know if it
is a he or a she) actually grew stronger over the last day or so with
sustained winds now 65 mph-only 9 mph short of hurricane strength. The
position was about 1,400 east of the Leeward Islands moving WSW at 5. Will
we still have a tropical storm to bug us at Easter? Or a year around
tropical storm? Of course not.

A TREMENDOUS CONTRAST: Between the Central and Southern Plains with roaring
grass fires and the west coast where they would absolutely love to turn off
the spigot. The reports of mudslides and flooding way too numerous to list.
In Ventura County, over 10 inches of rain has fallen in the last 48 hours at
Cisar Peak and 8.55 inches at Los Prietos in Santa Barbara County. Near San
Francisco, the town of Kentfield received 28.55 inches during December,
which was 400% of normal!...temperature contrasts 91 in Laredo and 90 in
Alice, Tex. Monday and a low this morning of 15 below at Presque Isle, Maine
and 25 below at Chandalar Lake, Alaska.

A BAD, BAD EARLY JANUARY TORNADO: It happened at Warren, Arkansas on
January 3, 1949. 57 persons were killed and 435 injured. On that same day, a
school bus driver paused long enough to let an F3 tornado cross the road in
front of him near Haynesville, Louisiana.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Poor Little Miss Molly. She did not enjoy
ringing in the New Year at all! She does not like sudden loud noises. I took
her out at 10:30 p.m. New Year's Eve hoping to let her do her business
before the noise set in. We were part way up the walking track when some
people in an adjacent neighborhood decided to fire early. They sent up one
of those rockets that explodes about 100 feet in the air. It sounded like
the beginning of World War III. It scared the living night lights out of
Molly and she was no longer interested in going to the bathroom. She jumped
completely off the ground and ran back and parked on my foot with her little
paws on my knee begging me to pick her up. She was shaking like a leaf and
it took her a long time to settle down. The fireworks kept sounding until
about 2:30 a.m. She had a fitful night of sleep. Guess who else did not get
enough sleep also, bu life goes on.

The calendar says January, but yesterday's weather was more like spring.
Record highs were common across the deep south; Birmingham soared to 77,
easily beating the old record of 74 set just one year ago. Other new records
yesterday included 80 at Mobile, 76 at Muscle Shoals, and 74 at Huntsville.
These values are over 20 degrees above normal for early January. The warmest
spot was Montgomery with 81.

A COOLER DAY: We are forecasting highs today only in the upper 50s as cooler
air returns to Alabama. The mercury will reach the upper 30s tomorrow
morning in most spots.

Clouds will increase on Thursday as a cold front moves into the state, but
at this point we don't expect any rain. A secondary surge of cold air
arrives on Friday, when we will have a hard time reaching the 40 degree mark
with a chilly north wind. There could be enough moisture for a few sprinkles
or flurries, but at this point it looks like most communities will be dry.

WEEKEND PEEK: After a cold start early Saturday with temperatures in the mid
20s, we expect a slow warming trend over the weekend. Highs should be in the
50s on Saturday, with 60s on Sunday. The weekend should be dry.

YESTERDAY'S RAIN: Early morning thunderstorms brought the first rain of the
year to some Alabama communities. Totals included 0.70" at Black Creek (near
Gadsden), 0.45" at Inverness, and 0.43" at Greystone Cove. Much of west
Alabama received no rain at all.

WILD WEST: Winds gusted to 96 MPH yesterday at a site north of Pasadena, CA.
Los Angeles was soaked with 1.83" of rain. The Rose Bowl parade was rained
on for the first time since 1955.

GOOD AFTERNOON: Well, if you read my forecast yesterday, you know that I
tried to replace the excitement of the New Years day college football games
with my grading the matchup between Severe Weather and Non Event. We were
all pulling for Non Event, and so far it has been a rout, with only two
tornadoes and about three dozen severe reports as of noon.

HOORAY CAPS! I collect caps. They are good things. Sometimes, a cap in
the atmosphere is a bad thing, especially over the Plains, where a capping
inversion can allow the atmosphere to reach the boiling point before it
produces convection, and the results are disastrous. Our cap from last
night and this morning was a very good thing. As I said yesterday, "Go
Non-Event." But we have to be prepared, especially in these overnight
events where people are not paying attention like they should Consider the
twenty two people who died in Evansville, Indiana from a middle or the night
tornado on November 6th.

Alabama experienced a record 74 tornadoes in 2005. That number was
tremendously inflated by the number of tropical systems that directly
affected the state. But there were no tornado fatalities in the state in
2005. The goal is to provide effective warnings and forecasts that don't
miss the mark, while not creating too many false alarms. The ultimate goal
is no fatalities.

IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL ITS OVER: But now it's over. Bright sunshine has
warmed temperatures well into the 70s across North and Central Alabama.
Dewpoints are dropping now across middle Alabama as an elevated dry line has
pushed nearly halfway across the state. This dry air is working like a big
roll of Bounty paper towels to soak up the available moisture. Some
impressive dynamics close to the upper low over Missouri are sparking a line
of strong storms over Tennessee, but they don't show signs of sneaking down
into Mississippi or eventually Alabama yet.

Our cold front is moving across western Mississippi this afternoon. It will
sweep through overnight, putting an end officially to this event.
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for Central Alabama through the remainder
of the afternoon for breezy west winds that are averaging 10-20 mph.

MOVING FORWARD: Some clouds may wrap back around the upper low tonight,
giving some of us cloud through the overnight and early morning hours. Lows
will drop well into the 40s. But skies should clear on Tuesday, although
temperatures will be significantly cooler. Look for highs on Tuesday to be
in the upper 50s. A dry front slips through Wednesday night, opening the
door for some much colder weather into the weekend. Temperatures on Friday
will struggle to get out of the 30s. There could even be a few light showers
or flurries Friday. Readings will be in the middle 20s Saturday morning.

RECORDS FALLING: A new record high was established for January 2nd in
Birmingham at the airport when the temperature reached 76F. The old record
was 74F set just last year. Muscle Shoals has broken their record high for
the date, which was 73F, with a reading of 75F so far. Huntsville also has
broken their record high for the date, of 72F, with 74F so far.

EARTHQUAKE: In the middle of last night's waiting and watching, a 7.3
earthquake occurred in the South Atlantic off South America. You
immediately think tsunami now, but fortunately one was not triggered.

ZETA: We have seen it all, heard it all in this crazy 2005 North Atlantic
Hurricane Season. From Arlene to Zeta, along with 25 named storms in
between, it seems an eternity since the first tropical storm of the season
formed on June 8th. And not to sound like Mr. Bringdown, but the start of
hurricane season is just five months away.

===================================================================

...Severe Weather Today...

GOOD MORNING: Alabama experienced a record number of tornadoes in 2005, and
2006 wasted no time in getting the severe weather year started in the state.

SEVERE WEATHER TODAY: Thunderstorms are ongoing this morning over Alabama
ahead of an upper level trough of low pressure. The system slowed
materially overnight, delaying the onset of the storms and severe weather.

The Storm Prediction Center has much of the eastern two thirds of Alabama
included in a Moderate Risk Outlook for Severe Weather today.

The storms will continue moving from west to east this morning. Strong
instability and wind shear will continue to produce a significant threat of
severe weather, including large hail and tornadoes. The storms will move
into Georgia by early afternoon.

Behind this morning's storms, skies will clear partially, allowing some sun
to break through. The airmass will become very unstable again, and more
storms will fire ahead of the cold front during the afternoon. These storms
will be capable of producing lots of large hail, like the ones last
Wednesday.. Temperatures should range from middle 60s over the East and to
near 70 in the West.

Skies may become cloudy again overnight as low clouds wrap back around into
the area. Lows tonight will drop into the middle 40s across the area.
Skies should clear later on Tuesday.

REST OF THE WEEK: Another system will pass on Wednesday, and though it will
be mostly dry, it will be the start to a change to colder. Some wraparound
clouds will be over the area for much of Thursday. Northerly flow will
continue to pump in cold air into early in the weekend. Highs may remain in
the 40s on Thursday and may even stay in the 30s on Friday. There might
even be a few light showers on Friday, or possibly even a few snow flurries.

BE PREPARED: Be alert to the latest warnings today. Take time to review
your weather safety plan now.
