...Very Changeable Weather...
Quite a roller coaster ride ahead for thermometers in Alabama. This
afternoon will feel more like spring today, with most communities reaching
the upper 60s. Some spots might even touch 70 degrees. But, don't get used
to it.
A COLD CHANGE: A cold front advances into the state tomorrow with clouds and
daytime temperatures struggling the reach the low 50s.
Even colder air rolls in here on Friday as an upper trough deepens over the
eastern U.S. Many places will have a hard time reaching the 40 degree mark
on Friday with a very chilly north wind. Clouds will cover the northern half
of the state much of the day, and there could be enough moisture around for
a few sprinkles or snow flurries. Quite a contrast from the 80 degree warmth
some folks saw Monday.
A freeze is likely by Saturday morning with mid 20s likely for most
communities.
WEEKEND WARMUP: A warming trend begins Saturday afternoon as we head toward
the 50 degree mark, and 60 degrees will be possible by Sunday. The weekend
will be dry.
PEEK AT NEXT WEEK: The main storm track will be north of Alabama for at
least the first half of next week, so the weather looks dry with
temperatures running about 5 to 10 degrees above normal Monday through
Wednesday.
ALASKA WATCH: Cold air is beginning to return to Alaska; yesterday's cold
spot was Chandalar Lake with 26 below zero.
TEXAS HEAT: Hottest spot in the nation yesterday was Laredo, Texas with 92
degrees.
CALIFORNIA SNOW: Mammoth Mountain (elevation 9,000'), in the Sierra Nevada
mountains, reported 95 inches of new snow in the past 48 hours from a major
Pacific storm.
