...Merry Christmas...

GOOD MORNING! Merry Christmas to you and your family this Sunday morning. It is going to be a cloudy, chilly Christmas Day with a breezy west wind and a little light rain lingering, especially during the morning. Clearing should occur by Monday morning, leading to dry weather through Tuesday before a new storm system brings midweek rains again.

TODAY: Colder air is flowing into Alabama today on westerly winds circulating around low pressure to our north. In fact, temperatures will hold steady in the 40s or slowly retreat in most locations today. The combination of the breezy west winds, chilly temperatures, thick clouds and occasional light rain will make for a miserable weather day today. It will be a great day to celebrate the birth of Christ or the beginning of Hanukkah. The two holidays fall on the same date for the first time since 1959. Skies will begin to clear overnight tonight, with temperatures falling to near freezing in most locations.

THE WEEK AHEAD: Monday looks to be a mostly sunny day, but readings will remain in the upper 40s. Clear and calm conditions will prevail Monday night. Tuesday will also dawn clear with morning readings right around freezing again. With southerly winds kicking back in on Tuesday, skies will become partly cloudy, and the mercury will “soar: into the lower 60s. By that time, low pressure over the Rockies will be moving out onto the Plains. As moisture levels increase across our area, showers may break out during the predawn hours on Wednesday. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with showers. As the low moves toward Alabama, showers and storms will increase Wednesday night. It may be a slow mover, keeping shower chances in our forecast into Thursday.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: The British Mars probe Beagle 2 may have been lost because of a missed weather forecast. Scientists believe that the craft’s parachutes failed to deploy as it attempt to land on the Red Planet on Christmas Day 2003 because the atmosphere was thinner than expected at the time.

GOOD AFTERNOON: It’s a cloudy, rainy Christmas Eve across Alabama. A large area of rain and embedded thunderstorms was edging eastward across the state at early afternoon. This rain will continue its eastward journey through the afternoon hours and into the evening. Rain will begin to diminish and colder air will begin spilling into the area tonight, giving us a chilly Christmas Day. Snow fans keep holding out hope that a little snow could fall on the backside of the system, but unfortunately, that doesn’t look likely. We will talk more about that.

ON THE WEATHER M APS: We find a very deep trough of low pressure in the upper atmosphere to our northwest. The trough is threatening to kink up into an upper level low that could deal us some forecasting headaches tonight and Sunday morning.

At the surface, low pressure is centered over northeastern Missouri early this afternoon. A cold front trails back to near Lake Charles, Louisiana. A warm front has traversed nearly all of the state of Mississippi and is edging northeastward across Southwest Alabama. Elevated thunderstorms (which means that they are created from instability well above the surface of the Earth) are present in the rain area. Many areas, if not most, will see some thunder this afternoon. Down in Southwest Alabama, around Marengo County and points south, there will be a couple of severe thunderstorms today before the front arrives. There could even be a couple of isolated tornadoes over far Southwest Alabama.

CHRISTMAS: WHITE OR WET: The correct answer is wet. Rain will begin to diminish fairly quickly this evening from the west. Local rain gauges should read 1/3 to 2/3 of an inch by morning, with some isolated one inch amounts.

Christmas Day will be cloudy and chilly with a little lingering light rain. Temperatures will remain in the 40s all day, holding steady or rising a couple of degrees at best. The upper low will be rotating across North Alabama Sunday morning. This feature will be associated with some really cold air aloft, which could allow those snowflakes to make it a little closer to the ground. Unfortunately for snow lovers, the lowest layers of the atmosphere are warm and precipitation should remain all liquid. There could be a few snowflakes over some of the higher elevations of North and Northeast Alabama and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some location get a little bit of accumulation. The chances are just slim.

WEEK AHEAD: Monday should be sunny, with seasonably cool temperatures. Tuesday looks like a nice day, with temperatures threatening 60 degrees. Wednesday will be wet as a storm system moves across. Thursday will feature clouds and a little lingering light rain. A weak system passes to the north of us on early on Saturday.

ON THIS DATE IN 1983: 1983 saw the coldest Christmas Eve on record for much of the United States. Over 125 cities recorded record lows for the date, including 17 cities that established all-time record lows for the month of December. Chicago recorded its’ coldest ever with a reading of 25 degrees below zero and Havre MT recorded their all-time low with 50 degrees below zero. The all-time U.S. record high barometric pressure is recorded with 31.42 inches of mercury at Miles City MT. The morning low in Birmingham was a cold 15F. But the official low for the date was 4F, set just before midnight as temperatures plummeted. The low on Christmas morning was a bone chilling 1F in the Magic City.

ON THIS DATE IN 2002: Christmas Eve tornado touched down near Headland in Henry County, Alabama. Several mobile homes were destroyed. Eight people were injured.

...Merry Christmas...

GOOD MORNING: A damp Christmas Eve is in store for Central Alabama as low pressure to our north and northwest pushes a cold front across the state tonight.

DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS: Fans of a White Christmas keep holding out hope that a miracle will happen. The evening runs of the NAM model encouraged that hope in the form of an upper low and its attendant cold air aloft. Then the GFS began to hint at the same possibility of an upper low moving across Alabama late tonight and Monday morning. Could the cold air aloft allow some snow to reach the ground over parts of North Alabama? It is not out of the question and something that we will have to monitor during the day. Keeping fingers crossed….

FORECAST: Clouds are overspreading the area this morning. Rain will be overspreading the area during the day and continue overnight. Rainfall amounts should range from one half to one inch. By late this evening, the low pressure system will be just to the north of Alabama. The cold front will be pushing across the state at that time. The upper level temperatures are borderline to allow some snow, especially over the high elevations of Northeast Alabama, but the lowest levels of the atmosphere should be warm enough to keep the precipitation mostly liquid. Don’t be surprised to hear of a couple of inches of snow somewhere over Northeast Alabama. It is unlikely, but possible. Remember the December 1997 West Alabama snow event.

Christmas Day looks to be cloudy, cool and drizzly, with a chance that light rain will continue. Skies should clear Sunday night, with freezing temperatures by Monday. Monday will be sunny, but chilly. Dry conditions will continue through Tuesday as high pressure dominates our weather. Southerly winds should increase moisture levels by Tuesday night, with showers breaking out Wednesday.

LOOK FOR SOME WEEKEND RAIN: Most of it will occur Saturday afternoon and Saturday night as a disturbance spreads eastward across the central part of the country. Don’t be surprised if you hear some thunder at some point Saturday afternoon and evening, but it is not a situation that favors a severe weather threat. It is due more so to colder air moving in aloft.

Tonight we may have our low temperatures before midnight, especially over the western part of the state, as a high pressure system slides off to the east. It is also going to be one of those nights when you can almost choose you own low temperature. Over on the west side of the state, it may not get under 40, while in some of the secluded valleys in NE Alabama it may drop to near freezing.

CHRISTMAS DAY: After warming up to near 60 on Saturday, Christmas Day will feel a lot colder with temperature staying in the 40s all day along with brisk west winds. There could be some lingering light rain Christmas morning—mainly over the north third of the state. In some areas, it will only be sprinkles.

NEXT WEEK: Sunshine returns Monday as a warming trend starts. You will really enjoy Tuesday as afternoon temperature climb into the mid 60s. Next storm system will bring us some more showers about Wednesday.

LAST NIGHT: Another cold one and again temperatures dropped lower than expected. Samples:

14 at Crudup (north of Gadsden in deep valley)
15 at Horseshoe Bend, Black Creek and Rock Mills
16 at Gadsden and Wedowee
17 in Hamilton, Talladega and Heflin
18 in Ft. Payne
19 in Pinson, Jasper, Wadley, Albertville, Hartselle
20 in Anniston
22 in Huntsville, Tuscaloosa

WE HEAR CHEERS FROM THE NORTH: Chicago, where it has been very cold this December, was expecting 37 this afternoon and 42 tomorrow. They won’t know how to act. This afternoon, temperatures had soared into the low 60s in SW Nebraska...other notes...the low this morning was zero in Gunnison, Colorado for the coldest. One year ago a rare snow covered the ground all the way down to Galveston Island. There was 4 inches in Corpus Christi. Brownsville got 1.5 inches—the first snow on the ground in over 100 years.

A BITTER TIME IN 1989: It was 1 above zero in Birmingham this date that year—part of a tremendous cold wave all the way to the Gulf Coast. It dropped to 11 in New Orleans. The center of the high pressure system built to 1061 milibars.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: A record busy day for Little Miss Molly yesterday as we had our family Christmas. The house was full of folks and she spent much of the day dashing to her safe places because of the noise. Every time I would even walk toward my weather office, she would outrun me and be standing on her hind legs with her front paws on my chair wanting me to lift her up on my desk. That is one of her very favorite safe places, because I am usually sitting there. She will come over close to me and want to be hugged. She had great fun—she just doesn‘t like the sudden noises. Life goes on.

...Some Rain Over The Weekend...

The warming trend continues today across Alabama. With ample sunshine,
temperatures should rise into the upper 50s this afternoon; some spots might
touch the 60 degree mark.

WEEKEND CHANGES: Clouds return to the state after midnight tonight, and
showers will move through tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night in advance
of a cold front. At this point it looks like the best chance of showers will
come from about 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. tomorrow. Amounts of one-quarter
to one-half inch are likely for most communities.

Following the showers, colder air rolls in here on Christmas day.
Temperatures should hold in the 40s all day Sunday, and a little lingering
drizzle is possible during the morning over the far northern part of the
state. Clouds will also linger, but clearing is possible during the
afternoon especially from Birmingham south and west.

A few snow flakes are not out of the question Sunday over the high terrain
of northeast Alabama, but with surface temperatures in the 40s they should
melt before reaching the ground.

NEXT WEEK: Dry and pleasant weather is forecast on Monday and Tuesday, but a
disturbance will bring clouds and a chance of rain at times on Wednesday and
Thursday.

RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham's rain deficit for the year now stands at 4.60"
based on a total of 48.03" since January 1. Huntsville's rain deficit for
the year is 16.80".

HEAT WAVE: The high in Chicago yesterday was 38 degrees. That was the first
day with temperatures above freezing there since December 15, when the high
was 35. The mercury has exceeded 32 degrees on only three days all month in
Chicago.

THREE CHEERS FOR A WARMING TREND: It is not going to last forever, however,
because another cold front will come waltzing through late Saturday night
and it will jerk the temperatures back to reality on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, let's enjoy upper 50s tomorrow and around 60 on Saturday for
highs. The temperature may stay in the mid 40s most of Sunday.
THE PRECIPITATION STORY: Still looks like clouds will increase Saturday
with some rain starting in the afternoon and continuing most of Saturday
night. This is due to a cold front approaching from the northwest. By
Sunday, we may have to deal with a low pressure area aloft just to the north
of our area. As a result, there could be some scattered light rain still
persisting on Christmas Day-mostly during the morning.

COLDEST OF THE SEASON: That's what happened at several locations in Alabama
last night with clear skies and no wind and helped along by low dew points,
the temperature dropped to below freezing over most of the state. This time
of year the final low often does not occur until after the standard 6 am
reporting time of highs and lows. An example is Birmingham Airport where the
low was 23 up until 6 this morning but the final low was 20. Let's take a
look at some of the lows:

14 in Black Creek, the lowest since 11 last January 24
15 in Munford and Gaylesville
16 in Ft. Payne, Hartselle and Wedowee
17 in Pinson, Hueytown, Hamilton, Cottondale
18 in Heflin, Anniston and Gadsden
19 in Alabaster, Jasper and Montgomery
20 at Vinemont, Center Point, Oxford, Huntsville, Moulton, Athens,
Guntersville, Albertville and Birmingham Airport
21 in Tuscaloosa, Livingston, Fayette, Cullman
22 at Alexander City, Decatur
23 in Northport, Inverness, Rock Mills
26 in Helena, Mentone and Eutaw
27 in Selma and atop Mt. Cheaha

While we are talking about temperatures, the coldest in the lower 48 this
morning was again in Saranac Lake, New York with 9 below zero...Alaska's
coldest was 18 below at Point Lay...interesting to note that Riverside,
California had some summer-like heat yesterday with 90...in the Great Smoky
Mountains there is still 12 inches of snow on Mt. LeConte with a low of 14
this morning.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Poor Little Miss Molly. She is a nervous wreck
today. This is our designated family Christmas Day. Our family has had to do
that for many years. I worked around-the-clock shifts at the National
Weather Service for 32 years and changed days off every month. Now my son, a
fireman, has variable off days. So we simply assign a certain day to
celebrate and enjoy it just as much. With all the people here today, Little
Miss Molly has been going from nook and cranny to nook and cranny trying to
find a quiet place because of all the noise. She loves people, but not too
many at one time. She has been begging to sit on my desk while I write this
weather report, but she wants to walk across my keyboard. Blame any typos on
Molly! Life goes on, a bit hectic at times.

...A Warming Trend Begins Today...

Following another morning in the deep freeze, a warming trend begins this
afternoon across Alabama that will last through the beginning of Christmas
weekend. We expect mid 50s today and upper 50s tomorrow with ample sunshine
both days.

CHRISTMAS WEEKEND: A cold front will bring the risk of a few showers late
Saturday and Saturday night, but at this point we don't expect a big rain
event, with most communities getting a quarter of an inch or less. Looks
like the best chance of a shower will come from about 4:00 p.m. Saturday
through 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Colder air moves back into the state on Christmas day. Temperatures should
hold in the 40s, with morning clouds giving way to some sunshine by
afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: Most of the week should be cool and dry, although some model runs
are suggesting a mid-week storm system that would bring a chance of some
rain in the Wednesday-Thursday time frame.

SIXTEEN YEARS AGO: Alabama was in the midst of a severe cold wave on
December 22, 1989. The low that morning in Birmingham was 4 degrees. The
mercury would drop to one degree the following morning, followed by a low of
4 degrees again on December 24. Many ponds and streams were frozen solid.

ROAMING: The high yesterday in Coolidge, Arizona was 82 degrees, a few
record high for the date. Most of the nation is dry; the bulk of the
precipitation yesterday was in the Pacific Northwest, where Salem, Oregon
measured 1.32" of rain. Yesterday's high in Denver was a comfortable 62
degrees, 15 degrees warmer that Birmingham's high of 47.

WINTER IS HERE: 'Tis the first day of Winter on the calendar, but we
weather humans could care less. As far as we are concerned, winter arrived
on December 1 as we consider December-January-February the real winter.

This December has certainly acted like winter. Based on official data at
Birmingham Airport, 15 of the first 21 days (counting today) were colder
than normal. The month so far has averaged 5.4 degrees below normal, which
is substantial. We have not had a single 70-degree temperature. Out of the
first 21 days, 14 have had low temperatures freezing or lower.

Looks like some moderation over the next few days, but certainly no time to
bring out the suntan lotion. Highs will recover to the 50s starting tomorrow
before another cold front coming through Christmas Eve night. Look for
mostly sunshine through Friday. Some rain will arrive Saturday afternoon and
continue Saturday night. It should be ending Christmas morning as it turns
colder again. Doesn't look like a big rain event, but some areas could get
1/4 to 1/2 inch. There is an outside chance that people living up on Sand
Mountain and Lookout Mountain in NE Alabama could see a few snowflakes as
the rain ends Sunday morning. Chance of a white Christmas is very close to
zero.

Just a few of the low temperatures this morning:

16 in Ft. Payne
17 in Hazel Green
23 in Guntersville, Hartselle, atop Mt. Cheaha
24 in Athens
25 in Helena

PROWLING AROUND THE USA: Some interesting temperatures in the Southern
Appalachians this morning. A low of 4 above zero on Mt. Mitchell North
Carolina with 2 inches of snow. It was 10 atop Mt. LeConte in the Smoky
Mountains with 13 inches of snow. Newfound Gap at 14 degrees and 7 inches of
snow. A low of 5 above at Mountain City in extreme NE Tennessee-the highest
incorporated town in the state...19 below at Saranac Lake in Upstate New
York. They have been the coldest spot in the lower 48 a number of times this
season...coldest in Alaska was 18 below at Wainwright...on the Alaskan
coast, Valdez has received 84.13 inches of rain this year. This includes 105
inches of snow so far this season.

DID YOU KNOW that fast-moving flood waters only 6 inches deep can sweep you
off your feet?

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: A bonanza of a holiday for Little Miss Molly.
All six grandkids were here last night for our annual cookie
decorating/spend-the-night. This means that Molly had wall-to-wall
playmates. Did she ever have fun! That means she was also totally exhausted
when the evening wound down and we got into bed around midnight. She was so
tired that she tried to grab some short power naps during the course of the
evening. Each year after this is over, she sleeps almost continuously for
two days in a row. Too bad we can't do the same, but life goes on-rested or
exhausted. We love the Christmas season. Might even get Molly a doggie-size
beach ball. Merry Christmas to all of you.

...Another Dry and Cold Day...

Unseasonably cold weather continues across Alabama. After another hard
freeze this morning, temperatures will fail to reach 50 for the third day in
a row. Very dry air means a good deal of sunshine throughout the day.
Tonight will be another cold one, with temperatures reaching the mid 20s by
daybreak tomorrow.

A warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon, and will continue through
Saturday.

WEEKEND STORM: A storm system will roll through Alabama over the Christmas
weekend. We will bring in the chance of showers by Saturday afternoon,
continuing Saturday night. Very cold air aloft with the system will also set
the stage for the possibility of a few thunderstorms as well.

The rain will taper off by Christmas morning as colder air begins to return
to the state. Some of the computer models hint at a little lingering light
rain, or maybe even a few snow flurries Sunday evening. If we do happen to
see snow flakes, any accumulation is not likely at all since the
precipitation should be very light, and the lower 2,000 feet of the
atmosphere should remain above freezing. A brisk northerly wind should make
for a fairly blustery Christmas day.

NEXT WEEK: Warmer temperatures return again by the middle of next week, but
another storm should threaten the deep south toward the end of the week
which might bring a fresh shot of cold air by New Years weekend.

WELCOME WINTER: The winter solstice today comes at 12:35 p.m. CST. The
amount of daylight will begin to increase tomorrow as the sun begins the
journey northward.

TOASTY: Yesterday's hot spot around the nation was Ramona, CA with 83
degrees.

ANOTHER COLD NIGHT: Last night was among the coldest nights we have had so
far this season. Let's look at some of the lows:.

17 in Florence
18 atop Monte Sano, Huntsville and at Harvest
19 in Ft. Payne, Mentone, Black Creek, Hamilton
20 in Athens, Hartselle and atop Mt. Cheaha
21 in Huntsville, Pinson, Moulton
22 in Cullman, Hayden, Leeds, Guntersville
23 in Birmingham, Gadsden, Alabaster, Jasper
25 in Talladega, Wedowee, Reform
26 in Anniston, Tuscaloosa, Helena, Northport

Tonight's low temperatures will be similar, although we do have a little
intruder. Some clouds may move across the area during the night and hold up
temperatures a bit. But we think enough of the night will be clear for lows
across Central Alabama to fall to about 23. Mostly sunshine returns
Wednesday, Thursday and most of Friday. Some rain may arrive by Saturday
afternoon and continue overnight and linger into part of Christmas Day and
it could be moderate.

ROAMING: Great big storms on the Pacific NW Coast with high winds and
buckets of rain. Coos Bay, Oregon received 1.56 inches of rain this
morning...not as bitter cold as on recent days. The low for the lower 48
this morning was 9 below at Williston, North Dakota...warmest yesterday 85
at LaMesa, California...across North Alabama this afternoon, despite the
sunshine, temperatures were only in the upper 30s and 40s.

INTERESTING WEATHER SPOT: Today let's visit Churchill, Manitoba on the SW
shore of giant Hudson Bay in Canada-only reachable by air. It is known as
the Polar Bear Capitol of the world. It can get bitter cold and very windy
in wintertime with the wind blowing so hard it would blow your hat off even
if anchored even by velcro. I sure would like to visit there, but less than
a 5% chance. A very interesting fact about that location-the aurora borealis
(also known as the "northern lights") is visible an average of 300 nights
per year! Down here in Alabama, we may not see one of those for 5 years.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I have no idea why Little Miss Molly slept
until after 10 this morning. That is a record for December 20. I started to
go into the bedroom where she was sleeping barking at the top of my voice
just to see how she would react. I did keep her awake until late last night,
however, playing ball, pull rope and giving her tummy rubs and wrestling on
the couch. It has been almost three years since that little lady walked into
our house and won me over in a St. Louis second. She suckered me in like a
vacuum cleaner. My life hasn't been the same since but I am healthier since
I have walked hundreds of miles with her. I have never seen a little animal
as happy as she is during her daily walks...I know this is a nation of buzz
words but I heard "at this point in time" in a TV interview for the
866,443,786th time. What in the world is wrong with the word, "now?" Means
exactly the same thing. Excuse my little pet peeve. Life goes on.

...Temperatures Remain Cold...

COULD IT BE? I hesitate to mention this, but the computer guidance for the
weekend now shows a colder and deeper storm impacting Alabama. The system
should bring periods of rain Saturday and Saturday night, and there is
actually some chance of a change to snow on the back side of the storm on
Christmas morning.

We sure don't want to go overboard on this, but this setup has shown up on
consecutive model runs. Low level temperatures might be too warm, and any
snow flakes could melt on the way down. And, the deepest moisture could be
east of here before the cold air arrives. You know the usual problems with
snow here in Alabama.

But I guess we have to at least raise the possibility for those long time
dreamers. Most of Alabama has never seen a "White Christmas" in the classic
sense.

SHORT TERM: A strong upper air system will roll through Alabama late today
and tonight. This system did produce light snow over much of Oklahoma
yesterday, but it looks like the very dry air over Alabama will prevent most
snow flakes from reaching the ground. A few isolated flurries could be seen
tonight, but most places will be simply cold and dry.

The mercury will struggle to reach the mid 40s today, by daybreak tomorrow
morning mid 20s are likely. Some of the colder spots will be closer to 20
degrees.

A warming trend begins on Thursday, and we might even see 60 degrees in
spots by Friday afternoon as winds turn to the south.

ROAMING: Quite a warm-up for Denver in the days ahead; the mercury dropped
to 5 degrees yesterday morning, but by tomorrow afternoon they should reach
the mid 50s.

A QUIET CHRISTMAS WEEK: That is, unless something unexpected happens which
is always possible. This should be good for late Christmas shoppers. (Me!)
We are going to have some cold nights and rather chilly days, but milder
daytime temperatures are expected by the end of the week.

Low temperatures tonight will get well down into the 20s and some of the
colder valleys may see upper teens. Same story Tuesday night. There will be
some clouds moving over Central Alabama tonight and Tuesday. However, the
chance of snow flurries should be nil to none because it is so dry. Some
flurries were reaching the ground at nearby as Pine Bluff, Arkansas this
afternoon.

CHRISTMAS WEATHER: For a time it looked like Christmas Day could be wet. All
the latest evidence that we can dig up, analyze and psychoanalyze will bring
some mostly light rain to our area late on Christmas Eve. However it is
going to scoot out right away and now Christmas Day looks dry with clearing
skies and highs in the 50s.

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN to Flagstaff, Arizona? It is an interesting weather spot.
It is a true oasis. The first time I was there, there were no interstates
and U.S. 66 was the answer. Going west on I-40 you leave barren desert in
Eastern Arizona, climb up into the high country around Flagstaff and
Williams and back down into desert country in Western Arizona. The highest
mountains in Arizona surround Flagstaff on the north and there is skiing.
Camping above the 10,000-foot level one night we almost got blown away. Our
camper was rocking. At this time in 1967, there was 83 inches of snow on the
ground at Flagstaff. That is an all-time record and caused huge problems.
Many structures collapsed under the weight of the snow and many parts of the
Navajo nation were stranded and isolated. Just another interesting weather
spot in the good old USA...while we are speaking of the USA, some cold spots
this morning included 26 below zero at Potomac, Montana and 24 below at
Bozeman...travel was highly discouraged today across the Texas Panhandle
because of a mix of freezing rain and snow.big storms continue in the
Pacific NW.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Sights, sounds and smells in Mollyland. On our
usual half-mile walk, all the leaves have now fallen from a sassafras tree.
They are big leaves and Molly loves to thrash her way through...just a few
leaves hanging on the two Bradford pear trees in Molly's backyard. Sure glad
I photographed them during the peak of autumn color...the Old Crow Motel is
as barren as can be. It is the tallest tree in the community...neighbors
that live right around it want to take it down before high winds blow it
across their houses. That will be a sad day. It is a landmark. Molly loves
to walk as close to the hedgerow as possible, even if I stay on the walking
track. She became airborne this morning for a distance of about 7 feet and
landed in some thick underbrush with her tail wagging like she had just
landed on the moon. It was some kind of tiny varmint...sure enjoyed a great
Christmas musical at our church last night (Huffman Baptist.) At one point,
everyone was holding a lighted candle high while singing "Silent Night."
Life goes on.
