...Another Dry and Cold Day...

Unseasonably cold weather continues across Alabama. After another hard
freeze this morning, temperatures will fail to reach 50 for the third day in
a row. Very dry air means a good deal of sunshine throughout the day.
Tonight will be another cold one, with temperatures reaching the mid 20s by
daybreak tomorrow.

A warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon, and will continue through
Saturday.

WEEKEND STORM: A storm system will roll through Alabama over the Christmas
weekend. We will bring in the chance of showers by Saturday afternoon,
continuing Saturday night. Very cold air aloft with the system will also set
the stage for the possibility of a few thunderstorms as well.

The rain will taper off by Christmas morning as colder air begins to return
to the state. Some of the computer models hint at a little lingering light
rain, or maybe even a few snow flurries Sunday evening. If we do happen to
see snow flakes, any accumulation is not likely at all since the
precipitation should be very light, and the lower 2,000 feet of the
atmosphere should remain above freezing. A brisk northerly wind should make
for a fairly blustery Christmas day.

NEXT WEEK: Warmer temperatures return again by the middle of next week, but
another storm should threaten the deep south toward the end of the week
which might bring a fresh shot of cold air by New Years weekend.

WELCOME WINTER: The winter solstice today comes at 12:35 p.m. CST. The
amount of daylight will begin to increase tomorrow as the sun begins the
journey northward.

TOASTY: Yesterday's hot spot around the nation was Ramona, CA with 83
degrees.
