...Some Rain Over The Weekend...

The warming trend continues today across Alabama. With ample sunshine,
temperatures should rise into the upper 50s this afternoon; some spots might
touch the 60 degree mark.

WEEKEND CHANGES: Clouds return to the state after midnight tonight, and
showers will move through tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night in advance
of a cold front. At this point it looks like the best chance of showers will
come from about 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. tomorrow. Amounts of one-quarter
to one-half inch are likely for most communities.

Following the showers, colder air rolls in here on Christmas day.
Temperatures should hold in the 40s all day Sunday, and a little lingering
drizzle is possible during the morning over the far northern part of the
state. Clouds will also linger, but clearing is possible during the
afternoon especially from Birmingham south and west.

A few snow flakes are not out of the question Sunday over the high terrain
of northeast Alabama, but with surface temperatures in the 40s they should
melt before reaching the ground.

NEXT WEEK: Dry and pleasant weather is forecast on Monday and Tuesday, but a
disturbance will bring clouds and a chance of rain at times on Wednesday and
Thursday.

RAIN UPDATE: Birmingham's rain deficit for the year now stands at 4.60"
based on a total of 48.03" since January 1. Huntsville's rain deficit for
the year is 16.80".

HEAT WAVE: The high in Chicago yesterday was 38 degrees. That was the first
day with temperatures above freezing there since December 15, when the high
was 35. The mercury has exceeded 32 degrees on only three days all month in
Chicago.
