GIVE US A CHANCE!

Prestige Alarm specializes in monitoring security systems without the use of
expensive phone lines or unreliable cell phones.

How do we do this? Prestige Alarm is one of the few companies who monitors
with an UL listed FCC licensed radio network.
In a typical system, if your phone line is cut or fails, then you have no
communication to the outside world.

Since we do not use phone lines, we can still dispatch the fire or police
when the emergency requires. Despite cut phone lines, storms or over worked
cell phones, we still get the signal through.

We do not offer the free systems like some of the other security companies.
But you do not want to trust in free equipment to protect the people who are

...Another Good Soaking...

An unsettled, wet weather pattern is setting up for Alabama and the
Deep South for the next four days. There will be some decent breaks in
the rain, but you sure need to keep the rain gear handy. Look for
showers to slowly increase across the state today, with widespread
rain and a few thunderstorms tonight and tomorrow morning. This lead
system should produce average rain amounts of one to two inches across
the state, with isolated totals over two inches over the southwest
part of the state. As we have discussed all week, the risk of severe
weather for this part of Alabama is minimal with very little
atmospheric instability. Any severe storms should be confined to the
immediate Gulf coast region. The rain should diminish from west to
east during the midday hours tomorrow, but the far eastern counties
could see periods of rain well into the afternoon hours.

WEEKEND WEATHER: I still think most of the day Saturday will be dry.
Having said that, there will still be some residual moisture around,
which means a few isolated showers will form, but there will be very
little forcing. Some sun is possible at times on Saturday, and the
weather will remain very mild with afternoon temperatures well in the
60s. However, on Sunday, rain should become widespread again with a
second wave coming in from the west. Rain is likely much of the day
Sunday and into Sunday night, and an additional one inch of rain is
possible. Hopefully we will get away with no major flooding problems,
but it will be something to watch.

NEXT WEEK: The latest model data suggests the rain will move out of
the state Sunday night, with cooler air slowly moving in on Monday.
The sky should clear slowly from west to east Monday, with a decent
amount of sunshine by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Looks like
we will have the potential for a light freeze Tuesday and Wednesday
morning, but still nothing unusually cold for early January in
Alabama.

NEW COLD AIR BUILD-UP: We continue to watch with interest the build up
of bitterly cold Arctic air over much of Alaska and the western part
of Canada. The mercury dropped to 50 degrees below zero early
yesterday morning in Umiat, Alaska. How much, if any, of that brutally
cold air winds up in the Deep South later in the month remains to be
seen.

We have a weather watcher, Todd Foisy, in Girdwood, Alaska (Todd is
originally from Birmingham); he reported a high yesterday of 19
degrees with 58 inches of snow on the ground. Snow was increasing
again at his location last night.

ROAMING: Eugene, Oregon was soaked with 2.12" of rain yesterday. Up
the road at Seattle, the total was 1.01". Florida continues in the
midst of a winter warm spell; hottest places in the nation were all in
the Sunshine State where Fort Myers, Naples, and Punta Gorda all
reached 85 degrees.

DRY AGAIN WEDNESDAY, THEN MORE RAIN: Clouds finally moved out last
night and left Alabama clear and cold this morning. One of the lowest
temperatures was at Black Creek in NE Etowah County where it was 27
with moderate to heavy frost. That is an interesting weather spot in
Alabama and I will write a story about it soon.

You could not ask for a prettier day--brilliant blue sky, a bit
chilly, but a great contrast to yesterday. Now we look westward for
our next weather show and that will be more rain and a good amount of
it at that. Look for another dry day tomorrow, but clouds will
increase Wednesday night. Showers will start early Thursday and become
more numerous in the afternoon and at night along with a few
thunderstorms thrown in for good measure. Those will extend well into
Friday. The best estimate now is that Central Alabama will get about 2
inches of rain in this event, but as much as 3 inches in parts of
West-Central and SW Alabama. See our day-by-day forecast for all of
the details.

66 BELOW ZERO WIND CHILL IN ALASKA: Yep, it happened at good old
Deadhorse today. The temperature was 41 below, but there was enough
wind to send the wind chill to 66 below. It is getting quite cold over
Alaska and across the North Pole again. Even out in the Western
Aleutians, it was 30 below this morning at King Salmon. The coldest in
Alaska was 46 below at Nuiqsut. It was 62 below at Ojmjakon, Siberia.
There is now 72 inches of snow on the ground at Whittier, Alaska. That
is another very interesting weather spot that I will write about one
day. Down here in the lower 48, the coldest this morning was 27 below
at Antero Reservoir in North-Central Colorado. There is still a lot of
discomfort out on the Eastern Plains of Colorado from the last
snowstorm. In the SE part of the state, US-50 was still closed this
morning due to drifting snow and US-160 was closed from Trinidad to
the Kansas border. Still about 15 inches of snow in areas in and
around Denver and 40 inches at Bailey, Colorado.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Seems like we could see from here to
Chattanooga when Little Miss Molly and I took our morning walk. The
landscape was so sharp and clear. There was no haze or fog. The Old
Crow Motel stood out like a huge discombobulated tree (that is what it
is). Even the Old Crow Creek was running again after our recent heavy
rain. We met a lady along the track who was looking for her missing
dog. It disappeared from a home not far away. We will keep our eyes
open. Little Miss Molly has been the recipient of quite a bit of
playtime in the last 24 hours. Have you ever seen a more exciting
football game than the Oklahoma-Boise State Fiesta Bowl last night.
Life goes on if we can live through all the football.

police when the emergency requires. Despite cut phone lines, storms or
over worked cell phones, we still get the signal through.

We do not offer the free systems like some of the other security
companies. But you do not want to trust in free equipment to protect
the people who are close to you.

...Sunshine Returns In Full Supply...

Sunshine will return in full supply across Alabama today, and will
help push temperatures into the upper 50s this afternoon after a
sub-freezing start this morning. After another clear and cold night
tonight, the warming trend resumes tomorrow as the high will be in the
low 60s for most communities across the northern half of Alabama.

TO THE WEST: The "Four Corners Storm Machine" continues to crank 'em
out every three to four days, meaning dry periods here will be short
lived. Clouds will return on Thursday in advance of the next system
which is now forming over the southwest U.S. (the Four Corners is
where Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah come together). Showers
should enter West Alabama during the afternoon Thursday, and the rain
will overspread the entire state Thursday night. This system looks
fairly similar to the one that affected Alabama this past Sunday; we
believe the greatest chance of severe storms will be with 50 miles of
the Gulf coast. The air up this way most likely will be too stable for
a big severe weather threat, and wind fields at all levels aren't
particularly strong.

We do expect another good soaking, however; rainfall amounts of one to
two inches are likely, especially from about 6:00 p.m. Thursday
through 12:00 Noon Friday. This will bring us our first rainfall
surplus of 2007. The rain will taper off from west to east during the
day Friday, and we should be rain-free by Friday night.

WEEKEND PEEK: The FCSM (Four Corners Storm Machine) will toss out
another system quickly, which will bring more rain to Alabama before
the weekend is over. But, at this point it looks like we have a decent
chance of squeezing in a dry day on Saturday before the wet weather
returns late Saturday night and Sunday. Colder air will return to the
state early next week on Monday (January 8), but the current positive
phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) doesn't favor any long
lasting or really severe cold air shots here for the next 10 to 16
days. Can the NAO flip to the negative side? Sure, and that might very
well happen after the middle of this month, but no sign of it so far
based on computer model data.

DIGGING OUT: The most recent blizzard for the Rockies and the High
Plains was a monster; the storm was blamed for 12 deaths in four
states. The Civil Air Patrol sent six planes into the air Monday over
Colorado's Kit Carson County, where there had been reports of people
snowbound along Interstate 70, even though that highway reopened
Sunday.

ACROSS THE FRUITED PLAIN: We note that the weather is getting really
cold again around the Arctic region; the low yesterday morning in
Nuiqsut, Alaska was 46 degrees below zero; the coldest spot in the
nation. Bridgeport, CT was soaked with 2.15" of rain yesterday.
Warmest spot around the nation was Fort Lauderdale, Florida with a
balmy 82 degrees.

...Gradual Clearing...

NEAR FREEZING BY DAYBREAK: Alabama got a widespread drenching from
this latest storm system. Now we are dealing with an estimate on how
soon the clouds will get out of here. We look for clearing later
tonight in time for the temperature to fall to near freezing by
daybreak. A band of clouds persisted much of today over the north half
of the state and temperatures across the Tennessee Valley barely got
out of the low 40s. The colder air was slower about reaching SE
Alabama and they warmed into the mid 60s.

We look for mostly sunshine Tuesday and Wednesday. Our next chance of
rain will be on Thursday. We look for some showers to arrive by
Thursday afternoon. Showers and some thunderstorms will increase in
number Thursday night. This could include some strong thunderstorms.
There will still be a good chance of showers and some storms extending
into at least Friday morning. We will have some mild afternoon
temperatures Wednesday and Friday, mostly in the mid 60s.

THE ALABAMA RAIN SITUATION FOR 2006: There was a huge variation on
the amount of rain around the Birmingham area and areas both further
north and to the south. This list will show you the big difference:
42.59 inches for the year in Huntsville--a deficiency of 14.92 inches
56.56 at Birmingham Airport—an excess of 2.57
44.88 at Montgomery—a deficiency of 9.89
49.35 at Mobile Regional Airport—a deficiency of 16.94

It was only one year ago that Mobile finished 2005 with a huge
surplus, so they have had a big contrast in rainfall amounts for the
last 24 months. Pensacola had a similar contrast. Hurricanes played a
big part in 2005.

OUR WORLD OF WEATHER: There was still 18 inches of snow on the ground
this morning at Goodland, 19 inches at Atwood and 25 inches at
Wallace, all located in NW Kansas. In Eastern Colorado, there was 30
inches on the ground at Kit Carson and 16 inches in the Denver area.
Coldest temperature in the lower 48 this morning was 20 below at
Antero Reservoir in North Central Colorado and 8 below at Hallock,
Minnesota. It was 42 below in Nuiqsut, Alaska. Whittier, Alaska had 73
inches of snow.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: We semi-dreaded New Year's Eve night
because of fireworks, which always send Molly headed for the hills
just as quickly as thunder and lightning. Amazingly we heard very few.
She did head to one of her safe places in a back bedroom, but we gave
her a chew bone. That was like giving her a sedative. It greatly
alleviated her fear of a firecracker. We may have discovered something
good. Next time there is a big thunder-boomer, she may get another
chew bone. Life goes on. It is always interesting. Looking for another
great year with Miss Molly.

GIVE US A CHANCE!

Prestige Alarm specializes in monitoring security systems without the
use of expensive phone lines or unreliable cell phones.

How do we do this? Prestige Alarm is one of the few companies who
monitors with an UL listed FCC licensed radio network.
In a typical system, if your phone line is cut or fails, then you have
no communication to the outside world.

Since we do not use phone lines, we can still dispatch the fire or
