                ...Another Chilly Day...

Get ready for another raw day, but take heart.  A warming trend is on the way for later in the week, which will make for a wonderful Thanksgiving Day weather wise.

CHILLY NIGHTS AHEAD:   And a chilly day today, to boot.  Most areas will get off to a cloudy start, but sunshine should break through fairly quickly this morning.  A very amplified upper level pattern is bringing a strong northerly flow into the state, and it will be quite windy today.  Winds will average 10-20 mph with occasional gusts over 25 mph.  With cold air advecting into the area, temperatures will struggle to make 50 degrees.  Throw in the stiff northerly breezes and it will be a fairly uncomfortable day.  Tonight, under clear skies, temperatures will drop below freezing.  It looks like northerly winds will stay up just a bit overnight, probably keeping most locations out of the middle 20s.

The northerly flow will continue tomorrow, but with increased sunshine, readings will rise into the middle 50s.  The good news is that the winds will relax a bit.  Sunny skies will continue on Wednesday and on Thanksgiving day. Overnight readings will still be on the chilly side, but daytime highs will gradually warm to near 60 on Wednesday and threaten 70 on Thursday.

WEEKEND SNEAK PEEK:  It looks like a dry cold front will approach the area on Friday, passing through during the overnight hours.  It will be accompanied by an increase in cloudiness, but no showers.  The weekend should be dry with mainly seasonable temperatures.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL PLANNER:  A coastal low will develop off the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia by Tuesday.  It will move slowly north, bringing rain, wind and coastal flooding to the area from Jacksonville to the Outer Banks and then into the Mid-Atlantic states by Thanksgiving.  The good news is:  no cold air in involved.  A parade of storm systems will move into the Pacific Northwest and across the northern Plains, bringing rain and some snow.  But all in
all, no major storm systems are expected during the heavy travel days ahead.

KAMIKAZE:  On this date in 1274 A.D., a great invading Mongol armada, led by Kublai Khan was rolling across the islands of Japan when it met a foe it could not conquer:  a typhoon.  The great storm wrecked the fleet's ships and drowned 13,000 men.  Khan would mount an even more impressive invasion in the summer of 1281 and history was repeated as a second typhoon smashed the fleet.  The Japanese termed the storms kamikaze or "divine wind."  Khan abandoned his designs on Japan.

MOTORCYCLE RIDE--DECEMBER 2nd
BENEFITING THE ELDRIDGE CHILDREN'S HOME

Come join us in a fantastic motorcycle ride with a great cause!

It's the 4th Annual Eldridge Children's Home Benefit Ride. The home, located
in Eldridge just off Hwy 78 and State Hwy 13 in Northwest Alabama, has
been in operation since 1948. It houses 30 children in all age groups; they are
educated in public schools, attend local churches and are raised within the
campus in homes. The home accepts no state or federal money and operates
on donations from area churches and individuals.

Motorcycle riders get together for a ride to benefit this home. Riders are able
to fulfill a special "Christmas Wish List" from each child and help operate this
home all year long. Riders are encouraged to bring gift cards from any retail
outlet or give a donation via check, made payable to Eldridge Children's Home.
This home has a 501(c)3 status, so donations are tax deductible.

Weather will not be a factor--just be there for the children.
The first Saturday in December, all roads lead to Eldridge.
