...Decent Weather Ahead...

A MODERATING TREND: We sure have had an interesting winter. (Translation: a cold one with a surprising amount of snow.)

Now we expect better weather. We hope the projections over the next several days will not make anyone angry. Indeed, we should be smiling from ear to ear. Mind you, it is not going to be springlike, but afternoon temperatures will show a milder trend and even shooting for mostly 60 over the weekend. It will be cold again tonight with lows in the middle 20s. It has been below freezing more nights than not this entire winter. Low temperatures this morning were in the mid and upper 20s.

Pesky snow showers have left us, at least for a while. Indeed, we look for mostly sunshine Thursday and Friday. Clouds will increase on Saturday and we may have a few showers late in the day.

OUR BETTER CHANCE OF RAIN: Our chance of showers will increase some on Sunday, but we believe our better chance will be on Monday. Computerized guidance on the amount of rain points to over ½ inch during that time period across Central Alabama.

GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS: They sure have had an interesting winter. Atop Mt. LeConte this morning, the low was zero and they still have 36 inches of snow on the ground. Gatlinburg is expecting a low in the teens tonight and tomorrow night with highs mostly in the 30s. They will have scattered snow showers tonight and Thursday.

DID YOU KNOW...that Yuma, Arizona is known as the sunniest city in the United States? That city on the Arizona/California border gets an average of 4,000 hours of sunshine each year. That is not for me—I prefer looking at clouds. Other cities in the top 5 include Phoenix, Las Vegas and El Paso.

STORM ALERT 2010: Be sure and show up in Moundville Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. for the next edition. You might want to get there early because attendance has been high this year. You will see Ashley, Jason and James presenting some very interesting weather stories about Alabama, but you will also get great information on how to keep your family safe during periods of severe weather and winter snowstorms. The program ends at 8:15, since it is a school night, but toward the end of the program they give away quite a few prizes.

WRAP UP: These few extra notes from around North America...it was 86 yesterday in Riverside and Santa Ana, California and 16 below zero at Aberdeen, South Dakota this morning. That was 5 degrees colder than the coldest in Alaska--that was 11 below at Selawik. Valdez, over on the west side of our biggest state, has 49 inches of snow on the ground. The National Snow Survey this morning showed 54% of the lower 48 with a snow cover compared to 63% about a week or so ago.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: The personality of Little Miss Molly continues to evolve. She has discovered more and more ways to boss me around. She also insists on which way we will go on the walking track the minute we walk out the door. Our long morning walk has to be on the north track where she hopes to see Dino and Bo—her two little boyfriends. Almost every morning we see Dino with his nose pressed against the lower windowpane in his backdoor watching our every move. Sometimes he jumps up and down and barks wanting to get out and play with Molly. Molly has decided she only wants to walk with me because she knows she can boss me around more and have a longer trip. Life goes on. I enjoy it.
