BELIEVE

When you hear the name "Jesus," what comes to your mind?

Do you think of Him as a good man, a teacher of morals...or
as the Savior, Lord and Treasure of your life? What you believe
about Jesus determines how you live your life...from the way
you treat people...to what you treasure most.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.
We'll look at what it means to truly believe...and why it matters.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy 150)
in Hoover. Sunday service times are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

...A Milder Trend...

THERMOMETER BECOMING MORE FRIENDLY: Well, not right away. Another cold front was pushing southward through Alabama this afternoon. A little bit of good news with that is that it is not bringing as much bitter cold air as our previous fronts. Even so, there will be another state-wide freeze tonight with temperatures falling into the upper teens over the north and about 25 to 28 along the Alabama coast. A warmer trend starts tomorrow and becomes more pronounced from Thursday into the weekend. It will not be tank top weather, but at least it will be some of the more pleasant temperatures that we have had so far in January. This January so far has been quite a story with a deep freeze almost every night with some very uncomfortable daytime temperatures. It was cold across the state this morning, but not as bad as recent days. There were teens in the North Alabama valleys, but mostly 20s elsewhere.

NEXT PRECIPITATION: Our friend, the Gulf of Mexico, is getting involved again. By Friday, a low-pressure area will be forming over the NW Gulf and moving to off the Louisiana coast Saturday morning and then inland across Alabama by Saturday night and Sunday morning. Temperatures should be warm enough that we should not have to worry about wintry precipitation. Here in Central Alabama, we could see a few showers after midnight Friday night. The showers should become more widespread Saturday and afternoon temperatures, both Friday and Saturday, will be in the mid 50s. We believe the heavier amount of rain from this entire system will be down south, maybe as much as 2 inches over our extreme southern counties, but over 1 inch in Central Alabama. The rain should taper off by Sunday afternoon. The good news is: we do not see any bitter cold weather following this storm system.

ST. PETERSBURG: The morning edition of the St. Petersburg Times reported that due to the severe cold in Central Florida, a record high demand for power was reached in the Tampa Bay area—the highest ever. The utilities were asking customers to avoid some usage and recommended delaying laundry. It is the first time in 21 years that they issued such a request because they were getting close to suffering rolling blackouts. Both Ft. Lauderdale and Miami have averaged 15 degrees per day colder than average this month. Those two cities have shivered in 30s the last three mornings.

ROAMING: The USA snow survey this morning shows 56% of the lower 48 with a blanket of snow...there is still a deep snow cover over the Midwest, including 20 inches in Omaha and 29 inches in Randolph, Iowa...Minneapolis has received 26 inches of snow so far this season...USA temperature extremes included 82 at Anaheim and San Marcos, California yesterday to 54 below zero this morning at Eagle, Alaska...it was 18 this morning in Tallahassee...on this date back in 1918, it was 7 below zero in Huntsville.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: My Little Miss Molly is like a dose of vitamins. She keeps me hopping and I truly believe she is going to help me live longer. It is so relaxing to be even within 10 feet of her. I have so much I want to accomplish, but I want to live at least as old as Andy Rooney or better yet as long as Noah who was 400 years old when he built the ark. It is very rare for me to get upset or suffer from anxiety, but if I do feel a little tight, I go find Molly and talk to her. I am instantly cured. Life goes on.
