ABC 33/40 E-FORECAST
Afternoon Edition For Sunday January 10, 2010

BELIEVE

When you hear the name "Jesus," what comes to your mind?

Do you think of Him as a good man, a teacher of morals...or
as the Savior, Lord and Treasure of your life? What you believe
about Jesus determines how you live your life...from the way
you treat people...to what you treasure most.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.
We'll look at what it means to truly believe...and why it matters.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy 150)
in Hoover. Sunday service times are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

...Dangerous Cold Continues...

A couple of cautions are still in order on this very cold Sunday afternoon. First, there is still a lot of black ice over parts of eastern Alabama. Black ice occurs when water on roads freezes into an almost invisible sheet of ice on a roadway. Unsuspecting drivers can get into trouble really quickly if they hit one of these patches of ice. Be careful out there. Secondly, a tragic report out of Atlanta, where two teens died and one hospitalized when they fell through ice on a frozen pond. Sheets of ice on frozen ponds are very tempting to kids (and some grownups) during cold snaps like this, but it has just not been cold enough to create ice thick enough to support the weight of a person. Please caution children not to walk out on frozen ponds, lakes and creeks across the area.

ANOTHER HARD FREEZE THIS MORNING: Morning lows included: 10F at Muscle Shoals and Haleyville; 12 at Decatur and Merdianville; 14F at Pinson, Vinemont, Crossville and UAH; 15F at Tuscaloosa and Selma; 16F at Huntsville International; 17F at Birmingham and Calera; 18F at Auburn and Anniston; 19F at Albertville and Fort Payne

ANOTHER HARD FREEZE TONIGHT: Temperatures again tonight will drop to around 15F on average. Check antifreeze levels, wrap pipes, check on pets, family and neighbors. Tonight
will mark the tenth consecutive day with lows at 25F or lower at the Birmingham Airport The record is 11 set during the great 1940 cold wave. We have a shot at breaking that record if the temperature Wednesday morning is as cold as recent indication show.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The intense cold isn't going anywhere fast with lows between 15-21 and highs between 42-51 expected through Wednesday. We may actually see a low above freezing by Friday morning as our next storm system gets organized along te Texas coast. This system could bring rain to Alabama by Friday night and Saturday. Rainfall could be heavy.

EUREKA! A significant magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred near the Northern California coastal town of Eureka Saturday afternoon. The quake broke windows and took out power in the area. I have always thought Eureka had the kind of weather I would love. Morning fog, afternoon sun. Their all time record high is 82F, record low 21F. Highs in summer average around 60F, lows around 50F.

WEATHERBRAINS: WeatherBrains gets back on its regular Monday night recording schedule this week, as Mike Nelson, of Channel 7 in Denver joins the panel to interview Author David Laskin. Subscribe to the show on iTunes, or try it out at www.WeatherBrains.com. Always free and always fun!

ON THIS DATE IN 1949: Snow was reported at San Diego for the only time since 1882. Snow fell on the beaches in parts of the Los Angeles area. Burbank received 4.7 inches. Even Long Beach and Laguna Beach received an inch of snow. Follow my daily weather history tweets on Twitter: www.twitter.com/wxhistorian.
