BELIEVE

When you hear the name "Jesus," what comes to your mind?

Do you think of Him as a good man, a teacher of morals...or
as the Savior, Lord and Treasure of your life? What you believe
about Jesus determines how you live your life...from the way
you treat people...to what you treasure most.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.
We'll look at what it means to truly believe...and why it matters.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy 150)
in Hoover. Sunday service times are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

...Turning Wet...

A WEEKEND SOAKING: It was cold across Alabama again overnight—so, what else is new. The weather news that is new is good because we are pulling out of a lengthy, almost unheard of siege of very cold weather that has lasted all month. Just a few low temperatures from around the state this morning:

11 Oneonta

12 Russellville, Jasper

13 Valley Head

15 Scrougeout, Scottsboro Airport

17 Millport, Hanceville, Moulton

20 Anniston, Winfield, Guntersville

23 Tuscaloosa

24 Birmingham

Now, our attention turns to a marked change in the weather which will eventually bring us a soaking rain over the weekend. It is due to a low-pressure area forming over the NW Gulf of Mexico. By daybreak Saturday, the low should be centered south of the Mississippi/Alabama coast and by nightfall over the SE corner of Alabama. By Sunday morning, the low will be moving into South Carolina.

For Central Alabama, we believe the rain will hold off until about midday Saturday, but it should become widespread Saturday afternoon and Saturday night. The latest information seems to show the rain persisting into Sunday morning, but ending by afternoon. Sunshine returns Monday.

This system has promise of giving Central Alabama over 1.50 inches of rain. Down south over the extreme southern counties, well over 2 inches is possible.

THE OLE THERMOMETER: It should relax and give us some temperatures around 60 Friday afternoon and in the 50s over the weekend. That is so much better than having temperatures below freezing 24 hours a day. Another supply of cooler air will move in on Monday in the wake of the rain, but we do not see any more damaging freezes.

ROAMING: USA extremes included 77 in Southern California yesterday and 13 below zero this morning at Berlin, New Hampshire. In Alaska, the coldest was 47 below at Arctic Village. The wind chill was as low as 61 below in parts of Alaska. The morning snow survey shows a 48% coverage in the lower 48 compared to 62% about a week ago. One of our readers from Helena flying to Pittsburgh yesterday was amazed at how much snow and ice remained. He said many streams and ponds across Alabama and Georgia were clearing frozen over. Snow cover was consistent north of Knoxville all the way to Pittsburgh. This morning, Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina had 17 inches of snow on the ground and Mt. LeConte, in the Great Smoky Mountains, had 18 inches.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Sometimes I get so busy that I feel like I neglect my little 8-pound pal, Miss Molly. She only had the fun of one three-minute ballgame late last night. Those games are a tremendous enjoyment to her and she looks forward to everyone. That is really the only game we play. She often kicks a ball toward me almost every time I walk through the living area to get a cup of coffee. She never stops trying and she looks so disappointed that I do not stop and play. I am going to try to manage my time a little better and give her more attention. Life goes on.
