BELIEVE

When you hear the name "Jesus," what comes to your mind?

Do you think of Him as a good man, a teacher of morals...or
as the Savior, Lord and Treasure of your life? What you believe
about Jesus determines how you live your life...from the way
you treat people...to what you treasure most.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.
We'll look at what it means to truly believe...and why it matters.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy 150)
in Hoover. Sunday service times are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

...A Milder Trend...

THE JANUARY THAW: All through history in the Deep South, farmers and everybody else often wondered when we would get the January thaw. It was a traditional reference, somewhat like September Gale, which early day farmers called a tropical storm or hurricane in the days before hurricane forecasting.

The thaw will become more pronounced starting tomorrow and into the weekend. Afternoon temperatures will be between 52 and 58, which is a huge improvement over January so far. We do expect another freeze tonight with lows in the mid 20s. Even that is a big improvement on lows this morning. Let us check a few of those lows:

11 Jasper, Oneonta, Broomtown

13 Scrougeout

14 Moody, Vigo, Decatur, Gaylesville

16 Roebuck, Sylacauga, Muscle Shoals

19 Birmingham, Pleasant Grove, Centreville

20 Tuscaloosa

22 Anniston, Dothan, Wadley, Evergreen

WET WEATHER ON OUR MENU: Our friend, the Gulf of Mexico, is getting a bit restless, so she plans to develop a low-pressure system over the NW Gulf and send it north eastward. By Saturday morning, the low should be 200 miles south of the Mississippi coast and by nightfall near Dauphin Island. By Sunday morning, the low will have moved across Alabama to near Chattanooga. This will give us good rain amounts. Here in Central Alabama the rain should start during the day Saturday, especially afternoon and continuing at night. We believe now we will need to mention rain on Sunday morning, but it will be ending. We should get about 1 inch of rain from this system, but down south the amounts will be much heavier, including as much as 2 inches in the extreme south. As the low moves up the east coast late in the weekend, we should get some clearing weather Sunday night and Monday and turning colder again, but nowhere near as cold as we just experienced.

ALABAMA NOTES: There is still a little snow on the ground this morning on Mt. Cheaha left over from Thursday! We also have some reports of some snow on the ground at Winfield and Haleyville in shady areas. Low temperatures in Birmingham were below 25 degrees for 12 days in a row, which is an all-time record dating back to the mid 1880s. The previous record was during the big January 1940 cold wave when people were ice skating on the Warrior River at Birmingport.

ROAMING: 51% of the lower 48 still have a blanket of snow this morning. That is down from 62% about a week ago...cold temperatures this morning included 14 below at Whitefield, New Hampshire, 53 below at Eagle, Alaska and a bitter 63 below at Chicken, Alaska...Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains has 21 inches of snow and Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina 17 inches.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: A new kid on the block! Little Miss Molly has already met him and gone bonkers over him. He is a little Maltese named Bo and he is about one-half the size of Molly. We met him for the first time coming back down the track recently and they became instant friends. Thirty seconds later we met Dino coming up the track, so Molly had a double bonanza and she was happy as a lark. Life goes on.
