BELIEVE

When you hear the name "Jesus," what comes to your mind?

Do you think of Him as a good man, a teacher of morals...or
as the Savior, Lord and Treasure of your life? What you believe
about Jesus determines how you live your life...from the way
you treat people...to what you treasure most.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.
We'll look at what it means to truly believe...and why it matters.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy 150)
in Hoover. Sunday service times are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

...The Worst May Be Over...

MEAT LOCKER FRESH: That is what it felt like early this morning across Alabama all the way to the coast as if you had walked into a meat locker at a supermarket. There was a hard freeze all the way to the Gulf beaches and even into parts of North and Central Florida. We have posted a long list of morning lows on the ABC 33/40 Weather BLOG, but here is a sampling:

5 Grantley, Broomtown

6 Hamilton

7 Cottondale, Scrougeout

8 Pinson, Concord/Hueytown, Ashby, Lincoln, McCalla

9 Crossville, Marion, Munford, Vigo, Moody

10 Winfield, Cedar Bluff, Eastaboga, Gaylesville

11 Ft. Payne, Cullman, Coker, Roebuck, Holly Pond

12 Anniston, Jasper, Pleasant Grove, Alabaster, Pelham

It was 14 in Birmingham, Huntsville and Montgomery and a very cold 15 even in Mobile, 18 in Auburn and Dothan. Elsewhere around the region an unusually cold 21 in New Orleans, 29 in Orlando and 36 in Miami Beach.

WILL THIS LAST FOREVER: Of course not, but there are no signs of any tank-top weather anytime soon. It will be below freezing again tonight state wide and also Tuesday night, but by Wednesday the old backyard thermometer will fight its way to about 52. The thermometer will be glad to get out of such hard work and he may register 58 Thursday and Friday. My guess is that people in Alabama will throw a big street party if that happens.

Still some icy spots over East/Central and NE Alabama. That part of the state bore the brunt of the wintry precipitation. There are still a lot of farm ponds that are frozen solid, but not nearly solid enough to go ice skating on. Tremendous caution is recommended.

ROAMING THE WORLD: There seems to be a bit of moderation in the Midwest from the severe cold. For a change, the overnight lows in Iowa were above zero in most areas. In the southern mountains, it was 5 below zero this morning on Mt. Mitchell, North Carolina with 18 inches of snow. On Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains, it was 4 above zero with 20 inches of snow. Coldest temperatures this morning included 17 below at Kremmling, Colorado and 47 at Eagle, Alaska. Good ole Deadhorse reported 30 below with a wind chill of 56 below. Even down in Cuba it was in the low to mid 50s this morning with a brisk north wind. It was a very cold 14 in Tallahassee and Perry, Florida and 26 in Panama City. Larry Mason, who keeps weather records in the Clay/Pinson area, reported as of noon today 225 hours out of the 252 hours this year have been below freezing. Scrougeout, in NE Etowah County, has only had 7 hours above freezing since New Years Day.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Strange little occurrence on our Saturday morning walk and even Little Miss Molly noticed. There were no clouds, but very tiny little snowflakes were floating to the ground. Molly even snapped at one of them. It appears that they were floating ice crystals. That happens sometimes when it has been so cold that the last bit of available moisture is milked out of the air. I sure made up for lost time yesterday. I initiated so many ballgames with Molly that she probably thought it was the World Series. She won them all because she can run 10 times faster than me. Life goes on.
