BELIEVE
When you hear the name "Jesus," what comes to your mind?
Do you think of Him as a good man, a teacher of morals...or
as the Savior, Lord and Treasure of your life? What you believe
about Jesus determines how you live your life...from the way
you treat people...to what you treasure most.
Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.
We'll look at what it means to truly believe...and why it matters.
Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway (Hwy 150)
in Hoover. Sunday service times are 8:05, 9:30 and 10:45 a.m.

...Time To Thaw Out...
A WEEKEND SOAKING: Well, it finally happened. The official Birmingham temperature did not get down to 25 or lower last night. The low was 27. This ended a string of 13 days in a row with temperatures under 25 degrees breaking a long-standing record. The previous record was in 1940. Some places did get colder than 25 overnight. Here is a short list of those:
18 Muscadine
19 Hokes Bluff
21 McCalla, Pinson, Scrougeout
23 Anniston
24 Coker
25 Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Marion
We have been negotiating with the ole thermometer and we can promise some more tolerable days ahead. Look for 56 Saturday, low 50s on Sunday and 60 or better on Monday and Tuesday.
NOW ABOUT THE RAIN: Our expected low-pressure area has already developed over the NW Gulf of Mexico. The projected track brings it to just off the Mississippi coast by Saturday morning, to near Dauphin Island by midday Saturday, into SW Alabama Saturday evening, and to Birmingham by the wee morning hours Sunday. The low then tracks into East Tennessee.
All of this maneuvering translates into a general rain for Central Alabama starting at some point Saturday. We believe that Saturday morning will not have much rain, but by midday and early afternoon, the rain should become widespread and continue like that all night Saturday night. We estimate around 1.50 inches or so for Central Alabama, but much heavier down south.
Morning runs of the weather models, which we lean on sometimes reluctantly, indicate that the rain will not completely end until midday or early afternoon Sunday. However, most of the rain on Sunday morning should be lighter. We project mostly sunshine for Monday and probably on Tuesday.
ALASKA COLD BUILDUP: In a statement this morning, the National Weather Service in Fairbanks, reported that bitter cold has settled in over the Yukon Flats and valleys of the SE Brooks Range in North and NE Alaska. Temperatures in that area this morning were between 50 and 60 below. The coldest temperature was 63 below zero at the Jim River observation site. That is not an official station, but it is reliable. The temperature in Ft. Yukon was 56 below. In good ole Deadhorse, it was 33 below with blowing snow and a wind chill of 68 below. This is not a hint that we will get another cold wave invasion into the Deep South anytime soon, but just a reminder that winter is exactly halfway over as of today.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: A delightful e-mail from Tresa Martin. She had to put her 16-year-old Dachshund, Heidi, to sleep in July 2007. Now she has two precious puppies named Bella and Maggie. From reading her e-mail, Tresa sounded like she was on cloud 9. Happy for her and I always encourage people who lose their pets to go after another one after a time. That is easier said than done. I do not know how I would react if I lost Molly. Molly and Dino met on the track yesterday and had one of the most vigorous play sessions I have ever seen. I thought Molly could run over 40 mph (slight exaggeration), but it seems like little Dino can run as fast as one of those Japanese bullet trains. He runs so fast that his hair is laid back flat. He and Molly will race toward each other and then circumnavigate to avoid a head-on collision. They are a riot to watch. Life goes on.
