Broadway-Style Christmas Musical for the Entire Family

The Church at Ross Station would like to invite you to our
Broadway-style Christmas musical, "Hey Mister, Where's
the Manger?"

The musical will be presented on Saturday and Sunday,
December 19th and 20th. Both performances will be
at 6 p.m. at the theater at Hoover High School.

The Church at Ross Station meets each Sunday at
Bumpus Middle School in the Lake Cyrus community
in Hoover. Bible Study is at 9:15 a.m. followed by
Contemporary Worship at 10:30 a.m. Dress is casual.

...A Cold Rain...

Very dry air over the northern half of Alabama delayed the onset of precipitation this morning. But the mass of rain was slowly spreading northward before noon and will continue to do so this afternoon and overnight. The rain extends all the way back to eastern Texas where you find a low pressure system along the Texas Coast. This low should move into Mississippi overnight and weaken.

FREEZING PRECIPITATION: With the dry air mass in place this morning over Central Alabama, it was feared that evaporative cooling might allow temperatures to briefly drop to near or just below freezing, setting up the possibility of some freezing precipitation. Sleet was also a possibility, but a nose of warm air just above the surface kept the reports isolated. There still is a chance that there could be freezing rain this afternoon over the higher elevations of Northeast Alabama, in parts of Jackson and DeKalb Counties.

SUNDAY AND BEYOND: The rain will end Sunday morning. The airmass left behind will be warmer. Skies should remain mostly cloudy tomorrow, but highs will top out around 60 degrees. It should be dry Sunday night with lows in the 40s. Strong low pressure will be moving into Missouri Monday morning, with increasing southerly winds pulling moisture into Alabama. Highs on Monday will be very nice, with highs around 70. Showers will be possible during the day, but the main rainfall will hold off until late in the day. Rain will be likely Monday night and continue through much of Tuesday. The rain should end by Wednesday. Much colder weather will move in for the second half of the week. Things should be dry through the weekend.

GEMINIDS WATCH: The annual Geminid meteor shower has been intensifying, and researchers say 2009 could be the best year yet. This year's display peaks on Dec. 13th and 14th. The best time to look will be Sunday night, early Monday morning after 10 p.m. One hundred meteors per hour could be observed, emanating from the constellation Gemini.

ON THE DATE IN 1967: The snow began just after midnight. By mid-morning, it was falling heavily. By sundown, 26.8 inches of snow was on the ground at Flagstaff, Arizona, located at elevation 7,000 feet on the Arizona Plateau. Another big snow would begin to fall on the 14th, and in just over 24 hours, it dumped another 15.5 inches on the beleaguered city. More snow began to fall around noon on the 16th, with another 9.5 inches adding to the snow totals. The biggest snowfall of the extended snowstorm began on the 18th and did not let up for nearly two days, as a whopping 29.9 inches fell. When all was said and done, a grand total of 83 inches was on the ground, shattering the old record of 68 inches. The unrelenting snows hit the area hard.
