...Near Average Temperatures...

A WET SUNDAY: There is no dramatic story to tell you about
temperatures across Alabama for the next several days. The highs and
lows should be fairly typical for late November. That will include
some lows at night in the 40s all the way through midweek. It will be
rather cool Sunday, because of persistent clouds and occasional rain.
For the rest of the week, highs should be in low to mid 60s.

We still have some precipitation to deal with. That low-pressure area
developed as expected over the NW Gulf of Mexico, however, it has
turned into a slow-mover, which translated into a late arrival for our
expected rain in Alabama. That delay was good news for Saturday
football fans with all or most of the in state college games being
played under dry conditions.

This afternoon, the heaviest rain was over South Louisiana where
temperatures had hung out in the 50s all day. The rain was increasing
across
Central and South Mississippi and spreading into Alabama.

All of this movement means a few changes in our forecast. We believe
that most of our rain now will be overnight tonight and through much
of Sunday. Originally we had anticipated the rain ending early Sunday.
Even so, the more extensive rain will probably through Sunday morning
into the afternoon, but diminishing late.

HOW MUCH RAIN: Here in Central Alabama, we are thinking a storm total
of ½ inch or slightly more. The rain will vary greatly with the
lighter amounts in the Tennessee Valley and the heavier amounts down
south. Over the extreme south, some areas will get over 1 inch and
most of the south half of the state will get over ½ inch.

THANKSGIVING DAY: It is really too early to do this, but all of the
information we can analyse indicates a cool day with early morning
lows in the 30s with afternoon highs struggling to get above 50. While
we are at it, let us try to estimate weather for the biggest shopping
day of the year next Friday, which so happens to also be the day of
the Alabama/Auburn game. Early morning lows should be near freezing
and afternoon highs of 50 to 55. Please be advised that there can be
changes in that outlook since it is a full week away.

MISCELLANEOUS: It will be interesting to see the final damage toll
from Hurricane Ida, especially in Central American and along the
Atlantic Seaboard. The November edition of the Alabama Baptist
newspaper said that nine members of the First Baptist Church in San
Vicente, El Salvador were lost in the hurricane. There was a lot of
flooding and damage in El Salvador…back to North America, the heaviest
rain so far from the low-pressure area over the NW Gulf, has been well
over 1 inch in the last 24 hours in Austin, Corpus Christi, San
Antonio and Waco. There has also been some record flash flooding
during the past week NW of London. The warmest in the country
yesterday was 86 in Miami, the lowest this morning in the lower 48 was
3 above zero at Kremmling, Colorado and 46 below zero in Bettles,
Alaska. There is 8 inches of snow on the ground there and also at
Barrow. Nome has 15 inches on the ground.

NO TINY WORLD TODAY. I am subbing for Bill Murray who is with his
family at the Alabama/Chattanooga game. One of their sons is an
Alabama cheerleader.
