A MILD NOVEMBER WEEKEND AHEAD: While mornings will remain cool,
afternoons over the weekend will be rather mild for the middle of
November, with highs up in the mid 70s, around ten degrees above
average values for this time of the year. The air will remain very
dry, and the sky will be mostly sunny through Sunday with just a few
passing high cirrus clouds from time to time.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Simply superb for tonight's high school playoff
games. A clear sky, with temperatures around 64 at kickoff, falling
through the 50s during the games. Some stadiums could reach the 40s by
the fourth quarter. In college games, Alabama will be in Starkville
tomorrow night to play Mississippi State. Kick off is at 6:00. Clear
weather, around 68, but in the upper 50s in the 4th quarter. Auburn
will be in Athens to play Georgia Saturday night with a 6:00 p.m. kick
off. Clear weather there also with 65 at kick off and mid 50s by the
4th quarter. UAB is in Memphis for a noon kick off Saturday. Sunny
with 68 at kick off and warming to about 75 during the game. No threat
of rain for any game across Alabama or the Deep South.

OUR NEXT RAIN: It now looks like Monday will stay dry and mild, but we
will bring back a chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday of next
week. The primary dynamics will remain northwest of Alabama, and for
now we are not expecting any strong storms, and rain should be on the
light side, generally 1/2 inch or less. Thursday and Friday look
mostly dry.

BIG ANNIVERSARY: Sunday marks the 20th anniversary of the November 15,
1989 F4 tornado in Huntsville that killed 21 people and injured 463
others. The tornado touched down on a Wednesday afternoon around 4:30
as many people were driving home; this was before Doppler Radar was
operational, and there was no warning when the tornado initially
touched down. The tornado remained on the ground for 16 miles across
Madison County, with the most extensive damage across the southern
part of the city of Huntsville in the vicinity of Memorial Parkway and
Whitesburg Drive. It was red letter day in Alabama weather history.

STORM ALERT XTREME IS TOMORROW! Want to be trained as a storm spotter?
Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event,
Storm Alert Xtreme, is tomorrow at the BJCC during the annual
Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best
SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained
over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of
our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get
enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 2:30. And,
everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the
Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no
need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat.
We had a packed house last year.
