...Nice Week Continues...

Lots of uncertainty in the forecast over the next week with a difficult to predict trough cutting off into one of those bowling ball upper lows over the middle of the nation by early in the week. After a fine weekend, it will be model madness through much of the next week.

BEAUTIFUL THROUGH SUNDAY: High pressure centered over the Southeast will give us plenty of sun this afternoon and Sunday. There will be some high cloudiness streaming well overhead at times, but it will barely dim the sun. Highs today and tomorrow will be in the 70s, with lows dropping to around 40 degrees.

THE TROUGH: A big upper trough is swinging through the western states this morning. By Sunday morning, it is expected to cut off into a deepening upper low over the Four Corners region, where Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico meet. It is expected to move to around Kansas and Oklahoma by Monday and Tuesday, where it will roll around like a loose cannonball for a couple of days. Indications are that it will get bored and lift up into the Dakota and Canada by Wednesday. Another fast moving trough will affect us by the end of the week, with a bigger one around the 24th and an even bigger one around the 29th.

WHAT THIS MEANS: Partly cloudy Monday. Increasing clouds Tuesday with a slight chance of a shower. A continued shower chance on Wednesday. A little sunshine Thursday, then a good chance of rain and storms Friday. Finally, a nice weekend. Having said all that, the forecast is certainly not poured in concrete, so stay tuned.

TROPICS: After our brief flare up with Hurricane Ida, the tropical Atlantic has resumed its slumber. None of the global models predict any tropical cyclone development between now and the official end of the season, November 30th.

LEONIDS: The 2009 Leonid meteor shower will peak early on Tuesday morning, with 20-30 meteors per hour expected over North America. A new moon will help, as long as the clouds cooperate. Parts of Asia could see 200-300 meteors per hour!

FOOTBALL FORECAST: Alabama will be in Starkville tonight to play Mississippi State. Kick off is at 6:00. Expect clear weather, around 68 at the start, but in the upper 50s in the 4th quarter. Auburn will be in Athens to play Georgia tonight for a 6:00 p.m. kick off. Clear weather there also with
the temperature around 65 at kick off and mid 50s by the 4th quarter. UAB is in Memphis, playing right now in fine conditions.

WEATHERBRAINS: This week it was severe weather/wind damage expert Tim Marshall. Next week, Mike Smith, the CEO of Weather Data Services will be in for a chat about how meteorology has been more efficient in saving lives than cancer research and traffic safety. Listen at www.WeatherBrains.com or subscribe at iTunes. It's free!

ON THE DATE IN 1999: The twelfth named storm of the North Atlantic Hurricane Season formed in the Caribbean on this date. Within a few hours, Tropical Storm Lenny was upgraded to a hurricane, with maximum winds of 80 mph. The hurricane was moving eastward and was threatening the island of Jamaica.
