...Another Gloomy Day...

A COLD THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: The clouds hung tough again today. This is not unusual at all in Alabama this time of year. A solid bank of clouds covered a good part of the Southeast this afternoon. Cannot completely rule out a few sprinkles or some scattered light drizzle, when clouds are that predominant.
Naturally, the thick cloud deck held the old thermometer in check. We do not see a great deal of clearing even tomorrow. Finally, we should get partial sunshine Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

ANOTHER COLD FRONT: That will bring some more changes to our weather. By midweek and especially late in the week, the new front should reach West Alabama by Wednesday morning and move through the state. You will notice quite a drop in temperature by Thanksgiving Day. To start the morning, the old thermometer should be in the upper 30s and it will get no higher than 48 to 54 Thanksgiving afternoon. Some parts of North Alabama could stay in the 40s all day. Most people like for it to be cold on Thanksgiving, so that should fit the bill.

SHOP TIL YOU DROP FRIDAY: I do not like the term Black Friday either, but for some reason the Friday after Thanksgiving over the years has evolved where most people get rid of all their money. I really do not understand why people have to be at the mall at the stroke of midnight. Not me—I will be sound asleep. It is going to be an uncomfortable morning Friday morning with fairly brisk NW winds and low temperatures averaging about 33. But some parts of Central Alabama may have upper 20s. The thermometer may have to struggle to reach 50 Friday afternoon. The Alabama/Auburn game will be played in Auburn Friday afternoon. We look for dry weather with temperatures at kick off around 50 or 52 dropping into the 40s by the second half. There will be a nice breeze, so you will need some warm clothing.

ALABAMA RAIN SCORECARD: As of today, this is a list of the surplus rain amounts for the official reporting stations in Alabama:

8.48 inches in Huntsville
4.66 Muscle Shoals
16.79 Birmingham Airport (amazing)
13.28 Anniston Airport
2.49 Montgomery Airport
5.34 Tuscaloosa
0.28 Mobile (the lowest surplus in the state)

ELSEWHERE: 85 in Miami was the warmest in the country yesterday…coldest this morning was 6 above at Big Piney and Pinedale in Western Wyoming and in Yellowstone National Park…in Alaska, it was 36 below at Arctic Village…Barrow had 24 below with a wind chill of 33 below.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: We had to get up at 4:30 this morning, because of a very early medical appointment. Little Miss Molly is always crawling out of bed when we do regardless of the hour. Even though it was way before daybreak, she was immediately active and cheerful and also ringing the little bell to go for a walk. It is the first time I have walked her that early since she was very young…I want to write more about Computer Cat soon. He belongs to Dennis Altizer, our Music Director, and he is quite a character. Come to think of it, so is Dennis. A great guy. Life goes on.
