...A String of Sunny Days...

A REAL CHANCE TO DRY OUT: Considering the current dry period started
this past Sunday, and we are projecting no rain through Monday of next
week, that is an period with 8 consecutive days of dry weather for our
state. The last time we enjoyed this kind of dry spell was back in
late June and early July, when we had no measurable rain from June 16
through July 4. And, this time temperatures will be much more
comfortable. For the rest of the week, we are projecting highs in the
67 to 70 degree range, with lows mostly in the 40s. Looks like the
coldest morning will come at daybreak Friday with upper 30s are
possible with some frost for the colder spots. The blue sky days
combined with the fall colors, which are approaching their peak, will
set the stage for a fantastic autumn week in Alabama.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: Afternoon temperatures should be a little warmer
Saturday and Sunday, with highs up in the low to mid 70s along with a
sunny sky Saturday and Sunday. There is no significant chance of rain
this weekend (for a change). For now, it looks like the next decent
chance of rain will come around Tuesday of next week.

RAIN SCORECARD: We can enjoy this dry period knowing we have a big
rain surplus for the year. Birmingham's rain total for the year is
60.23", giving us a current surplus of 15.08". If we don't get
another drop of rain between now and December 31, we will still have a
surplus of 5.24" for 2009. And, we all know we will have plenty of
rain events before the year is over.

FALL TORNADO SEASON: The southern U.S. is one of the few places in the
world with two distinct severe weather seasons. Our fall tornado
season comes during the month of November and the first half of
December. While we won't have any problems this week, we will be
watching for potential severe weather set-ups during the latter half
of the month.

EXTREMES: Warmest place in the nation yesterday was Rialto, California
with 94; coldest was Anaktuvuk Pass, Alaska with 17 degrees below zero.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to
join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm
Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during
the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by
the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has
trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We
encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply
cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30.
And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to
the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and
no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good
seat. We had a packed house last year.
