...Talking A Little Frost...

A cool airmass has overspread much of the eastern United States this
weekend, giving snow to parts of Pennsylvania and New York, and below
normal temperatures to a wide area. Three inches of snow is expected
overnight tonight in the Gatlinburg area of the Smokies. It will also
give us our coldest readings of the season so far, and the chance for
frost.

BREEZY SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy skies and temperatures struggling to
make it out of the 40s highlight our weather on this Saturday. Thrown
in a north wind at 10-20 mph and it will feel quite blustery this
afternoon. A lake wind advisory has been issued.

FROSTY FORECAST: Skies will clear late this evening across the area.
Overnight lows will drop into the 30s in many locations. A persistent
north wind will limit the frost potential overnight, but protected
valleys could see frost by morning. After a chilly start, Sunday
promises to be a brilliantly sunny day, with highs topping out near 60
degrees. There still will be a decent northerly breeze tomorrow, just
not quite as brisk as today. Look for widespread frost Sunday night
and Monday morning as winds die down and temperatures settle into the
middle 30s on average. A warmup will begin Monday, with daytime
temperatures back in the upper 60s. Look for 70s on Tuesday, which
should be a fine day.

FOOTBALL FORECAST: Similar weather tonight in Tuscaloosa, Auburn and
Oxford for the Tide, Tigers and Blazers. Clearing skies and cool
temperatures falling into the 40s.

BASEBALL WEATHER? Tonight's game two of the ALCS between the Yankees
and Halos will be in danger of postponement with a 90% chance of rain,
strong winds and temperatures in the 40s in New York City.

TROPICS: Still nothing to talk about in the tropical Atlantic.
Dangerous Hurricane Rick in the eastern Pacific is nearing Category
Five intensity off the Mexican coast. It will affect Baja California
and the southeastern Mexican coast around midweek, still as a hurricane.

WEATHERBRAINS: This week's show will feature a fun and informative

THE LONG HOT SUMMER OF 2007: Record highs of 90F were recorded at
Tuscaloosa and Pinson on this date in 2008. It was the latest 90F
reading ever at Pinson. Pinson recorded ninety five 90F days during
the long hot summer of 2007, an all time record.

ON THE DATE IN 2008: Small, but powerful Hurricane King made
landfall near Miami FL. Winds were sustained at 122 mph with gusts to
150 mph in Miami. Reconnaissance during the day indicated that the
hurricane had winds in excess of 100 mph, but because it was so small,
it weaved through the observation network of the Keys and Florida
Straits, and forecasters believed its intensity had either dropped or
been overestimated. It turned out they were wrong. The tornado-like
hurricane caused damage totaling $28 million. King would be the worst
hurricane at Miami since the devastating 1926 hurricane. Follow my
