...Almost Daily Changes...

A WET ALABAMA: Not much dry soil in Alabama today after the weekend
rain wet down practically the entire state.

We could almost call it a state-wide drenching, although there were a
few locations that did not get that much
rain. Many parts of North and Central Alabama received 1 to 2 inches.

All of this recent rain has brought some amazing totals for 2009 so
far. Around midnight Birmingham Airport reached 53.99 inches of rain
for the year so far. This is equal to the average amount for the
entire calendar year. As Bill pointed out last night, we have received
our entire year of rain in only 277 days. Just a few samples of rain
amounts for the last 24 hours:

1.74 Clay/Pinson (Year-to-Date Total: 55.54)
1.85 Bear Creek
2.38 Scrougeout (Year-to-Date Total: 62.38)
2.19 Montgomery
1.93 Tuscaloosa
2.38 Camp Hill

MORE CHANGES AHEAD: That was a real genuine soaker late Sunday and
overnight. We are going to get some more rain as the week goes on. We
will likely see an increase in showers and storms again Tuesday night
then ending by Wednesday afternoon. Next good chance of rain will come
late Friday and Friday night and a few
of those storms could be locally strong.

The atmosphere is saturated, so do not be surprised to see some more
fog forming tonight. Another storm system will develop in the
midsection of the country starting Tuesday. This will pull another
cool front into Alabama by Wednesday morning.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Tropical Storm Grace will become the least known
named storm of the season. Early this afternoon it was centered over
the far NE Atlantic already over colder waters and moving NE rapidly.
Zero threat to the USA or Canada. Sustained winds were 65 mph. A
nervous area of weather was over 900 miles east of the Windward
Islands moving WNW at 15. Gradually becoming stronger and NHC gives it
a chance of becoming a tropical depression in the next 48 hours. After
that, upper winds will start fighting it.

MISCELLANEOUS: SPC thinks there will be a slight risk of severe
thunderstorms Tuesday from Central Texas NE across NW Louisiana and
South Arkansas to NW Mississippi. 97 was the hottest Sunday at Laredo
and McAllen in South Texas. Coldest this morning 12 at Mammoth Lakes,
California and Arctic Village, Alaska.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: My Little Miss Molly had the most
exciting time of her life on two occasions over the weekend. Little
Dino, along with Jo-Jo, the loves of her life, was walking with his
grandpa. They came down into our backyard. Grandpa took the leash off
Dino and he and Molly ran circles around each other until their
tongues were hanging way out. We did not de-leash Molly because she
may have headed for Chattanooga. Next morning, Dino was invited into
our house and he and Molly had another amazing play session for
several minutes. They chased each other everywhere including the back
of the couch which is where Molly keeps a lookout. We died laughing.
Life goes on.
