...More Changes Ahead...

THE ALABAMA SITUATION: It is a continuing story of changeable
weather. We go from showers and thunderstorms to bright blue sky, cool
nights only to return to warmer afternoons and more showers and
thunderstorms. We are gradually approaching the time of year when we
have our secondary severe weather season. For several years in a row,
not long ago, the autumn severe weather season was worse than the
spring season. But, if you go way back as long as there were records,
the spring season of March, April and May is the most violent. Our
autumn season varies from year to year, but generally speaking it is
from November through early December.

BACK TO THE PRESENT: After a utopian weekend, we now go back to some
wet weather. Mind you, we do not need any rain whatsoever. We are now
approaching 59 inches for the year, which is 13 inches more than we
had last year on this date. Our surplus is close to 15 inches. We have
a chance of getting 1 to 2 inches of rain over the next 4 days. We may
see a few showers this evening, but a better chance after midnight.
Tuesday looks interesting as a low-pressure system moves NE from
Mississippi pulling a warm front northward. That should give us lots
of showers, in fact, in may be more of a steady rain at times.
Wednesday looks dry and warmer only to see some more scattered showers
and thunderstorms on Thursday and an even better chance on Friday. A
few of those on Friday could be strong.

TORNADO SCORECARD: So far this month, 27 tornadoes have been reported
around the USA. That number may be reduced after storm surveys. To
show you how the tornado season can be extremely variable, we had 21
confirmed tornadoes in the country last October, but 86 in 2007.
Reported tornadoes for the year so far is 1,207, but for 2008 we had
1,691 confirmed tornadoes. The tornado fatalities so far this year is
22. Last year we had 126.

MISCELLANEOUS: Do not forget that next weekend we go back to Central
Standard Time. Most weather people like that better, because
international weather data is based on the same time the year around
and CST gives us an extra hour to absorb an overwhelming amount of
model date. It still blows my mind how Texas has changed from drought
to too much rain. A Flash Flood Watch was in effect for much of East
Texas today. In the last 24 hours, 1.65 inches at Waco and 1.47 at
Austin is typical. A few sample cold temperatures this morning: zero
at Arctic Village, Alaska; 8 at Walcott, Colorado; and 9 at Crested
Butte. Hottest Sunday was 95 at Thermal, California. Would you believe
that in 1907, in only one week, 313 inches of snow accumulated at
Tamarack, California!

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: The MO (Majority Owner) has given me
another executive order to limit Little Miss Molly to one-half of a
treat at one time. My little pal likes Milk Bone treats. We buy the
smallest size and break them in half. She does not react any
differently if you give her a half or a whole, but she will not let
you forget it when it is time for one. She can never say that I was
not on the ball with her over the weekend. We had numerous walks and
about 5 different play sessions with little Dino, the Yorkie, that
lives a few houses away. They are a riot to watch. Life goes on.
