...Drier Air Slips In This Afternoon...

MORE FAST PACED CHANGES: Weather changes will come fast and furious in
coming days across the Deep South. We begin today with clouds and some
lingering showers and storms. Almost all of those should be into
Georgia by mid-morning, and the sky should become partly sunny this
afternoon as drier air creeps into the state. Expect mostly clear
weather tonight as the dry air stays in place.

TOMORROW: Tomorrow will be noticeably warmer; a little taste of summer
with highs up into the low to mid 80s along with a good supply of
sunshine. There will be enough moisture for a few scattered, mostly
afternoon and evening showers and storms. However, warm air aloft
associated with a strong upper high nosing in from the south should
keep the showers fairly widely scattered, and most communities will be
dry during the day.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Clouds will increase Friday ahead of a strong,
phased upper trough over the Central U.S., and a few showers could
break as early as Friday afternoon. Then, rain and storms are likely
Friday night, meaning another week when you will to take the rain gear
to high football games across Alabama. There could be some thunder and
lightning involved.

The surface front will come to a halt somewhere across Central Alabama
Saturday as it becomes parallel to the upper air flow. The exact place
where the front stops holds the key to our weekend forecast. For now,
we will continue to assume the front will hang up somewhere around
I-59; if this is correct areas from Gadsden-Birmingham-Tucscaloosa
will have occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm. To the
north, across the northern third of the state, much of the day
Saturday should be dry. For Sunday, it appears the best chance of
showers will come over the southern half of the state. Highs over the
weekend will be in the low to mid 70s.

HELLO HENRI: Tropical Storm Henri (pronounced ahn-REE) formed
yesterday in the Atlantic, and is now about 500 miles east of the
Leeward Islands. The storm will drift to the northwest in coming days,
and strong winds aloft near the system should mean that it weakens by
the weekend, and is no threat to land. The rest of the Atlantic basin
is quiet.

NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL: This is the big weekend in Gulf Shores; you
will have to dodge occasional showers and storms Friday through
Sunday, with highs mostly in the low 80s along the immediate coast.
The sun might peek out at times, but no doubt the weather will be
unsettled on the coast this weekend.

BIG CHILL UP NORTH: Amazingly cold air for early October will cross
from Canada down into the northern U.S.
in coming days. In Cutbank, Montana, the forecast high is only 20
degrees, followed by a low of 6 degrees Saturday morning. And, there
should be a nice snow cover with periods of snow likely each day for
the rest of the week.
