...Big Change To Cooler...

A CHANCE TO DRY OUT: Well, the big change is here--the first real
display of autumn. However, more important than that is at least three
more days of sunny, dry weather with lower humidity. It is what the
doctor ordered for drying out swollen streams and flood prone areas.
Most of the main rivers from recent downpours have drained down to
where flooding is no longer significant.

However, the main advantage of this change in weather is to give
people time to recover from flood damage and we all know that there
was an extreme amount of that. Even Atlanta is going to share this
cooler and much drier weather and no region in the country needs that
at this time in the largest city in Georgia.

COOL MORNINGS; GREAT AFTERNOONS: This first invasion of autumn air so
far this year was quickly spreading into Alabama this afternoon. There
was a pronounced drop in humidity and the best way to determine that
is to check the dew point. The dew point was above 70 in South Alabama
this afternoon, but it was as low as 39 over much of Arkansas and into
NW Mississippi. It had dropped into the 40s over NW Alabama. Brisk NW
winds added to the comfort.

You will really feel the benefit of the cooler air as you get up the
next three mornings. Across North/Central Alabama, including the
Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston corridor, we believe the coolest
morning will be Wednesday. We are calling for an average low of 47. We
hope we get a low temperature report from Grantley and other NE
Alabama valley locations over the next few days. I feel certain that
we are going to hear of a low temperature of 42-44 in those areas. We
cannot absolutely guarantee that we will not hear of a 39.

NEXT RAIN: Some more quick changes late in the week. Clouds will
increase Friday with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly
Friday afternoon and Friday night. This will be due to another cool
front approaching from the west and NW. We believe that most of the
showers and storms will be gone by Saturday.

MANILLA: We will use that huge city to introduce global weather. They
are having a catastrophe from days on end of tropical rain. Press
reports today say that at least 140 people have drowned and at least
32 missing. Old man weather can really go through some changes.
Central and South Texas were in a super drought. They had a quick
series of showers and storms, so now the September rain total at
Austin is 6.86 inches more than 4 inches above average for the month.
Another indication of the change in season was the low of 9 above zero
this morning at Anaktuvuk Pass, Alaska. The lower 48 low was 23 in
Stanley, Idaho. Barrow, in North Alaska, now has a snow cover. The
Tropics are quiet.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: There is something about Little Miss
Molly and the witching hour of midnight that coincide. She always
wants to go outside (translation: bathroom) right at midnight. Last
night, as I was walking through the living area, she had assembled six
of her favorite balls right across where I had to walk and she had
grouped three of them between her front paws. We had the longest and
most vicious ballgame ever. On our early morning walk today, I noticed
something black under the big Bradford pear tree in our backyard. I
thought it was a piece of trash. Little Miss Molly knew otherwise. She
became very upset. Suddenly the big black community cat came roaring
out from under the tree and at 40 mph went under a nearby fence and
out of sight. There is never a dull moment with Molly. Life goes on.
