...Humid With Scattered Storms...

FALL OR SUMMER? The autumnal equinox was yesterday at 4:18 p.m. local
time, but our weather will feel more like summer for the rest of this
week with very warm and humid conditions continuing. While there will
be occasional intervals of sunshine, we will also maintain the risk of
scattered showers and thunderstorms each day. The best chance of
showers will come during the afternoon and evening hours, and we
believe the most numerous showers and storms will be over the western
half of the state. While a few heavy downpours are possible,
additional widespread flooding problems are not expected through
Friday. Afternoon temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80s, about
five
degrees above average for mid to late September in Alabama.

WEEKEND FORECAST: A deep upper trough that has been over the nation's
mid-section will open up as a trough, and pass just north of Alabama
on Saturday. This should bring a marked increase in the coverage of
showers and storms as we begin the weekend. We will be on the lookout
for flash flooding problems, and the Storm Prediction Center has
outlooked roughly the northern half of Alabama for the potential for
severe thunderstorms during the day Saturday. Yet another Saturday
when you will need rain gear for the college football games in our
state. But, by Sunday, drier air will creep into the northern half of
the state, and we will mention just the chance of a lingering shower
Sunday, mainly during the morning hours.

A CHANCE TO DRY OUT: A secondary front will pass through Alabama
Monday, which might kick off a shower or two, but following that front
the weather looks excellent for the rest of the week. The middle of
next week will feature sunny days, clear nights, cool mornings, and
low humidity. Just what the doctor ordered for a waterlogged state.

HOW WET? It has rained in Birmingham on 16 of the first 22 days of
September, and we had measurable rain for 9 consecutive days,
September 13-22. The rain total for the month is 9.50″. We do need a
break.

SEPTEMBER SNOW: Additional 12 inches of snow expected in parts of the
Rockies last night. Already, Conifer, Colo., had 11 inches on the
ground last night. At least 3 inches of the white stuff fell in parts
of the foothills west of Denver. Freezing temperatures were expected
this morning as far south as Flagstaff, Arizona.

WEATHER CALL: Weather call is our new system that provides you and
your family a great way of receiving severe weather watches and
warnings. When a severe weather warning includes your location, you
will receive a phone call from Chief Meteorologist James Spann, 24
hours a day. You can also receive the warning by email with a detailed
map of the threat area. You may also use any of the email addresses to
set up the warning to be delivered by SMS text messaging to your cell
phone. Sign up on the web at abc3340.com.

Our Hope In Difficult Times

We all struggle. A family in turmoil, job loss, health issues, a mess we
helped create. We live in difficult times.

Facing tough times is different with Jesus Christ than without Him.
Does that sound too "churchy?" Too easy? Don't be dismayed or misled.

Our Hope In Difficult Times is the current sermon series at Hunter
Street Baptist Church. There is hope. You don't have to struggle alone.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway in
Hoover. Visit http://www.hunterstreet.org or call 205.985.7295.
