...Wet Forecast...
The sure way to make it not rain at a football game is to forecast
rain and then go and purchase $40 rain suits. At least at the Auburn,
Alabama and UAB games yesterday, that was the case. Very little, if
any rain fell at all three locations. Next weekend's games will
feature a continued chance of showers and storms.
LIGHT RAIN INCREASING: Like the Alabama football team yesterday, the
currently highly anticipated wet pattern has been slow to show up, but
it is beginning to control the field. In fact, the pattern that we
expected to develop yesterday was in fact setting up over North
Central Alabama, with overrunning light rain developing now generally
in the US-278 corridor from Hamilton to Gadsden. Heavier showers were
along the Mississippi border.
YOUR FORECAST: This pattern of persistent light rain over North
Central Alabama may well be the pattern for the afternoon. A similar
pattern will be with us for the next several days. The common thread
will be increasing rain chances as a non-tropical low near Houston
meanders through the Gulf States during the week ahead. It looks
like Tuesday may be the wettest day, with numerous showers and storms
and the potential for heavy rain. But rain chances will be around 50%
or higher each day this week through Friday. It looks like rain
chances will back off a bit as we head into the weekend, but since the
airmass never gets cleared out, scattered showers and storms will
still be around, along with fairly warm and humid conditions.
SO LONG FRED: Hurricane Fred made a hasty exit from the tropical
scene, as expected and was downgraded all the way to remnant low late
last night. That's the ultimate degradation for an aspiring tropical
system. Tough going ahead for the remnants and regenerations looks
very unlikely.
TROPICS: The tropical wave over the far eastern Atlantic will have a
long row to hoe if it is going to amount to anything tropically
speaking. Still, there is a chance, and we will monitor it. The Gulf
low is also in a hostile environment and development looks unlikely.
QUICK WEATHERBRAINS NOTE: Rob Lightbown of Crown Weather joins us
Monday night for episode 190. Have a question for the panel? Write us

ON THIS DATE IN 1843: The town of Port Leon, Florida cannot be found
on a modern map of the Sunshine State. On this date, a hurricane
inundated the town with a ten foot storm surge. Almost all of the
buildings in the town were destroyed. One person drowned in the town
and at least a dozen people were killed in surrounding areas. The
townspeople voted unanimously not to rebuild the town. The residents
moved upriver to higher ground and established the town of Newport.

Our Hope In Difficult Times
We all struggle. A family in turmoil, job loss, health issues, a mess we
helped create. We live in difficult times.
Facing tough times is different with Jesus Christ than without Him.
Does that sound too "churchy?" Too easy? Don't be dismayed or misled.
Our Hope In Difficult Times is the current sermon series at Hunter
Street Baptist Church. There is hope. You don't have to struggle alone.
Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway in
Hoover. Visit http://www.hunterstreet.org or call 205.985.7295.
