...Mild Weather Continues...
A SECOND LOOK AT SHOWERS: Our earlier forecast over the last couple
of days pointed toward very few showers this weekend and well into
next week. There have been some changes and there are increasing
indications that every day will not be dry. Even tomorrow we think
there will be a small chance of an afternoon shower or storm with
scattered ones on Sunday and our better chance of a shower or
thunderstorm coming on Monday and Tuesday when there will also be more
cloudiness.
None of this relates to an all-day rain. We estimate that for the
three-day period Sunday through Tuesday parts of Central Alabama
should receive more than ¾ of an inch.
The weather pattern is not very distinct. There are a number of issues
we have to look at.
It was nice and pleasant early today with temperatures in the mid 50s
over parts of North Alabama, but most areas had 60s. This afternoon an
area of showers developed over East Alabama from Montgomery down
toward Dothan and there were actually some thunderstorms forming in
Mobile County. These were not moving very much, but a few isolated
showers were occurring as far north as Hale and Perry Counties.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: A legion of high school games tonight. Most of
those kick off around 7:00 or 7:30. We cannot guarantee that a few
stadiums will not get a shower, mainly in Central Alabama, but most
will stay dry with a temperature around 80 at kick off and lowering
into the 70s. In college football, Rice will play UAB at Legion Field
Saturday afternoon at 3:00. The risk of getting wet is very small with
about 86 at kick off and lowering to about 75 at the end of the game.
Auburn does not kick off until 6:00 p.m. Saturday when they host
Louisiana Tech. Temperature at kick off should be about 82 and 75 at
the end of the game. Jacksonville State will be in Atlanta to play
Georgia Tech with a noon kick off. Should be mostly dry with low to
mid 80s. The outside weather for the Alabama/Virginia Tech game at the
Georgia Dome Saturday night should be mostly dry with temperatures in
the 70s. The game is inside.
BEACH WEATHER: Not the best. Occasional showers and thunderstorms all
the way through next Tuesday. At times, they could be fairly numerous.
High temperatures will be in the mid 80s.
NORTH AMERICAN NOTES: 118 in Death Valley yesterday, 33 this morning
at Leadville, Colorado and 34 at Deering, Alaska. The Central and
South Texas drought continues to be a major story. An exceptional
drought continues in the Waco area with 7 inches rain shortage just in
the last 4 months. The South Texas drought is by
far the worst in the USA. The price of hay is almost double from 2008.
MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: It happened again. Only the third time
since we have owned her did the leash come loose and she was foot
loose and fancy free. But I was lucky. A nice young lady was
approaching us on the walking track, so Molly as always had to stop
and talk to her. I asked the lady to please pick Molly up right away,
because the last time it happened she went all the way around our
complex and stayed loose for at least ½ mile before she ran and jumped
up in my arms. I gave her a small spanking then, but numerous readers
told me that was a bad idea, because next time she might not come back
to me remembering the spanking. Molly was also in a grass-eating mode
this morning. We were in a nice lush grass-covered area and I was
tempted to get down on my all fours and graze along with her. But I
was afraid it would not taste like yummy, yummy turnip greens. Life
goes on.
