...End In Sight?...

One week ago, we were predicting 3-5 inches of rain would fall across
Alabama in the week ahead. By Thursday, not much had happened, as the
main affects of the low pressure system still had not had much impact
in Alabama. That all changed Thursday night as flash flooding struck
several areas. It continued Friday night over western Alabama. Last
night, it was Central and East Alabama. About 80% of Central Alabama
has received 2 or more inches of rain since last weekend. About 25%
of the region has received between 5-10 inches with a small area of 10
inch amounts in northeastern Jefferson County. Not surprisingly, no
part of Alabama is considered to be even abnormally dry on the U.S.
Drought Monitor. That hasn't been the case in quite some time.

ANY END TO THE RAIN? It looks like that we will see a break in our
extended wet period by midweek as our upper flow backs to
northwesterly, allowing drier air to move into the state and pushing
the battle zone to the south. We won't completely clear out, but
showers and storms will become more scattered in the Wednesday and
Thursday time frame. It still will be warm and humid however, with
highs in the 80s and dewpoints in the upper 60s to near 70.

NEXT WEEKEND: By Friday, it appears that rain chances may really go
down, with only isolated storms during the afternoon hours. That same
trend should continue into the weekend with only slight chances of a
storm on Saturday or Sunday.

LONG RANGE: Look for another period of wet weather toward the end of
the month, with a big storm system perhaps bringing a round of severe
weather around October 3rd-4th.

TROPICS: Still is a chance that the remnants of Fred could regenerate
before they reach Florida tomorrow. The chance is very small.
Moderate chance of a disturbance in the Central Atlantic getting its
act together, but the global models don't do much with it.

UPCOMING WEATHERBRAINS GUESTS: We learned on Friday that legendary
severe weather researcher Chuck Doswell will be our guest on the
November 2nd edition of WeatherBrains. Chuck is very outspoken when
it comes to certain issues in meteorology. Other upcoming guests
include Les Lemon, Robert Henson, Eve Gruntfest, Tim Samaras and Gary
England. Follow WeatherBrains on Twitter @weatherbrains.

ON THIS DATE IN 1885: Storm warning flags were flying from the U.S.
Weather Bureau Signal Office at Galveston TX on the morning of the
20th. The winds blew the flag away, which led to confusion as local
residents with telephones called the Weather Bureau office to see why
the warnings had been lowered. The storm moved along the Texas coast
before heading toward its eventual destination: the Florida
peninsula. Highest winds on the Texas coast were gusts to 48 mph at
Indianola TX, a town that would be obliterated by a hurricane the
following year and abandoned.

Our Hope In Difficult Times

We all struggle. A family in turmoil, job loss, health issues, a mess we
helped create. We live in difficult times.

Facing tough times is different with Jesus Christ than without Him.
Does that sound too "churchy?" Too easy? Don't be dismayed or misled.

Our Hope In Difficult Times is the current sermon series at Hunter
Street Baptist Church. There is hope. You don't have to struggle alone.

Join us this Sunday at Hunter Street, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway in
Hoover. Visit http://www.hunterstreet.org or call 205.985.7295.
