...No Big Changes...

OLE THERMOMETER REMAINS FRIENDLY: We are enjoying some very moderate
temperatures, as we get deeper into September. No complaints recently
about it being too hot and nights have been very comfortable. It looks
like that trend will stay with us all the way through the weekend.
Based on latest models and our own analysis, we do not foresee any 90-
degree heat at least through the
middle of next week.

The most complicated part of our forecast is precipitation. We still
have that easterly flow coming in from the South Atlantic and across
South Carolina and Georgia. Little bands of light rain like to form at
times like this and move westward. There could also be a few isolated
thunderstorms thrown in for good measure. They are usually short lived
and we have little or no risk of any type of severe weather.
Night temperatures will be consistently between 60 and 65 and
afternoon highs in the middle 80s. There will be some low clouds at
times, but in general each day will have about a 50/50 mix of clouds
and sun.

Over in East Alabama atop Mt. Cheaha, at 2,407 feet the highest
elevation in Alabama, the low this morning was 61 with a brisk east
wind. A gust to 30 mph was noted early this morning, but early this
afternoon the temperature was only 70.

HUNTSVILLE: We are comfortable now but at this time back in 1925 we
were headed for one of the worst heat waves of all time. Huntsville
had 12 days that September when the temperature reached or exceeded
100. This included 107 on three days and one day with 108. On
September 5 that year, Centreville established the historic all-time
high for the entire state of Alabama of 112.

GLOBAL ROAMING: It was 115 yesterday in Death Valley and also
Bullhead City, Arizona. Cool spots this morning included 32 in Leota,
Michigan and Arctic Village and Mekoryuk, Alaska. Never heard of that
one.

LIGHTNING IS FRIGHTENING: On September 1, 1939, a bolt of lightning
struck a hillside in Box Elder County, Utah among a 850 herd of sheep.
The lightning killed 835 of those and the shepherd was also knocked
unconscious.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For upcoming high school games Thursday and Friday
nights. The chance of a shower during any game is very small and game
time temperatures will be in the lower 80s at kick off, falling into
the 70s.

CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES: They are still creating a major disaster in and
near Los Angeles with some in an area being burned over that has had
no fire in about 50 years. The atmosphere is a little damper today.
The dew point at 2:00 this afternoon was in the 60s.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Tropical Storm Erika has sustained winds of 40 mph
at 2:00 this afternoon and was moving west at 10. The projection is
for general NW movement passing just north of Puerto Rico and the
Dominican Republic and headed toward the Bahamas by Monday morning.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: One of our daily readers does not like
for me to write about the bathroom habits of little doggies. But this
morning I got another big laugh at Little Miss Molly and she looked at
me like her feelings were hurt. In her early years, Molly always went
to the bathroom like a lady. One day about three years ago she saw Jo-
Jo heist his leg and go like a boy. Since that day two-thirds of the
time Molly will walk up to a tree, heist her hind leg and go like a
boy. She has at least five trees that she feels compelled to use each
trip. This morning on the third tree, she tried her best, but her
bladder was completely empty and she could not leave a drop. That is
when I died laughing at her and she got her feelings hurt. Life goes on.
