ALABAMA ONE CALL
KNOW WHAT'S BELOW
CALL 811 BEFORE YOU DIG

Whether planning to do it yourself or hire a professional excavator,
smart digging means calling 811 before each job to find out where
it's safe to dig.

Every digging project requires a call to Alabama One Call--even
small projects like building a fence, planting shrubs and trees or
installing a mailbox.

One free easy call to 811 or 205-252-4444 at least 48 hours
prior to digging:

* Gets utility owned lines marked for free!
* Complies with Alabama Act 94-487.
* Helps prevent undesired consequences and possible service
disruptions to your neighborhood.

...Muggy, Unsettled Weather Continues...

TROPICAL AIR GOING NOWHERE: No major change is expected in our weather
through the weekend. A moisture laden airmass will hang over the
state, meaning a shower or thunderstorm will be possible at just about
any time. On the positive side, there will be a few intervals of
sunshine along the way, and organized severe weather is not expected.
The rain could be heavy at times, however, due to the tropical nature
of the air. A few flash flood warnings could be required over the
weekend, but widespread flooding problems are not expected. No sign of
any serious weather changes early next week.

LOOKING FOR FALL WEATHER: The autumnal equinox is next Tuesday at 4:18
p.m. CDT; that is the day with 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of
darkness, when the sun is directly over the equator. Unfortunately,
the hopes of a shot of cool, dry air next week have faded, and it now
looks like our weather will remain warm and muggy through the entire
week. Showers and storms should become fewer in number during the
latter half of the week.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The chance of any one high school stadium getting
wet tonight is about one in three, so rain gear is in order. The sky
will be mostly cloudy, and temperatures will hover in the upper 70s
during the games. Tomorrow, North Texas is at Alabama (11:30 kickoff
at Bryant-Denny Stadium); the a passing shower or thunderstorm is
likely during the game, with temperatures hovering around 80 at
kickoff, possible reaching the low to mid 80s during the game. Auburn
will host West Virginia tomorrow night (6:45 p.m. kickoff at Jordan-
Hare Stadium); that game will be played under a cloudy sky with the
risk of a few showers. And, UAB is at Troy tomorrow afternoon (1:30
p.m. kickoff); showers or storms are possible during the game with
temperatures in the low 80s at kickoff.

BIG TIME FLOODING EVENT: A cluster of tropical showers and storms
developed over the Birmingham metro late yesterday with very little
movement. There were multiple water rescues, and dozens of reports of
serious flooding across Jefferson and Shelby Counties. The total at
J.B. Elliott's home in Northeast Trussville was 6.63". Our Skywatcher
in Argo reported 5.29" of rain; other totals included 4.71" at Clay,
3.32" at Odenville, and 2.47" at Helena. Buck Creek was brief
overflowing Alabama Highway 261 in Helena, and major flooding reported
in Argo in Northeast Jefferson County
with almost one foot of water into businesses on Main Street.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains quiet, and tropical storm
development is not expected through early next week.

ON THIS DATE IN 1752: The hurricane of 1752 was one of the most
devastating in Charleston's history. Although the number of lives lost
cannot be determined, a contemporary Boston press report, based on a
ship's officer's account, estimated that ninety-five people were
drowned. The maelstrom, which also struck surrounding areas, had many
long-term effects.
