...A Mixed Up Weather Pattern...

Trough. It is a weather word that we have gotten used to hearing this
summer. I am not complaining. Troughs mean more clouds and
precipitation, as well as less really hot summer weather in the Deep
South. The persistent trough over the East will be around for much of
the week ahead, finally lifting out before the weekend.
FOR YOUR WEEKEND: Troughs and showers go together like peanut butter
and jelly. Not only do we have the larger, or longwave trough over the
East, little troughs rippling through the flow will help to focus a
few periods of showers and storms through the weekend. Finally, by
late tomorrow, the trough will muscle a front through the area,
bringing us cooler and drier air.

A NEW WORK WEEK: The coming airmass will look and act a lot like the
one that we experienced earlier this week. This means more 50s in some
lucky spots Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Ahhhh…. Things
will be dry for much of the week ahead. In fact, it is pretty safe to
say that we will be dry into the weekend.

SNEAK PEEK LABOR DAY WEEKEND: The coming airmass will look and act a
lot like the one that we experienced earlier this week. This means
more 50s in some lucky spots Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Ahhhh…. Things will be dry for much of the week ahead. In fact, it is
pretty safe to say that we will be dry into the weekend.

TROPICS: Struggling Hurricane Danny is off the North Carolina coast
this morning. The storm is moving north and is expected to turn
northeast today. We could see some tropical storm force gusts over New
England as the storm passes east of the area. There will be high surf.
Although it is not expected to be as bad as Bill, it did claim the
life of a North Carolina youth on Friday.

ON THIS DATE IN 1995: The 1995 North Atlantic Hurricane Season was one
of the busiest ever. The National Hurricane Center had their hands
full on this date, as they tracked dissipating Tropical Storm Jerry, a
strong tropical wave and 4 named storms (Hurricane Humberto, Hurricane
Iris, Tropical Storm Karen and Tropical Storm Luis.)

ON THIS DATE IN 2000: Record heat continued across the Deep South.
Tuscaloosa recorded 107F, which tied their all-time record high
established during the extremely hot summer of 1952 on July 28th and
29th. Interestingly, the temperature at Tuscaloosa dropped 25 degrees
in ten minutes when a late afternoon thunderstorm moved over the
observation site. The mercury reached 105 degrees at Mobile, setting
an all-time record high for the Port City. The record high also
established a new mark for most 100 degree days in a summer in Mobile,
as it was the 8th day in 2000 that the temperature was 100 or hotter.
