FARMER'S MARKET TIME IN CALHOUN COUNTY!

The Calhoun County Farmers Market will be open this week to
provide local goods for your Memorial holiday enjoyment. Locally
grown produce and plants as well as home made goods and crafts
will be available.

The Calhoun County Farmers Market is open on Wednesdays
and Saturdays at 1702 Noble Street in Anniston. Arrive by 8:00 am
for best selection. The Buckner Group market at Zinn Park will
open later in the summer.

...Showers Off and On...

BREEZY AND MUCH MORE HUMID: In a way we are thankful for the brisk
east and SE wind, because it makes the higher humidity more tolerable.
Moisture continues to flow into Alabama from the east and SE. We can
blame our old friend, the Gulf of Mexico, for everything. On the
weather map today, a low-pressure system both at the surface and aloft
was centered over the SE Gulf of Mexico. A high-pressure area from the
Virginia coast eastward is cooperating with the low to set up brisk
winds across the entire SE with a lot of moist air. The low in the
Gulf is almost exactly on track where the models have predicted it for
the last three days. The future track of the low will be the boss on
how much rain we get in Central Alabama. It still looks like the
southern third of the state will get the heaviest rain. The low as
predicted will move on to the Louisiana coast Saturday and tend to
lose part of its identity over the weekend.

For Central Alabama, this means a risk of occasional showers every day
even into the middle of next week. We think our better chance of
showers will be Sunday and Monday and there could also be a few
thunderstorms thrown in for good measure.

SEVERE WEATHER: We do not see much risk of severe weather at all in
Alabama with this wet weather event. In fact, most of the USA should
be fairly free of that risk for at least the next 2 days.

LIGHTNING IS FRIGHTENING: I guess this is a bit of relatively good
news, but only 28 people were killed by lightning in the calendar year
2008 around the USA. That is the lowest number of fatalities since
records have been kept, however, all 28 were outdoors at the time.
Most of the lightning deaths in the USA occur in June, July and August.

GLOBAL ROAMING: 17 inches of rain at Daytona in the last 3 or 4 days
after going without a drop for the first 10 days of May. They have
received 5.29 inches in the last 24 hours and Jacksonville 6.44
inches. Panama City has only received 0.05 all month, but that is
about to change. All areas along the NW Florida coast, the Alabama
coast and Mississippi coast should get a real drenching over the
weekend. Our QPF Guidance, which means estimated rain totals, points
to 6.50 inches over the next 5 days in places like Pensacola, Mobile,
Biloxi and Laurel. Cold temperatures this morning included 18 in
Stanley, Idaho and 23 at Point Hope, Alaska. Only 1 inch of snow left
at Nome and 17 inches at Whittier. Winter is rapidly approaching in
the Southern Hemisphere. It was 37 this morning at Rio Grande,
Argentina and 66 below zero at Vostok, Antarctica with heavy blowing
snow.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: At some point in the wee morning hours,
the majority owner decided to get up early. She tossed her covers back
and completely covered Little Miss Molly. All I could see was the tip
of her nose. She quickly scrambled out of that and came over and
cuddled as close to me as she could get. She felt like a little
heater. I compared her to one of her little beanbags that you put in
the microwave for a few minutes to keep your feet warm. She stayed
with me about 5 minutes and then decided to explore another part of
the king size bed. Life goes on.
