FARMER'S MARKET TIME IN CALHOUN COUNTY!

The Calhoun County Farmers Market will be open this week to
provide local goods for your Memorial holiday enjoyment. Locally
grown produce and plants as well as home made goods and crafts

The Calhoun County Farmers Market is open on Wednesdays
and Saturdays at 1702 Noble Street in Anniston. Arrive by 8:00 am
for best selection. The Buckner Group market at Zinn Park will
open later in the summer.

...Rain To Continue...

The low pressure system over the Gulf of Mexico flared briefly last
night as it crossed over warm waters of the Loop Current. As it
continued north northwestward overnight, it weakened a bit before
moving inland late this morning near the Alabama/Mississippi border.
Rain and thunderstorms were widespread along the coast, with brisk
easterly winds averaging 15-20 mph and 30 mph gusts. Rain and
thunderstorms will continue to plague coastal sections of the Florida
Panhandle into tonight as they remain in the crosshairs of the inflow
for the low pressure system. This area of heavy rain and storms will
slide westward into the Alabama coastal areas later today. Rain and
storms will be a good bet along the coast through tomorrow. Rain
chances will lessen as we head through the coming week.

CLOSER TO HOME: Moisture has been moving northward through the
morning hours into Central Alabama as the low moves inland. This rain
will continue to increase through the afternoon and will continue into
the overnight. A nice easterly breeze will continue, thanks to the
low, diminishing some tonight. Highs this afternoon will be in the
70s. Low tonight will be in the 70s. Sunday will feature a good
chance of showers and storms as Alabama remains in the favorable
eastern semicircle of the low while it moves through the Mississippi
Delta and toward Arkansas. We will remain in this soupy airmass as we
head into Memorial Day. This means more scattered showers and
storms. It is more of the same for Tuesday, but rain chances will be
lessening each day, returning to more of a normal summertime pattern
by late in the week.

BASEBALL WEATHER: Many times, we have really hot weather for the SEC
Baseball Tournament, and while that is not a problem this year,
dodging scattered showers is going to be today and tomorrow. We will
just have to keep an eye to the radar as we get the tournament
finished. The Regions Park playing surface and Barons groundskeepers
are both excellent and the field can stand up to some decent rains and
still be playable. That's amazing when you have 13 games in five
days. Rain chances will be backing off to more normal levels by
Wednesday as Rickwood Field plays host to the 14th Annual Rickwood
Classic at the treasured shrine to the national pastime in
Birmingham's West End.

VORTEX 2: If you want to put a complete end to severe weather across
the Plains states of the middle United States, all you have to do is
get a bunch of grants and announce the largest severe weather study in
history. It happened in 1994 in the first VORTEX and it is happening
again with VORTEX2. A large ridge of high pressure across the Central
part of the country has put the clamps on severe weather for the time
being. In fact, no significant severe weather is expected during the
week ahead in the target area.

ON THIS DATE IN 2003: Dense fog on I-68 in Garrett County, Maryland
was a principal cause in a massive eighty car chain reaction accident
that killed two people and sent over ninety people to the hospital.
The series of accidents occurred in about a ten minute period at mid-
afternoon. It started in the eastbound lanes of the interstate when
visibilities dropped to less than thirty feet. Two accidents
involving two vehicles and five vehicles caused cars on the westbound
side of the highway to slow down. This triggered a massive seventy
three car pileup in the westbound lanes. The interstate was closed
until 11 a.m. the next morning, making Memorial Day holiday traffic a
nightmare.
