...Rain Will Be Increasing...

A WET 36 HOURS: Quite a variety of weather around Alabama this
afternoon. The cool front pushed all the way to the Gulf Coast and
stalled, but warm air was exerting its authority over the south part
of the state this afternoon. In fact, while it was near 80 in
Evergreen, it was only in the low 40s over the NW corner of the state.
Along that stalled front, a low-pressure area was developing over the
NW Gulf of Mexico. By daybreak Saturday, the low should be over
Central Mississippi and by late Saturday up in Tennessee. This is
going to give us extensive rain starting tonight and especially so
Saturday and Saturday evening. Some of that rain will last after
midnight Saturday night, but ending early Sunday morning. Another
disturbance might bring some more rain to South Alabama on Monday. We
think most of that will be south of the Birmingham area. Tuesday looks
like a model spring day with mostly sunshine and highs in the low to
mid 70s.

THE AMOUNT OF RAIN for Central Alabama could be close to 2 inches for
the next 36 hours. The North American model with had been advertising
2.50 inches for us has backed off to a total of 1.53 inches. So far
today, most of the rain has occurred over the northern third of the
state, mostly from Birmingham northward. Heavier amounts were over the
NW part of the state. Rain will be increasing tonight as the system
gets better organized and rain will be rather extensive on Saturday.
We do not foresee any unusually cold weather for at least the next
week. It is getting that time of year when a major cold air outbreak
will be an exception.

16 YEARS AGO TODAY the Blizzard of 93 was about over as the giant
storm moved toward the NE. Next morning the temperature was 2 above
zero at Birmingham Airport with about 13 inches of snow on the ground.
A lot of information about this great storm has been posted on the ABC
33/40 Weather BLOG.

GOING TO THE BEACH you will find mild weather continuing for the next
several days with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. They will have
a good chance of showers over the weekend, but thinning out greatly by
Tuesday.

WOULD YOU BELIEVE that when a tornado struck Great Bend, Kansas in
November 1915 that a farmstead was totally wiped out killing the two
persons who lived there. Amazingly, five horses became airborne and
were carried a distance of one-quarter mile. All of them were unhurt.

ROAMING AROUND NORTH AMERICA we find temperatures as low as 25 below
at Atqasuk, Alaska. In the lower 48, it was 14 below at Hibbing,
Minnesota. Warmest yesterday was 87 at Plymouth, White Springs and
Orange Springs—all in Florida.

MY TINY CORNER OF THEWORLD: She did it again. Little Miss Molly found
her way into the master bathroom yesterday and attacked the toilet
paper. She did that once when she was real young. I gave her a very
light spanking the first time and she slithered under the bed and
stayed for an hour. Chuck Biddinger later gave her two rolls of toilet
paper for her birthday and she would not touch it. Yesterday she had
shredded so much toilet paper that I could hardly step over it. There
were 3-inch drifts. I could not scold her because I do not know
exactly when she did it. I guess she was trying to have a flashback to
her childhood. Still love her and life goes on.
