...Showers Early In The Week...

A THERMOMETER ACTING LIKE SPRING: Well, the old backyard thermometer
is supposed to be acting like spring. That is why we are forecasting
daily high temperatures well into the 70s all the way through next
Tuesday. That means a warm weekend with lows at night in the 50s. As
warmer air moves into our region, there will be periods of cloudiness,
but also good breaks letting some lengthy periods of sun come through.

OUR NEXT RAIN: It is going to look like showers are imminent at time
at times because we will have intermittent cloudiness, but we believe
our first showers will be widely scattered ones late Sunday. There is
a better chance of some showers and possibly a thunderstorm on Monday.
They should decrease again on Tuesday. We think our best chance of all
during the coming week is next Wednesday and Thursday but more so on
Thursday.

NEXT DROP IN TEMPERATURE: A nice cool front should come sweeping
across the state early Wednesday. It will drop our high temperatures
into the 60s on Wednesday and near 60 on Thursday. Toward the end of
next week, we will have some lows in the low to mid 40s and probably
not getting out of the upper 50s next Friday. That is still much
better than the bitter cold we have experienced several times lately,
including our snow last Saturday night and Sunday. There is a chance
that the cooler air will get deep enough to where it will diminish our
chance of showers Wednesday and Thursday.

WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: Along the Alabama/NW Florida coast, warm and
dry weather Saturday and Sunday with sunshine predominating during the
daytime. High temperatures will be in the mid 70s and lows at night 55
to 60.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME: Another reminder that the changeover comes at
2:00 a.m. Sunday. Of course it simplifies the situation if you set
your clocks one hour ahead before you go to bed. You will gain one
hour of daylight in the afternoon and evening.

ELSEWHERE: Hot, dry winds are blowing across the Southern Plains and
the fire danger is high. Winds were gusting as high as 35 mph this
afternoon. Yesterday the hottest in the country was 94 at Pecos and
Vernon, Texas. Lows this morning included 2 below zero at Presque
Isle, Maine and 18 below at Arctic Village, Alaska. There is 62 inches
of snow on the ground at Nome, Alaska and 56 inches at Valdez. It can
get plenty cold on the big island of Hawaii. Mauna Key has an
elevation of nearly 14,000 feet, the highest point in Hawaii. It was
27 degrees there this morning with a wind chill of 17. Late in 1987,
would you believe that an F4 tornado moved across Yellowstone National
Park uprooting thousands of big trees. It moved right across the
Continental Divide.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Since Little Miss Molly has regained
control of the living area, she is reasserting herself. Her little
doorbell has been lowered again where she can reach it with her paws.
She knocks the fool out of that bell when she wants to go potty. While
she has tried to stay out of the way lately because of the noise in
the den, she is now back to energy spurts where she plays ball by
herself and breaks all kinds of speed limits running through the
house. This morning I walked through to get a Buffalo Rock. By the
time I could turn around, she had raced around and gathered 6 balls
and piled them in the middle of the floor forcing me into a game. I
obeyed her orders. Life goes on.
