ALABAMA ONE CALL
KNOW WHAT'S BELOW
CALL 811 BEFORE YOU DIG

Whether planning to do it yourself or hire a professional excavator,
smart digging means calling 811 before each job to find out where
it's safe to dig.

Every digging project requires a call to Alabama One Call--even
small projects like building a fence, planting shrubs and trees or
installing a mailbox.

One free easy call to 811 or 205-252-4444 at least 48 hours
prior to digging:

* Gets utility owned lines marked for free!
* Complies with Alabama Act 94-487.
* Helps prevent undesired consequences and possible service
disruptions to your neighborhood.

...Headed for the 80s...

WARM AFTERNOON: If we reach our forecast high of 82 degrees today, it
will be the warmest day so far this year, and the warmest day since
October 15, 2008 when the high was also 82. After some early morning
clouds, the sky should become partly sunny today, and the chance of
rain is so small we won't mention it in the forecast.

TO THE NORTHWEST: We note some very cold air moving down into the
Northern Plains this morning; afternoon temperatures yesterday were
only in the single digits across parts of North Dakota and Montana,
and the leading edge of that air will set the stage for strong to
severe storms today across parts of the Midwest. That cold front will
ease into extreme North Alabama on Wednesday, and will bring a risk of
showers to the northern half of the state by Wednesday afternoon. With
the main upper support lifting northward into Canada, and the front
becoming parallel to the upper air winds, it should become nearly
stationary somewhere across North-Central Alabama by tomorrow night.
If anything, the front will drift southward on Thursday. That means
cooler weather for the northern counties of Alabama on Thursday and
Friday; highs will be in the 55 to 60 degree range, and some scattered
light rain is possible, although rain amounts should remain on the
light side. The sky will be mostly cloudy on Thursday and Friday.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: A wave of low pressure moving along our stalled front
will bring a pretty decent rain event to Alabama over the weekend. For
now, it looks like much of the rain will fall Saturday afternoon,
Saturday night, and into Sunday morning. Thunderstorms could be
involved, but at the moment the chance of severe weather looks
relatively low.

NEXT WEEK: Expect a sharp change to colder weather early next week as
a long wave upper trough becomes established over the eastern U.S.;
even some hint at a few snow flakes on model runs for North Alabama
Sunday night and Monday morning. We sure won't mention that for now,
but just be aware that the first few days of next week could be rather
chilly. We should see a moderating trend toward the latter half of the
week, and for now the weather looks mostly dry. Next week is spring
break week for a number of school systems across Alabama. If you are
headed to the beach, we note that the sea water temperature at the
Alabama Gulf coast as of late yesterday afternoon was a cool 63 degrees!
