...Welcome To Daylight Saving Time...

I hate losing that hour of sleep, and we Weather Humans bemoan the
fact that we get the model output an hour closer to forecast deadline
time, but I have to admit that I adore Daylight Saving Time. Note
that it is Daylight Saving Time, and not Daylight Savings Time as I am
naturally prone to call it. But don't forget to make sure that you
have set your clock ahead one hour this morning, or you will be late
for church or whatever appointment you have. Except of course, if
your church has two services, you might end up just being early for
the late service.

FOR YOUR SUNDAY: If we were basing the criteria for a Perfect
Weather Warning solely on the afternoon high temperature, today would
qualify, much like yesterday. Highs today will be in the upper 70s
with a decent southerly wind. But sunshine today will be in short
supply, so we will hold off on issuing a warning for today. Still, I
think you will like the final results in the weather department,
despite the mostly cloudy conditions. On the weather maps, an upper
level disturbance is ejecting out of the Southwest, headed toward the
Plains states. A long, snake stationary front is draped across the
middle part of the country. The upper disturbance will push the front
toward Alabama, but a stronger subtropical ridge will keep the
boundary at bay until at Wednesday. A few showers could break out
this afternoon over mainly Northwest Alabama, but rainfall amounts
will be light and spotty at best..

THE NEW WORK WEEK: Monday and Tuesday will still feature the
influence of the strong southerly flow, which will pump in a good
supply or warm and moist air over the Deep South. Highs will continue
in the 70s and overnight lows will be mild, in the 50s. This is well
above seasonal norms for Alabama in March. There will be small
chances of rain both Monday and Tuesday, but again, amounts will be
light and coverage spotty. By Wednesday, the front will make it into
Central Alabama, accompanied by showers and storms and a trend to
cooler. Rain will continue into the weekend if the front hangs
around, but forecast confidence is low.

ONE YEAR AGO: We prematurely rejoiced as snow fell across much of
Central Alabama, including the Birmingham area. We believed for
awhile that the snowless streak at the Birmingham Airport had been
broken. But it turned out that only a trace of snow fell at the
Airport, and that is not considered to be measurable snow. The
snowless streak was orken last week when three inches of snow fell
officially.

ON THIS DATE IN 1909: Brinkley AR was directly in the path of an F4
tornado during the evening. Eight hundred buildings and homes were
destroyed in the town and several entire families were killed. Forty
nine total fatalities were attributed to the twister along its 15 mile
path. Injuries numbered 600. At least six other major tornadoes
touched down in Arkansas that day, killing an additional eighteen
people.
