...Good Rain Events Start The New Year...

SHOWERS MORE NUMEROUS BY TONIGHT: Alabama is getting off to a good
start with significant rain events over the next few days to start the
New Year. The forecast is rather complicated, because several things
are involved, including warm fronts, cold fronts and even some
upper-level disturbances. We will not go into that, instead let us
explain what we think will happen.

Starting this morning, low clouds and fog and maybe some drizzle will
give way to some scattered showers later. Those should increase late
in the day along with a few thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms
should become more numerous tonight. Those showers will persist into
Sunday morning and then decrease in number. By Monday, a cold front
will have moved through. There will be some scattered showers and
thunderstorms becoming more numerous again Monday night. For Tuesday,
a good chance of some showers and thunderstorms. Wednesday, scattered
showers and thunderstorms, mostly in the morning. We will have mild
temperatures today and Sunday, but turning cooler on Monday and a
recovery in the temperature on Tuesday to a high near 60. Then it will
turn colder again Wednesday and Thursday. Such topsy-turvy weather is
not that unusual in mid-winter, even here in the Deep South.

WEATHER BY THE NUMBERS: It got up to 87 at Alice in South Texas
yesterday afternoon. They have had a number of days with unusually
warm weather in the last couple of weeks. One day it reached 91 at a
lower Rio Grande location. Coldest yesterday morning was 23 below zero
at Grand Forks, North Dakota. Still a lot of bitter cold air over the
Far North country, including Alaska and NW Canada. The low was 56
below zero at Chalkyitsik, Alaska. A number of places reported 5 below
and colder.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I am subbing for Bill Murray this
morning, therefore I can talk about Little Miss Molly again. The MO
(Majority Owner) was released from the hospital yesterday after 10
days and she is doing much better. I wish you could have heard Little
Miss Molly when she walked in the door. Her welcome home bark rattled
the windowpanes. She was jumping up and down with joy. Sounded like
she was tap dancing on the kitchen tile. Life goes on.
