...Lots of Excitement In The Air...

SNOW FANS ARE WIDE AWAKE: There is much excitement in the air and it
is not about college football, recruiting, basketball or even the
Super Bowl. It is weather excitement and I do not believe I have ever
seen it at such a fever pitch. All of this, of course, is due to a
possible snow event Monday. Right off we must say that this is early
Saturday morning and it is too early to try to estimate snow
accumulations if they occur. This is another case (and a typical one
for Alabama) where there will be a tedious balancing act concerning
how soon it gets cold enough to snow and how much moisture is still in
the picture. Latest trends indicate there will be plenty of moisture
with this system.

Much of that will fall as rain Monday and some areas will get over ½
inch of rain. We are calling for a steady cold rain Monday becoming
mixed with or changing to snow at some point Monday afternoon and then
snow continuing Monday night. Tuesday will be a raw day for sure with
occasional snow flurries or snow showers, especially through the
morning. Temperatures will do good to get up to freezing accompanied
by NW winds gusting to 30 mph at times.

WHY ARE WE HAVING ALL THIS EXCITEMENT? For days, all of the
dependable weather models have projected a low-pressure area to form
over the North Gulf of Mexico. At this writing, it has not started to
develop. It is near certain that it will. At some point it should be
centered south of the Mobile/Biloxi area. The track is projected to go
across NW Florida, SE Georgia and into South Carolina later Monday. As
it continues up the east coast, moisture will pull away from Alabama.

ALABAMA ACCUMULATIONS: By this afternoon or this evening, we should
be able to estimate who has the best chance of getting the snow and
some possible accumulations. Today will be exciting to watch
everything unfold. So goes winter in Alabama and life goes on.
