...A Variety of Weather...

TURNING THERMOMETER UPSIDE DOWN: This afternoon, temperatures had
soared into the spring-like 70s over almost all of Alabama, including
some upper 70s in the south. At the same time, Kelley Rodgers was
sending us a report of thunder and lightning with freezing rain over
SE Missouri.
Our big job over the next 24 to 36 hours will be to figure out the tug-
of-war between these two different air masses and how quick the colder
air will cover Alabama. We are sure it will, but timing will determine
the temperature.

The digital bank thermometers and the old Royal Crown Cola thermometer
hanging on the barn will be going the wrong way tomorrow. We believe
the cold front will enter NW Alabama very early. It should be in the
Birmingham area around mid morning and all the way through the state
by Wednesday evening.

We could see a few showers after midnight tonight, but a more
extensive rain will occur during the transition hours Wednesday. Not a
huge rain event, but some places could get around ½ inch. The big
question is—frozen precipitation. While there is a remote chance that
we could get a mix of light snow with the rain in Central Alabama late
in the day. We do not see any problems. There should be no
accumulation. Across extreme North Alabama, rain may become mixed with
snow tomorrow morning and ending or diminishing in the afternoon and,
even there, no accumulation. It should not get cold enough quick
enough to cause any travel problems in our state.

OUR COLDEST TEMPERATURES: We should have a lot of sunshine Thursday,
Friday and Saturday with chilly afternoons and cold nights. Lows
should be in the mid to upper 20s Thursday and Friday mornings.
Saturday morning should be our coldest with a low near 20 with some
teens in the colder valleys. This means that we will go through
another temperature plunge of over 50 degrees between this afternoon
and Saturday morning. We have had several of those this winter.

GLOBAL ROAMING: Most of our roaming will be right here in the good
old USA where a significant ice storm is causing super problems from
North Texas up the Ohio Valley. Numerous trees were coming down under
the heavy load of freezing rain in Oklahoma, Arkansas, across South
Missouri and into Kentucky. Travel was nearly impossible in many
areas. Wyoming, Colorado and Utah got a whole lot of fresh snow. 16
inches of new snow at the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park
and 28 inches at Afton, Wyoming. There is now 102 inches of snow on
the ground at Alta, Utah. Do not remember that in a long, long time.
Over that heavy snow pack it was 36 below zero at Greybull, Wyoming
for the coldest in the USA.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: I am in deep trouble with the majority
owner over my treatment of our Little Miss Molly. I gave her only the
second spanking she has ever received on the walking track, because I
could not get her to come back home. Last night I did not spank her,
but I stomped my feet on the concrete during a midnight walk because
she was running around like crazy. I made up to her. The MO explains
that Little Miss Molly should be totally immune to spanking. I guess I
should agree mainly because of the hurt look in that the tiny eyes of
that little girl. Life goes on and Little Miss Molly sure keeps it
interesting.
