IRON MAN CONFERENCE IS JANUARY 30-31
What does it mean to be a man? Is it how much money you make? The kind
of car you drive? Success in business? Our culture says these things
are important.but have you considered what God's Word has to say?
At the Iron Man Conference, January 30-31 at Hunter Street Baptist
Church, men will discover what it means to be a man--from God's
perspective.
Iron Man is for all men, single or married, high school juniors to
mature adults. It is for men, by men on Friday night (includes dinner)
and Saturday morning (includes breakfast) with teacher Don Whitney
and Hoover High School Football coach Josh Niblett. Be equipped,
challenged and sharpened to be the man God has created you to be.
Deadline to register is January 25. Visit http://www.HunterStreetIronMan.org
to register. Hunter Street Baptist Church, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway
in Hoover, 205.985.7295.

...A Warming Trend Begins...
WARMER DAYS AHEAD: While we begin the day with a hard freeze, a
warming trend will begin this afternoon across Alabama as the upper
air pattern becomes flatter across North America. With a good supply
of sunshine today, we are expecting a high in the mid to upper 40s.
Tomorrow will be another sunny day with a high in the mid to upper
50s; then we have a real chance of reaching the low 60s on Friday as a
nice southerly flow kicks in.
Clouds will also begin to return Friday, and will introduce the chance
of showers statewide Friday night. A few showers could move into West
Alabama by Friday afternoon.
WEEKEND FORECAST: The showers we expect Friday night should taper off
Saturday morning, but the clouds will linger most of the day Saturday.
Temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 40s with the clouds and
morning showers. For now, we will maintain a dry forecast on Sunday
with a high in the 50s, but we have seen some hints from recent
computer model data that some light rain could redevelop on Sunday. We
will keep an eye on model trends and make adjustments in the forecast
as needed in coming days.
VOODOO LAND: Looks like a pretty decent rain event is shaping up for
the middle of next week, about 7 to 8 days from now, followed by a
shot of colder air. Another big precipitation event shows up in the
Feb 2-3 time frame, but as we all know there is very little skill in a
specific forecast beyond seven days, so that could change. And, that
is why we call any forecast or outlook beyond seven days "voodoo
country".
ON THIS DATE IN 1985: Brutally cold air covered the eastern third of
the U.S. Birmingham's low that morning was six degrees below zero.
Jacksonville, Florida recorded its all-time record low with 7 degrees.
Macon, GA had its coldest day ever with 6. It was the coldest
Inauguration day in history as President Reagan is sworn in for a
second term during cold and wind that resulted in wind chill readings
of -30. Many counties in New York were declared disaster areas,
because of heavy snow.
DID YOU KNOW? Snow cover is very efficient at reflecting sunlight
during the day and radiating heat at night, so very cold temperatures
often occur after a snowfall. When Alabama's all time low temperature
of 27 below zero occurred at New Market (north of Huntsville) on
January 30, 1966 there was 12 inches on the ground. Birmingham reached
2 degrees on the morning after the snow had stopped in the Blizzard of
1993.
