ABC 33/40 E-FORECAST
Morning Edition For Saturday January 17, 2009

HOPE

Hope. It's something we all look for. Too often we think hope
is just a wish or a feeling. We've seen what can happen when
we put our hope-our trust-in the wrong place, people or things.

Christian hope is different. It is the confident, joyful expectation
that God is working for my good and his glory.

Do you know someone who needs hope, especially in these tough times?

Join others seeking "Hope" this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist
Church in Hoover. Visit http://www.hunterstreet.org for service
times and directions.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover,
just 3 miles west of the Riverchase Galleria. Phone 205.985.7295.

...Brrrrr!...

Greetings from New Orleans!. Seems I was just here. All work this
time, though, with a retreat, conference and sales blitz. It's cold
here, too. Not as cold as Birmingham, but still chilly.

ANOTHER VERY COLD MORNING: We thought that last night was going to
turn out to be as cold as Thursday night across the state. But cloud
cover through a monkey wrench into the old temperature forecast. The
clouds acted as a blanket, keeping readings warmer than they would
have been. Spots that saw more clearing were colder.

TRICKY FORECAST: Big upper ridge in the western U.S., with the
monster trough over the East. At the surface, we have a high pressure
system near our nation's capital. Our winds will begin to pick up out
of the south this morning, transporting in slightly warmer air. We
will see middle 40s for highs today. Clouds will increase late in the
day and overnight as a strong upper level disturbance takes shape over
the Midwest and dives southeastward.

Moisture levels will jump this afternoon and overnight, and the
approaching system will begin to produce precipitation after midnight
tonight. A tricky forecast tonight as precipitation may begin in the
pre-dawn hours when temperatures are at or below freezing north of
I-20 and a wintry mix is possible. The system will have to be
watched. South of I-20, it should fall as rain, but again, monitor
later forecasts for in the morning. A chill rain will develop during
the day to the south of Birmingham, with some decent rainfall amounts
possible over South Central Alabama. A reinforcing shot of cold air
arrives late Sunday, producing a few snow flurries across the northern
half of the state Sunday
night.

MONDAY/TUESDAY: Monday will be a cold and blustery day. Another
disturbance may bring a chance of more light snow Monday night with a
mix of light rain and snow during the day Tuesday.

MODERATION BEGINS: Things will begin to moderate just a bit by
Wednesday, when we expect a high near 50 degrees. Thursday and Friday
should see us right back up near 60 as a surface high sets up to our
east and a return flow is established from the Gulf of Mexico. Rain
chances will return late Friday night and Saturday, but notice that I
said rain. Cold air will filter in on the back side again, and there
could be some flurries after the cold front passes through on
Saturday. There are signs of a continued cold spell after that with
interesting times between the 26th and 29th as additional wintry
threats could materialize.

ON THIS DATE IN 1857: Famous "Cold Storm: paralyzed areas from North
Carolina to Maine. One to two foot snowfalls were the norm rather
than the exception. Twenty foot drifts were reported in Norfolk VA.
Winds of gale force wrecked ships and caused wind damage.
Temperatures were below zero from Virginia northward. At Cape Henry,
one could walk out 100 yards on the frozen ocean. The Chesapeake Bay
was frozen out to a mile and one-half from shore.
