...Another Cold Night...

A LITTLE WARMER OVER THE WEEKEND: There was a wall-to-wall freeze
across Alabama last night stretching all the way from the Tennessee
border to the Gulf beaches. Even at Mobile temperatures dropped into
the mid 20s. As expected, the colder temperatures were over the
northern part of the state. You can see a comprehensive list of those
on the 33/40 Weather Blog, but we want to give you some samples here.
The coldest we could find from official sources and from our ABC 33/40
Skywatchers was 2 above zero at Hytop and Grantley in NE Alabama. It
was 4 at Valley Head and Mentone. A few other representative lows
across the state:

5 New Market
6 Russell Cave, Holly Pond
7 Ardmore, Haleyville, Scrougout, Vinemont
8 Mt. Cheaha, Moody, Muscle Shoals

In the larger cities, it was 12 at Birmingham Airport, 13 in Anniston,
21 at Montgomery and 26 in Mobile. Radar actually showed a patch of
snow over North Mississippi and extreme NW Alabama this afternoon. The
air is ultra dry, so little or no chance of reaching the ground.

ANOTHER HARD FREEZE TONIGHT: The main difference in the cold weather
tonight and that of last night is that the colder temperatures will
occur earlier and by daybreak they should be slowly rising. We expect
an average low of 13 across Central Alabama. It may be several degrees
colder in the NE Alabama valleys. Finally, the old thermometer will
start returning to its senses Saturday and will give us some mid 40s
during the afternoon. This does not mean that we are going back to an
extended stretch of mild weather. We will have a series of fronts
moving through in the next few days. The good news is that the colder
air that follows the fronts will not be near as cold as last night and
tonight. We are projecting mid and upper 20s for Monday morning and
Tuesday morning.

PRECIPITATION: Yes, there will be some, but we do not see a major
event. Clouds will increase Saturday night and there is a chance of
some rain on Sunday. We cannot totally rule out a few flurries mixed
in with that, but the better chance will be closer to the Georgia
border. Another front will move through the area on Monday and we are
calling for a few snow flurries, but no accumulation. Sunny weather
continues on Tuesday.

GLOBAL ROAMING: The coldest weather in a number of years, not only in
Alabama, but in many areas the last few days. In the Great Smoky
Mountain National Park it was 13 below zero on Mt. LeConte this
morning and 7 below on Newfound Gap. Some of the most amazing low
temperatures came from the Far North and NE specifically in Northern
Maine. It was a bitter 50 below zero at Big Black River in the NW part
of the state. That would be the coldest temperature ever recorded for
all time in the state of Maine, if it is verified. In Chicago, it was
17 below. It was 21 below in West Chicago and 30 below at Aurora,
Illinois. Would you believe that the coldest in Alaska was 11 below at
Kivalina. Amazingly, it was 24 above in Fairbanks, which is 64 degrees
warmer than they had last week.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: You guessed it. My little 9-pound pal,
who I sometimes call Miss Glue because she sticks so close to me, had
me out before daybreak again this morning. Talking about tending to
her business in a hurry, she did it all in 45 seconds and went zooming
back through the door ready for a Milkbone treat. I was glad. A big
incident yesterday afternoon. I was out front when the little Yorkie
came by. I picked him up to cuddle with him some. Little Miss Molly
happened to look out the front door and went berserk. I do not know if
she was jealous of me or wanted to see the Yorkie. Her barks rattled
the windowpanes. When it gets warmer, those two will have more
playtime together. Life goes on.

HOPE

Hope. It's something we all look for. Too often we think hope
is just a wish or a feeling. We've seen what can happen when
we put our hope-our trust-in the wrong place, people or things.

Christian hope is different. It is the confident, joyful expectation
that God is working for my good and his glory.

Do you know someone who needs hope, especially in these tough times?

Join others seeking "Hope" this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist
Church in Hoover. Visit http://www.hunterstreet.org for service
times and directions.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover,
just 3 miles west of the Riverchase Galleria. Phone 205.985.7295.
