ABC 33/40 E-FORECAST
Afternoon Edition For Saturday January 3, 2009

HOPE

Hope. It's something we all look for. Too often we think hope
is just a wish or a feeling. We've seen what can happen when
we put our hope-our trust-in the wrong place, people or things.

Christian hope is different. It is the confident, joyful expectation
that God is working for my good and his glory.

Do you know someone who needs hope, especially in these tough times?

Join others seeking "Hope" this Sunday at Hunter Street Baptist
Church in Hoover. Visit http://www.hunterstreet.org for service
times and directions.

Hunter Street is located at 2600 John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover,
just 3 miles west of the Riverchase Galleria. Phone 205.985.7295.

...Active Weather Through Mid-Week...

TOO WARM FOR JANUARY: We have plenty of weather action in our weather
pot for the next several days. This includes above normal
temperatures, showers and storms, locally heavy rain and even a sharp
turn to colder late in the week.

As this story unfolds, we should get a jump start on rain amounts and
by late Tuesday, we could be as much as 3 inches above average which
is significant.
This afternoon, it was way too warm for early January. In fact, across
Central Alabama, the old thermometer was riding about 20 degrees too
high. A warm front was creeping northward through the state. As it
did, it permitted the dense fog that draped most areas to lift and
even the sun came out in places. However, it was still foggy over the
Tennessee Valley this afternoon.

THE THUNDERSTORM SITUATION: They were already pounding away over
South/Central and SW Alabama this afternoon. It was pouring from near
Mobile northward into South/Central Alabama. A few showers were
developing over the north half of the state. The Storm Prediction
Center issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for SE Louisiana and extreme
Southern Mississippi. It was in effect all this afternoon. They also
outlined a Slight Risk of

severe weather up into SW and South/Central Alabama.
The showers and storms will spread northward as the night goes on and
there could be some locally heavy rain across Central Alabama. Still a
good chance of showers and storms on Sunday. On Monday, we may get a
break from those at midday only to see them increase again at night.
Tuesday will be another day of showers and storms with locally heavy
rain and South Alabama could again be under the threat of some severe
weather.

WHAT WILL END ALL THIS: A cold front will sweep quickly across the
area at some point Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and you will
notice the drop in temperature. There could still be some showers in
progress Wednesday morning, but the high for the day may not get out
of the upper 40s, with NW winds to around 25 mph. Low temperatures by
Thursday morning will drop to near freezing. It is going to be an
active period of weather and, of course, we will watch everything
closely including drinking the midnight coffee, if necessary.

HOW ABOUT 62 BELOW ZERO: That was the temperature this morning at
Chalkyitsik, Alaska. That is extremely dangerous cold. The bitter cold
is more widely based across Alaska and NW Canada than it has been
recently. We do not know when it will decide to go on vacation and
head toward Alabama. No real clear indications of that now. Some other
very cold temperatures included 56 below at Eagle, Alaska and Mayo in
NW Canada and 53 below at
McGrath, Alaska.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: Driving around the area this morning,
some of the ridges were in the clouds, meaning near zero visibility at
times, but I still had a tailgater. Little Miss Molly seems so much
more content now since the majority owner is now home from the
hospital. This simplifies our life greatly and we hope it is
permanent. The MO is feeling much better. Life goes on.
