...Some Decent Rain...

MORE SUNSHINE STARTING TUESDAY: A band of showers more than 40 miles
wide was spreading east and SE across Alabama this afternoon ahead of
still another cold front. Surface winds were strong enough that a Lake
Wind Advisory is posted for most of the state. Gusts were expected to
be over 30 mph at times, but the wind will diminish tonight as colder
and drier air overspreads the state from the NW.

We hope to hear of some total rain amounts this evening between ½ and
1 inch, but most areas will not get that much. The ABC 33/40
Skywatcher for Bear Creek in NE Marion County reported 0.61 by early
this afternoon.

The showers were already ending by midafternoon over the extreme NW
part of the state. Most of the showers will be tapering off in the
Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Gadsden area by late this afternoon and early
this evening.

Look for sunny, breezy and cooler weather over the entire state
Tuesday. Brisk NW winds be between 10 and 20 mph and the humidity will
drop again. Across Central Alabama at daybreak it should be in the mid
30s with highs in the mid 50s. Wednesday morning will be our coldest
morning with upper 20s general and maybe some low to mid 20s in the
colder valleys of North and NE Alabama. Look for a quick warm up
Wednesday getting up to about 60 in the afternoon.

THANKSGIVING DAY: The weather looks very good. A chilly early
morning, but a milder afternoon with temperatures climbing into the
low to mid 60s. There is a chance that some showers could arrive
Thursday night, but the daytime should be dry.

END OF THE WEEK SHOWERS AND STORMS: This looks like our best chance
of getting some beneficial rain. While some of the showers may arrive
later Friday night, it looks like the most substantial ones (along
with some thunderstorms) will be on Friday and continuing Friday
night. Some areas of Alabama should get over 1 inch of rain with this
system.

WEEKEND WEATHER: It looks as if some showers will be persisting on
Saturday, at least into the morning hours. There is a very good chance
that they should be moving out in time for the Alabama/Auburn game in
Tuscaloosa. That is by no means definite, so we will be able to zoom
in on that with more accuracy by midweek.

GLOBAL ROAMING: I love our neighbor to the north although I have
never been to Canada, but I have been close. It is a big country
covering 9,970,610 square miles. That is slightly larger than the USA
mainly because we have Alaska thrown in. Canada holds the monopoly on
arctic air from about November through March. Maybe that is why a big
chunk of the country has a population of only about 1 person per
square mile. Today temperatures are running as much as 25 or 30 below
in the northern part of that country and most of the nation is snow
covered. The bitter cold extends across the North Pole into Northern
Russia where temperatures were as low as 48 below zero today. The
coldest in Alaska was 33 below at Buckland and in the lower 48 1 above
in Yellowstone Park.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD: When Miss Molly and I take a walk now,
we walk mostly on a carpet of leaves. In some ways, the landscape is
prettier now with so many leaves on the ground. I sure made Molly
angry with me yesterday. She was poised in her lookout position on the
back of the couch looking out the back window to protect us from
intruders. I walked by and touched her forehead with my forehead just
to tell her I love her. That was just enough to knock her completely
off the couch. I never heard such a loud groan as she fell, but she
landed on all four feet and did not get hurt. She gave me a mad look—
the only time I have ever seen her look like that. I loved her a lot
and we made up. Life goes on.
