...Dry Weather For Foreseeable Future...
Dense fog advisories were in effect early this morning across much of
the state this morning as the low level airmass was saturated across
the region. The fog layer was very shallow, however, and the sun
broke through quickly. Skies will be partly cloudy this afternoon,
with highs around 70 degrees. Tonight will feature clear, calm and
cool conditions with lows in the lower 40s.
FOR YOUR SUNDAY: Tomorrow promises to be a gorgeous day, with lots of
sunshine and blue skies. Temperatures will start out in the lower 40s
and warm into the lower to middle 70s by afternoon. Sunday night will
feature clear skies and cool temperatures again ahead of a southward
moving cold front.
THE WEEK AHEAD: That cold front will have nothing to work with in the
way of moisture, so all it might be able to scare up is some scattered
clouds. The front will pass through early Monday morning. Behind it,
it will be windy and cooler. The winds should relax by Monday night.
As the winds diminish and the mass of the colder air settles in Monday
night, temperatures will fall into the middle 30s in most spots. Some
of the normally colder locations may see a light freeze. Most areas
will experience frost. Expect beautiful conditions Tuesday.
Wednesday morning will be another cold one with the high close by, and
we could see a repeat performance of frost and potential freezing
conditions. Temperatures will begin to moderate by late in the week
and it will remain dry.
NOTES FROM ALL OVER: Flooding was reported in downtown Charleston,
S.C. overnight. 6.57 inches of rain fell at North Charleston, S.C.
yesterday, which was a record for the date and for October. 5.23
inches fell at the Charleston Airport, also a record. The 3.61
inches that fell at Savannah was also a record. A storm spotter
reported seeing a tornado near Tarboro, Georgia Friday afternoon,
reporting falling debris that damaged the windshield of his car. The
tropics are quiet. The GFS keeps some nervous weather over the
western Caribbean during the next two weeks, but the chances of
tropical cyclone development look prohibitive for now. Record chill
this morning included 39F at Victoria, TX; Winter storm watches are
in effect for Upper Michigan where the blast of cold air will cross
relatively warm lake Superior on Sunday, dumping some 4 to 8 inch lake
effect snows.
WORLD SERIES WEATHER: Weather threatens the third game of the World
Series tonight at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Low pressure
moving up the east coast is spreading rain, storms and winds ahead of
it. The low is supposed to move through late this afternoon and push
a cold front through the Philly area around first pitch time.
Hopefully the rain will move out before game time. If the front is
delayed, strong southerly winds will make the bandbox of a ballpark a
launching pad. Southerly winds at 15 mph would be blowing straight
out to center field. But once the front arrives, winds will shift to
the west, blowing from left field to right field. Fine weather will
prevail for games four and five, and then it's back to the Trop in St.
Pete for games 6 and 7, if necessary. Weather is not a factor in the
dome, unless you count getting wet walking to and from your car.
ON THIS DATE IN 2002: Pacific Hurricane Kenna made landfall on the
west coast of Mexico near the fishing village of San Blas. Kenna
weakened slightly after reaching peak intensity of 165 mph as a
Category 5 storm. Packing winds of 140 mph at landfall, Kenna dealt a
glancing blow to the resort area of Puerto Vallarta. Huge waves
pounded the shore, damaged buildings and homes and brought down trees
and power lines. One person was killed and 54 injured. Kenna was the
third strongest hurricane to strike the Mexican coast since 1949.
